24.01.2022 From its earliest form hundreds of years ago, when sailors would use a log line (to determine their vessels speed, to more in-depth diaries recounting details like the weather, the rations used, and the health and morale of the crew, the captains log has always been about structured reflection. As a startup CEO, it is hard to take time to step back, reflect, and learn. But making it a mandatory routine and actually calling it a captains log has imbued the practice with power and meaning. 23.01.2022 To me, business is about innovation and reinventing yourself to predict what your customers need before they know it. Recently, we decided to switch up our menus to focus on fresh organic & sustainably sourced produce. The decision was made in response to the shifting nature of food consumption in Australia. It was also part of a greater vision of mine, which would allow our guests to bring The Grounds home with them through our in-house bakery and catering services. I understand that our business not only needs to respond to the changing needs and wants of our current guests, but adapt to cultural and socioeconomic trends in Australia.
22.01.2022 Im often asked about finances and how I over see or help measure the metrics that matter. This article is a helpful reminder that the bottom line is not the only thing you need to be measuring. If you want your company to be truly financially stable take care to look at customer profile, debt-to-equity, investment trends, and pay attention to the Forest. Read more here buff.ly/2uLv5y8
22.01.2022 Approximately 7,000 medical compounds prescribed by Western doctors are derived from plants. So it would make sense that there exists a more natural way of approaching health. Health and beauty are extremely important to me, and so is the ability to create a healthy routine as a busy entrepreneur. Check out these four healing superfoods that you could incorporate to your meal plan.
22.01.2022 Understanding the psychology behind brands and how humans interact and connect with them unconsciously is so important...I dont think many people in hospitality understand why people buy into things. Its all about creating beauty in everything we do ... thats going to make people emotionally respond to it. Theres a science to it. I was in the Australian yesterday discussing innovation and the science of hospitality success. Read the full article here: http://www.theaustralian.com.au//47d101b5aaa54f015141583b5

21.01.2022 As a brand there has never been a more important time to evaluate how our operations are affecting the planet. Look at Elon Musk, one of my business mentors, he is one of the most successful businessmen in the world and is operating two eco-conscious businesses. With multiple ways to contribute to a cleaner, more environmentally conscious society, weve created our own line of reusable coffee cups made from high-quality glass (dishwasher & microwave safe). As a thank you for joining us on our mission to reduce our eco-footprint, youll receive a free regular T/A coffee with each cup purchased and a further 20c discount on all coffees ordered with a reusable cup.

19.01.2022 It's officially the first day back at work for most of us at The Grounds. With an exciting year ahead, we're straight into team meetings to discuss all the creative projects we have in the works. Still in holiday mode? Motivate yourself with these 3 tips: 1. Give yourself 5 seconds. Mel Robbins has a technique called the 5 Second Rule: If you have an instinct to act on a goal, you must physically move within five seconds or your brain will kill it. 2. Chunk it out. With an...y of your goals, chunk it down into a checklist of actions that need to be completed. Each time you complete one of the smaller goals, you’ll feel that winning feeling of accomplishment. 3. Create affirmations for yourself. Not things like I’m a happy person or I am wealthy, but measurable goals that you will be committed to.
18.01.2022 As The Grounds grows and develops, my passion for sharing knowledge has too. Creating a space that feels accessible to everyone has always been important to me, especially when it comes to coffee, and I understand how overwhelming coffee can be to some. Weve always sought to change this, by using storytelling rather than cold hard facts to describe our single origins, and when it comes to choosing a coffee, the guest can be an active participant in the construction of their ...coffee. Which allows them to understand the different components of each drink. Essentially breaking down the barrier between guest and barista. You can now learn more with us by attending our Coffee Tasting Masterclass. No experience necessary and hosted at The Grounds of The City, our coffee experts will lead a small group through a variety of curated offerings, giving insight into espresso and drip brewing and the effects it has over coffee. 17.01.2022 What are your most important goals in life? What habits fuel those goals? What if you were able to get 1% better at each of those cornerstone habits every day? How would that change your life? Watch for more
16.01.2022 At The Grounds, we try to pay as much attention to the details on the outside as the design on the inside. From pathways and entrances to secret nooks and alcoves, my team and I firmly believe the journey to a space is often as important as the space itself. Youll find neon signs above arches, quiet corners, rooftop herb gardens, and of course our beautiful Arbour which changes with the seasons. In this video The Grounds of Alexandria, Horticulturalist, Erin, talks through working through whats blooming in the garden right now.
15.01.2022 Since I was little, I have known my passion was to build and create places and spaces. My father always told me to think big and thank god I had him. He was not only the greatest father but a huge visionary and mentor. One of my big goals is to create a space that is so amazing and beautiful it not only changes design and beauty In Australia but becomes one of Australias must see destinations. The picture above will give you a 10% insight to what I have been working on over the last couple of years. Were just at the beginning of something truly inspiring for my people, family and our customers to enjoy.
15.01.2022 Small things if not corrected become big things, always. Where is your destination? When are you going to get there? Are you currently off-course? How long have you been off-course? How would you know if you are on the right course? How can you minimize the turbulence and other conditions distracting your path? Here are five things you need to be paying attention to if you want to be successful
15.01.2022 My family have always played a huge role in the development of The Grounds. My father was an amazing entrepreneur, inspiring me to push creative boundaries and disrupt the industry with my ideas. My son is no different! Xavier is a constant creative inspiration, allowing me to get into the mind of a child and build areas like the animal farm, the kids play area and this years Halloween event. This year we will be holding a free event in the garden with interactive installations and spooky characters running a muck. There are prizes to be won as well! Entry is free, just register through the link https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/the-grounds-spooky-garden-h
15.01.2022 It can be difficult to concentrate, especially when you are running multiple venues (and planning new ones!). I rely on simple tools and techniques to keep my day in order and my mind focused. Check out Naomi Simsons recent article on Overcoming Procrastination if you are struggling

