24.01.2022 I did not know a horse could do that... Written by Alissa Kelly I did not know a horse could bring people into your life that end up meaning the most to you. ... I did not know a horse could make the hardest days of your life bearable. I did not know a horse could teach you to put others first. I did not know a horse could remind you time and time again that your gut is always right. I did not know a horse could break your heart. I did not know a horse could pick you up when you have fallen a part. I did not know a horse could teach you to dream again, after you thought it was not possible. I did not know a horse could make you pray. I did not know a horse could bring you closer to Jesus. I did not know a horse could teach responsibility, work ethic and dedication. I did not know a horse could make you believe in something when no one else does. I did not know a horse could make you learn to forgive and forget. I did not know a horse could humble you faster than you can say humble. I did not know a horse could make you a winner. I did not know a horse could teach you how to lose gracefully. I did not know a horse could install patience in you. I did not know a horse could make you listen better. I did not know a horse could give you their heart. I did not know a horse could change your life. I did not know a horse could do all these things, but now I know.

23.01.2022 Group lessons are back from Sunday It has certainly been a quieter Ranchlands during this period, but we have been very thankful to have been able to provide One on One lessons during this time. Those who were able to continue lessons, thank you, we are sure you have felt the benefit in having private lessons. For those who have been absent during this time, we look forward to seeing your smiling faces once more! We are still held by some restrictions, so please... adhere to instructions on when class times start and finish to allow for class change overs. Please remember to wash hands on arrival and wear gloves. The horses and ponies will certainly look forward to their never ending pats, cuddles and carrot supply again!!! Ohhhh what shall we do in our first group lessons....?????? Any ideas???? Requests......? See more

21.01.2022 You cannot get COVID 19 from Ink kisses xx Yipppeeeee Perhaps now is the time to book that lesson you never had time for due to other sporting commitments, because guess what we are open, and lessons are on as normal! The joy of horse riding is that you are always socially distanced from humans whilst riding, just you and your trusty stead. Another bonus of course is that horse riding is OUTSIDE, good clean fresh air.... Of course, we are taking extra precautions. In this current climate, we wish to ensure that both clients and staff are protected as far as possible from the Covid-19 Virus and they can continue to ride and work safely at Ranchlands. To this extent, we are implementing the following rules/procedures in order to keep everyone as safe as possible. 1: Limited contact in the Stable Yard New policy for change over of lesson groups to minimise close contact in the yard. Stable hands will advise. 2: Hand washing facilities in Stable Yard and Toilets 3: Wear gloves we have them available in the shop for purchase $10 or in for loan in Stable Yard 4: Reins and saddle areas will be wiped down after each rider 5: Instructors will all wear gloves 6: Please adhere to common sense and do not attend your lesson if sick 7: There is plenty of room around the arena for spectators to practice social distancing #ranchlandsequestriancentre #townsvillehorseriding #iloveponies #supportlocaltownsville #northqueensland #townsvilleshines #equineassistedtherapy #townsvilleequineassistedtherapy #ilovehorses #horsecrazy #horseriders #ponypower #equinetherapy #ponytime #equineassistedlearning #equinepassion #equinesofinstagram #goneriding #ridinghorse #ridingschool #ridingbuddies #ponykisses #washhands #socialdistancing See more

19.01.2022 Open for Business! We are following strict covid19 regulations here at Ranchlands. This means we have moved to One on One lessons. Many of our riders would not have had private lessons since they were beginners. The benefits will speak for themselves!!! All riders who partook in private lessons last week were raving about their lesson, how much they learnt, the concentration involved and how tired they were after!!!! ... The instructors are loving working on each individual rider, your position, technique, transitions, pole work, jumping..... There is always a positive in every situation Did you have a One on One last week? 19.01.2022 To Ranchlands current and prospective new riders Great News! Horse riding activities fully comply with Social Distancing measures introduced by the government, while getting out and keeping active, is a positive move for both physical and mental well-being, which during these tough times is desperately needed. So, at this stage we are staying open - new guidelines limit us to 10 people in the one area, to help us here we are asking that people DO NOT BRING SPECTATORS, F...RIENDS ETC to lessons. Parents are of course able to watch, there is plenty of room around both arenas to physically social distance. A new policy in place means there are breaks between classes, so one group can leave before the next group arrives, which also give us time to wipe down the saddlery etc. Please do not arrive early for your lesson. We will text each rider with the new starting times of lessons. Another alternative for Private classes, we could do some morning times, especially now the weather is cooling - if this suits you, please advise Jenny. If you are sick, please stay home. Thank you for your support during this time, stay safe. Any questions please call 0400345727 Jenny. #ranchlandsequestriancentre #townsvillehorseriding #iloveponies #supportlocaltownsville #northqueensland #townsvilleshines #equineassistedtherapy #townsvilleequineassistedtherapy #ilovehorses #horsecrazy #horseriders #ponypower #equinetherapy #ponytime #equineassistedlearning #equinepassion #equinesofinstagram #goneriding #ridinghorse #ridingschool #ridingbuddies See more

