25.01.2022 Nov 2018. These are feature walls that we built in June 2017 at Halcyon Greens, to make a splash. Weve just been back to build a wall for the Rec Centre.

25.01.2022 Getting started on site at the Blackwater Aquatic Centre, where were building the extensive rammed earth walls. Designed by LiquidBlu Architects, the new Aquatic Centre is an eagerly awaited development for the town. As you can see, we do have a fair amount of equipment to shift from job to job! This truck delivered a full container of formwork and equipment, 2 bobcats, bucket mixer and a compressor.

25.01.2022 The new Blackwater Aquatic Centre is having a grand opening with free entry and lots of fun things to do. Its 4 March for those of you in Central Queensland. Some of our "beautiful rammed earth walls" (their description) are featured on the Councils web site promoting the day.

24.01.2022 Walls are still going up in Barcaldine..... The closest wall is still wet.

23.01.2022 We recently did some work for Stockland, creating some colourful entry walls for a new housing estate at Rothwell, near Brisbane. Commercial jobs can be slow to dish out the praise, so it was particularly rewarding to receive an email from the Landscape Architect for the job, Sam Waterson. "We just wanted to say a huge thank you on behalf of CUSP for your effort on the Promenade estate entry walls. Ive attached a few images will look even better in a few months when those plants get up! We have a very happy client." https://www.instagram.com/cusplandscape/

22.01.2022 Nice to see them standing in front of one of our walls!

22.01.2022 Heres a photo of our hardworking crew on site in Barcaldine in Central Qld. They worked for over 3 months to build the walls for a station homestead. The red soil came from the property which means the walls continue the colour of the earth around them. They look great, especially against the deep blue of an outback sky. The homestead is named Wedgetail, and is designed by Sparks Architects. There are some sketches on their website if you would like to see the plan. We particularly liked the dropped wing roofline feature.

21.01.2022 The rammed earth team are in Barcaldine, Central Queensland now. Theyre building the walls for a large homestead on a station there. Theyve started with some small walls, 3m high under a roof frame. As you can see, theres a lot more to go! What is shown in these photos is only a portion of the whole. We expect it to take 3 months to build the rammed earth walls for this property.

21.01.2022 Were feeling a bit chuffed....Rod Mitton of Manteena, the Head Contractor for the Garangula Art Gallery (ie the gallery that features in our header above) just wrote us a great testimonial in regards to our work on the Gallery. In it he says, "Given its prominence, it was crucial that we select the most experienced craftsperson to undertake the work. The Project Team evaluated many Contractors and their work across Australia, and were unanimous in recommending Rammed Earth ...Constructions to undertake the work due to their experience and commitment to quality over many years working in this field......If you are considering rammed earth for your commercial project or home, I can unreservedly recommend John and Rammed Earth Constructions be entrusted to deliver a superior product and service." Theres more, but you can see why were feeling so pleased, Im sure! See more

20.01.2022 Our feature rammed earth wall in the entry patio to the Recreation Centre of Halcyon Greens, Pimpama.

19.01.2022 Maleny is sweltering in a heatwave this weekend, with temperatures way above our normal range. 39C in the shade on our deck, but only 3 steps away, just inside the warmest part of our rammed earth home its 9C cooler, and even less in our back bedroom (lots of rammed earth there)! I realise you have to take my word for it, but these photos were all taken at the same time today (well, as long as it took me to move from one room to the next!) Note: the temp figure is bottom left in the black box thermometers.

19.01.2022 Check out the 40 Terra Award finalists - there are some amazing earth buildings being built around the world! So inspiring. Some of the finalists are in NZ and Australia, including the very clever rammed earth Great Wall of WA cohousing project designed by Luigi Rosselli and built by Murchison Stabilised Earth. http://terra-award.org/hommages/

18.01.2022 Heres some photos from the finished Halcyon Over 50s Village job we did some months ago. The dramatic feature walls look good we think. They appear in the foyer, lounge room and library of the Recreation Centre in these photos.

18.01.2022 Rammed earth walls, two storey, deep reveals for windows and doors

17.01.2022 Our rammed earth feature wall, Halcyon Greens

17.01.2022 Heres a clever idea, used in a house for which we built the rammed earth walls. A two-sided combustion wood heater installed in the rammed earth external wall between the living room and the sun-trap covered patio. Heating from the sun and from the fireplace - brilliant! Here are some photos. You can see more of this lovely new home on our website.

15.01.2022 A close up photo of one of the Chandler project walls, taken by the architect Michael Hogg of Hogg&Lamb. He described it as a travertine look. https://www.instagram.com/p/ByWE5uFFGGS/

14.01.2022 The guys are getting close to completing the walls for the Blackwater Aquatic Centre. The rammed earth walls will form the perimeter of the complex - thats a lot of rammed earth. The colour of the earth with the deep blue of the Central Queensland sky feels like a True Blue Australian colour combination.