13.01.2022 Great read! Do you struggle to retain information from the books you read? I read ALOT and have a system of writing notes and summaries. I store these in my google drive to look over later. I find writing notes helps me to make sense of a lot of information and take from it whats relevant to me. Check out this great system

13.01.2022 The quality of your life is determined by the questions you ask yourself daily. I ask myself questions every morning and evening to ensure Im on track and that my goals are constantly top of mind. I have my key business questions, for example, printed and attached to my computer monitor at my desk. Honoured to be featured on MiGoals today. Read the full interview here: https://lnkd.in/gKhGVQF
12.01.2022 Are you setting yourself up for success or failure? To create and maintain momentum that will drive you to follow through with achieving your goals, Tony Robbins teaches that you need to get S.M.A.R.T. Which means Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and anchored within a Time Frame. This level of clarity puts power behind your goals and ensures you can measure your progress more often and take new actions. Chunk down your goals and prioritise them, commit to an action plan and track, measure & celebrate small wins.
11.01.2022 When I set out to create The Grounds I knew I wanted to be different, to constantly be ahead of the game. I knew that listening to our customers and responding to their needs would be one of our most important values. So, we are set to change the game again with the introduction of a new menu roll-out, to smash the perception that dining-out means breaking a diet, or that clean, healthy food lacks flavour and beauty. Beginning with The Cafe menu and soon to filter throughout both our venues, the new menus will offer extensive gluten and dairy free options, ethically and locally sourced produce, and highly nutritious and healthy ingredients. Of course, each dish will be beautifully plated to create fresh, wholesome, beautiful and delicious meals. The catering menu has also been updated with more fresh and healthy options.
10.01.2022 Knowledge is power. In this day and age, you cant afford to sit back and allow others to do all the work. As a leader, its important that you are always moving forward and constantly educating yourself. Richard Branson is one of my favourite entrepreneurs, in this TED talk, he discusses his love of learning, his absurd lifestyle and the things he has learnt along the way. Check it out and let me know what you thought. https://buff.ly/2x9hPl3
09.01.2022 Im a big fan of Seth Godin and his approach to Marketing. If you have some free time check out this TED talk on How to get your ideas to spread. https://buff.ly/2w6RDuw
09.01.2022 Ive talked a lot about vision on here, and how important it is to have a clear mental image of what you want your business to be. A vision allows you to keep focus, and stops from you from heading in the wrong direction. But, what if you decide to move away from your vision? As a business owner I have made mistakes. A recent one, was the creation of the Soda Barn. With my brain a constant whirlwind of ideas I lost track of my purpose and built something that sat outside my v...ision. I want to stress, it is essential that you are clear about your Why? What are you living to achieve that will motivate you when you wake up in the morning. The Soda Barn wasnt it, it didnt work and it didnt add value. Since then we have re introduced the Garden Bar. A healthy and clean eating focused menu with smoothies, juice and super bowls that sits in line with our new approach to healthy and fresh produce driven menus. Have you made a mistake in your business before? What did you learn? See more
08.01.2022 We either build good habits that support us as we move toward our goals or bad ones that undermine our ability to achieve and succeed. Bad habits can get in the way of our purpose and vision, and railroad our success. Are any of your habits holding you back? Read more

07.01.2022 A lesson Ive learnt is to not fall in love with your product but instead with your customer. Your business must always be adaptable so you can continue to evolve. I recently spoke to Kochies Business Builders about business success and whats in store for The Grounds. Check it out here https://buff.ly/2yoXFaJ
07.01.2022 So good having dine-in back @thegrounds! @chefpaulmcgrath always producing the goods with these new breakfast items. #thegrounds @ The Grounds of Alexandria
03.01.2022 Failure is a part of the game, but giving up is not. When you make a mistake or change your career path are you jotting down or mentally noting the things you have learnt?
03.01.2022 In September Ill be speaking at the Urbanity 17 Conference in Brisbane alongside some of Australia (and the worlds) most talented urban development professionals. In the lead up to the event, I spoke with The Urban Developer about my creative vision for The Grounds and whats next for the brand. Tickets are available here: bit.ly/urbanity-conference
02.01.2022 The world is shifting and were finally understanding the extreme results of how our body responds to what you feed it and the way you treat it. Our bodies are so finely tuned and we tend to take that for granted. Working with one of Australias best chefs @ChefPaulMcGrath, weve completed in-depth research as to how to make our menu items good for you and still taste great. Im really proud of what weve done and excited to be looking after the welfare of our guests who care about what they eat. Stay tuned as I introduce the new menu concept over the next few weeks.
01.01.2022 They say When it rains, it pours and that was certainly the case this Easter. After an egg-citing weekend full of egg hunting and egg cracking, despite my best efforts; the weekend did not go to plan. Id like to personally apologise to the parents and children who attended our Easter Egg hunt, and did not take any chocolate home with them. Your happiness and memories were my priority this weekend, and Im devastated that I could not deliver. I take full responsibility for... the way our Saturday event panned out and my team and I are now working on developing processes that will ensure the smooth and safe running of future large scale events. We take mistakes like this seriously and will be endeavouring to right our wrong. Thank you to my team for putting in the effort to pull this weekend together, despite the many hiccups we had. Your hard work does not go unnoticed.
01.01.2022 Some people dont like change, but you need to embrace it if the alternative is disaster, Elon Musk