19.01.2022 We have so much to be grateful for. Today is a day for reflection and remembrance. A day to also remember the sacrifice and bravery of the horse during war. The War Horse. Such faith in his rider, what a bond they must have had. Watching the sun rise with the Last Post and Kookaburras chatting in the trees this morning and then giving our horses a carrot or two - thank you. ... 18.01.2022 Meet the Herd ~ Rosie ~ Colour / Sex - Chesnut Mare ~ Breed - Quarter Horse... ~ Age - 28yrs (roughly?) ~ Height - 14.2hh Our gorgeous old girl Rosie. What an absolute legend she is. She is certainly a slowing down these days and you will only find her helping out a few of our little beginners in 1/2 lessons a few times a week. But boy does she enjoy her job and she is great at it too!! Back in the day, Rosie could be ridden by all levels of riders, she was (and still is) nice and forward off the leg and a very pleasant ride. Easy to pop into canter and very obliging to all that the rider asks. Well sometimes they didn't ask her to nibble on the grass, she is quite fond of a picnic ride........ Rosie has seen it all here over the last 10 years at Ranchlands, been dressed up, whizzed around gymkhanas, popped over showjumping courses, pranced around the odd dressage competition all without a bat of her eye! She has been a most valued Riding for the Disabled Pony, so calm and trusting. The perfect darling of a school pony. Ok, well, she is not too fond of her girth being done up, a little pat and carrot, does make that bit better though..... You can find Rosie hanging out with Maggie in the herd - two old birds together. Imagine what they talk about!! Thank you Rosie, retirement is approaching old girl and you well and truly deserve it! Have any photos or stories you would like to share of Rosie?? * * * * * #townsville #ranchlandsequestriancentre #supportlocaltownsville #horseriding #horseridingschool #iloveponies #townsvilleshines #ilovehorses #horseridinglesson #horse #horsecrazy #townsvillehorseriding #pony #horseridingbuddies #equestrianlifestyle #learntohorseride #horselove #horsepassion #liveyourdream #chestnutmare #perfectschoolpony #oldpony #thankyourosie #bestponyever #meettheherd #loveourhorses #bestjobever #thankful

17.01.2022 The school holidays is a busy and fun time at Ranchlands Needless to say - a bit tardy on this post having a little throw back to the Own a Human day held during the hols This is for those young riders who are a little more experienced, ready to challenge themselves with what it actually takes to own a horse for a day! ... The stall clean up, tack cleaning, feeding, grooming, bathing, plaiting and fancy stenciling too!!! Then the riding.....flat, jumping, bareback, games and learning the all important emergency dismount!!! Again the smiles tell the story. See more
17.01.2022 Getting in the saddle as an adult..... Thinking of taking up horse riding lessons for the first time? Had that dream as a child to ride ponies, but was unable too. Maybe you rode as a child but had to give up? The benefits of starting this journey as an adult are endless..... We understand that you no longer bounce so well, that self preservation is so much higher, reaction times are slighter slower, balance may be a little wobbly....but these are all things that will fade, l...et us introduce you. Love of Horses - SO important. You really should want to bury your nose in their mane and give it a big sniff! The want to be near, stroke, groom and love should be high. Mental Well Being - We live in a busy stressful world, riding and just being around horses can take you away from these thoughts and obligations for a while. Whilst riding, it is hard to think of anything except being in that moment. Physical Reasons - Lets face it, as we get older our bodies start to loose muscle and flexibility. Finding time to workout can be tricky and boring Riding is a whole body work out and ohhh so much more fun. The Bond - Being able to bond with the horse whilst riding, grooming and general horsemanship is invaluable. You can hug and kiss them like you did as a child and get away with it!! The Challenge - The older we get the less challenges we are faced with. Riding can be both physically and mentally challenging. Every horse is different on the ground and in the saddle, learning to work with each of their personalities, and quirks and then finding the best way to interact with them, each horse has something different to teach you. The learning never stops.... Friendship - Nothing quite like the new friends you will meet at the stables...they are the only ones who will smile indulgently at your pony stories!! No Gear required - At Ranchlands we have boots and helmets for you to borrow whilst you give it a go. Then when you are hooked (which you will be), you will actually have something to put on your birthday list!!! Intrigued??
17.01.2022 THANK-YOU!! Earlier this year an anonymous person donated a saddle to RDAQ. Based upon expressions of interest from Centres throughout the State, it was decide...d by the Board to hold a bit of a raffle and draw the winner of this amazing gift at the RDAQ AGM and RDA Townsville was lucky enough to win the draw. Thank you so much, whoever you are, for your generosity. Thanks also to Jan Croser from RDAA for conducting the draw. The saddle fits beautifully on our palomino mare Maggie, who was the 2018 RDAA Horse of the Year and we’re looking forward to sharing it with our riders for many years to come.
16.01.2022 Someone is snacky and a little naughty Perseverance at its best!!
16.01.2022 The school holidays is a busy and fun time at Ranchlands This week we held the Intro to Horses day. A morning of children and horses - thank you to all who attended for loving our horses and our facilitators for your time and knowledge sharing and of course our beautiful horses for allowing us to share their space This is for those who would like to know the horse a little better....how do we walk safely together, move our horse around us (they are big after all...), ...what is our horse telling us, how do they talk to each other in the herd, spending time grooming and being with our horse and of course having a fun bare back ride. The smiles tell the story.

