23.01.2022 Last week Ramos Law was part of a group that settled a case against the MA Department of Education and the Holyoke Public Schools for long standing discriminatory practices against parents who are limited English proficient. The lawsuit will affect how the district provides language access services (both in translation of written documents and oral interpretation) to all limited English families in the district. There are 40k people in Holyoke, 52% are Latino, mostly Puerto R...icans. This case will impact thousands of kids. Our attorney Tere Ramos started working on this case while at the MA Law Reform Institute and was lucky to have some amazing legal partners at Holland and Knight and the Mental Health Legal Advisors Committee. These fellow attorneys put their heart and soul into this case as well and we would not be at this settlement without them. I hope other districts follow the lead.