12.01.2022 2 experienced construction labourers with EWP licences wanted urgently - immediate start! 2 weeks only, but good wage. Building rammed earth walls with our team of guys. EWP Licence and White Card essential. Ring 0408944805.

11.01.2022 Fancy a seachange? We built the walls for this 4 bedroom family home last year, and its owners have decided to put it on the market. Check out the details at the Real Estate agents website, where there are many more photos. Its a gorgeous house! https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-qld-palmview-1

10.01.2022 Sydney Gets the Dirt! The Sydney Modern now under construction in the heart of Sydneys CBD is soon to bounce to the beat of rammed earthers This new gallery almost doubles the size of the current Art Gallery of NSW. Our two curved, long and high walls will pass through glass panels into garden and outdoor display areas. The sweeping rammed earth walls will be on different levels, following the existing contours as the building steps down from the Domain level towards the h...arbour. We love the idea that our walls will anchor the building to the Sydney sandstone on which it sits. (It is possible that we might be a little biased about this, of course). Internationally renowned and Pritzker-prize winning architects, SANAA, have designed some of the worlds most prestigious museums, including the Louvres museum in Lens, France and the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, USA. Now theyve brought their creative flair to Sydney. Much more about the design and concept of the new gallery is described on the web pages of the Art Gallery of NSW, as is progress of the project. Check out the fly through video by the Art Gallery of NSW on YouTube, too!

09.01.2022 This is the Councils photo of some of the rammed earth walls of the new Blackwater Aquatic Centre. We spent 2 months in Blackwater, building the rammed earth walls for this new Aquatic Centre. It really is very extensive, and the townpeople and visiting workers are all going to enjoy it on the many hot days they get out there in Central Queensland.

09.01.2022 One more pic from Blackwater.

07.01.2022 The guys have just been back at Pimpama, Gold Coast, to build this feature wall for the Halcyon Greens Recreation Centre. This is fresh built, straight off the form.

07.01.2022 One of the species being studied in this centre is echidnas. Echnidas eat termites, so termites need to be readily available. What do termites eat? Timber. So this building needed to be termite-proof.....aha! Rammed earth and steel are a perfect solution. The building is on 3100 ha, funded by a $18.5million bequest. It includes a breeding centre and a permanent release facility.

07.01.2022 Our rammed earth walls in Blackwater have helped win architects Liquid Blu the top honour in the 2018 Qld Public Architecture Award, just announced by the Australian Institute of Architects. The jury said, Providing a small mining community with a cool place of respite and aquatic activities for all ages, the bulwark-like outer layer of rammed earth walls wrap themselves around three elevations, affording refuge from the harsh environment. Couldnt have put it better myself!

06.01.2022 Our latest wall, nice and close to home in Maleny. 5.3m high, 300mm thick.

05.01.2022 We built the massive central wall for this house at the beginning of 2018. The build is nearing completion, but isnt quite there. Architects photos - Hogg&Lamb

03.01.2022 A welcoming space for guests, this little cabin has been fun to build for its owner.

03.01.2022 Lisianthus, Rammed earth. Tick, tick.

03.01.2022 The Worlds largest bark picture (12m x 2.7m!!) has finally found a permanent home in the Noosa Steiner School Hall, right next to our rammed earth wall. Its been sitting in a shed for years. According to the School, the colours of the rammed earth wall complement the tones of the bark picture. The picture will be permanently mounted on a wall of the Hall, and able to be viewed by visitors by pre-arrangement. The huge bark picture of the Olgas and a wise man was created by... 88 Brisbane members of the Art Bark Association of Australia, 29 years ago. The artists used the bark of the Melaleuca tree, in its natural colours of grey, white, brown, red, cream, yellow and orange. It took more than 61,760 hours to complete the work. Please contact the school for more information on 07 5471 0199; or [email protected] with offers of assistance, or information about when the picture will be ready for viewing.

02.01.2022 The 2018 Queensland Public Architecture Award winning Blackwater Aquatic Centre.

02.01.2022 Rammed earth in Barcaldine. Were about 1/3 of the way through building the rammed earth for this project. It looks so right out here in Central Queensland.

02.01.2022 Saw this dramatic rammed earth wall in Ubud, Bali. Its the entrance to a restaurant there. You really feel like you are entering another world when you go through it, like going through a portal.

01.01.2022 The first-ever rammed earth walls in Blackwater are up. The mayor and architects have visited the site, and love the walls. They do look rather nice, if we say it ourselves! Theres approximately 120 tonnes of earth in the walls built so far. Theres just another 480 tonnes to go......