16.01.2022 Testimonial Tuesday - Townsville Equine Awareness Learning held at Ranchlands Veronica ~ I participated in the programme in October last year. ... With regards my mental health, I have been (and am continuing to be) treated for general anxiety, major depression, adjustment disorder with anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder for the past 25 years. During this time, I existed. By existed, I mean I didnt experience life - choosing instead to stay in my house because I felt safe. Going grocery shopping or even socialising with family, caused me great distress. So, I preferred to be a hermit. On reflection, it has become evident since undertaking the programme, that I have been unaware of subtle changes in my life. I have started going to shopping centres, attending activities with my grandchildren, and having a smile on my face for no apparent reason. I wholeheartedly believe this resurgence in my confidence and happiness has been the direct result of this programme. I thank Lizzie, my equine support, for showing me how to break down barriers in order to have a more positive outlook on life. When YOU participate in the programme, you will understand what I mean about the horses helping us humans. I have learnt coping strategies to deal with anxiety and fear, hence building my trust and confidence. So much so, that I write this testimonial on a plane headed for Melbourne to visit my sister. Butterflies are still in my stomach, but I now know how to ground myself. I am still learning to be comfortable in uncomfortable situations. After my two-week stay in Melbourne, I will be flying to Cairns for two days to watch my two favourite singers perform in concert. And to make it even more extraordinary, I will be travelling solo. UNBELIEVABLE!!! #ranchlandsequestriancentre #townsvillehorseriding #iloveponies #supportlocaltownsville #northqueensland #townsvilleshines #equineassistedtherapy #townsvilleequineassistedtherapy #ilovehorses #horsecrazy #horseriders #ponypower #equinetherapy #ponytime #equineassistedlearning #equinepassion #equinesofinstagram #goneriding #ridinghorse #ridingschool See more

15.01.2022 Testimonial Day Townsville Equine Awareness Learning held at Ranchlands. Robyn ~ I was excited but also nervous about working with the horses.... Excited, because it was an adventure and I was open to what the horses had to teach me. Nervous, because I havent had much to do with horses, they are so big! Watching how the horses were so self regulated and were in the present moment and how they do better when they live in their community or herd. Not ashamed of who they are. They taught me that I am lovable. #ranchlandsequestriancentre #supportlocaltownsville #northqueensland #townsvilleequineassistedtherapy #equinetherapy #equineassistedlearning See more

12.01.2022 Now thats a beautiful scene. Extended holiday time Yep - the horses and ponies of Ranchlands have been having a little bonus RnR during Covid 19 restrictions. ... As we have been keeping to strict regulations by only performing One on One lessons, not all the horses are needed in the stables all the time. Those riders who are still having lessons may have noticed the changing of the guard so to speak We are rotating the crew out to their hollibob paddock to keep them fresh and enjoying life A big special thank you to Kylie and Shane from Diamond Excavators who have kindly let the horses mow their paddock during this period! Its Horse Heaven P.S. I think our trusty leader may require a little RnR after all this too See more
12.01.2022 To help you understand what the horse feels when you sit crookedly in the saddle "Load a wheelbarrow heavily to one side as in the center illustration. Now pu...sh the wheelbarrow, and feel how it pulls to the weighted side and how you are forced to lean in that direction to compensate. Thats how your horse feels when you sit unevenly in the saddle, as shown in the left image. When you sit evenly, the horse will be centered and balanced as shown in the illustration on the right." 11.01.2022 The End Of Another Era at Ranchlands The retirement of Storm, Lizzie and Ink - we have owned these special horses for 15 years. These three have not won ribbons in outside competitions, a dressage test or jumping event, been to pony club or a mustering camps. But they have given kids in wheelchairs a chance to sit on them and be their legs, they have helped many with anxiety to feel calmness just by their presence, they have stayed beside a troubled soul for many hours in... their paddock when they could have moved away at any time. As school horses they have allowed hundreds and hundreds of people of all ages to try and learn how to ride them, put up with all the wrong signals, the bouncing around on their back, to landing in the dirt, while they look on, to being part of the journey, for that person to feel good about themselves, helped them gain confidence, overcome their fears, and to express love. What service they have been to so many humans, with many relating stories of their special time on that particular horse, and what they have given them. So now time to give back to them - We have had many people scouting places, following leads to no avail and sleepless nights... Then out of the blue had a discussion with one pupils parents, with land, grass and caretaker, I initially asked about taking Storm and Ink, as thought Lizzie might not do too well in the paddock. But then when we bought Storm back from the temporary paddock, we were amazed to see the interaction between him and Lizzie, she was so happy to see him, touching, nuzzling, and never left his side, and vice versa, So what can you do..... A tentative question was asked if they could take her as well, so to the generosity of Geoff and Tasha, all three are retiring to the same paddock together So off they go today, the three mates, to spend their retirement days happily munching away in a nice big paddock, many memories and actually some tears as I type this. A job well done. Thank You Storm, Lizzie and Ink x #ranchlandsequestriancentre #thankyouhorses #supportlocaltownsvillle #townsville #horseretirement #thankyouponies #equineawarenesstownsville
10.01.2022 It's holiday time!!! A big thank you from all the team at Ranchlands for another super year. We have had a lot of fun, learned new skills, cemented friendships, overcome fears, accepted challenges, been in the moment, and realised dreams.... All the horses and ponies from Christmas Eve will be officially off on their well-earned Summer Holidays. Lessons generally resume in the second week of school term - of course as you know this is all weather dependant. Watch this space for updates and Jenny will be in touch with days and dates for lessons in 2021!! Again thank you, for your support, passion, and shared love of the horse. 07.01.2022 I just found out this guy, Ink, is retiring and going to a beautiful home. It made me reflect on when I met him in 2019 after just being released from hospital ...for melanoma cancer and he didnt leave my side for HOURS!!! I still had tubes coming out of my arm (see video) and I was alone, I was scared, and I was in desperate need of some connection. He provided me with comfort, affection and pure acceptance for as long as I was willing to receive it and I will NEVER FORGET that day!!! Horses are emotionally intelligent creatures and Ink knew I needed someone to just sit with me and let me cry it out. I will never forget that moment. And thats why Im so passionate about this work and hope to bring many others moments of true healing. @ Townsville, Queensland
05.01.2022 How fabulous is this photo - what a horse! But then read on. A tail of rags to riches if ever you have heard one. It is nice to be reminded that you do not need the flashiest of horse that enters the show ring to achieve great things! He looked like such a handsome noble fella x
05.01.2022 Happy Birthday to all our Horses and Ponies!!! In Australia, every horse has its birthday on the first day of August each year - known as the horses birthday. And while it might not be their exact birth day, the date of August 1 allows standardisation in horse events, like racing, and is linked to the breeding season of horses.
05.01.2022 Not really any more words required here..... Ok, maybe a few Honestly, no truer words said. The best smell in the world - yup, up there with fresh baby bums, actually beats baby bums hands down!! Fixes all your woes and ailments that's for sure, they just melt away.....and peace enters your soul....
04.01.2022 Meet the Herd ~ Leo ~ Colour / Sex - Leopard Gelding ~ Breed - Appaloosa... ~ Age - 23yr (roughly?) ~ Height - 12.3hh A big man in a little outfit! Leo is a ladies man and thinks he is the top dog of the herd, his true love, however, is Maggie, he is never too far from her sights! Keep an eye on our video post of the herd playing up in the paddock - you will often find Leo is the instigator!! Leo is very reactive to his rider and in his younger days could be seen whizzing around the large arena with a glint in his eye. It does seem though that with age our Cassanova has mellowed and you can now find Leo happily taking care of our younger beginner riders in the round yard and small arena, he is wonderfully patient with them Have any photos or stories you would like to share of Leo??
04.01.2022 Testimonial Tuesday - Townsville Equine Awareness Learning held at Ranchlands Jo -38 It is hard to describe just how wonderful it is to participate in the Mindful / Awareness day programs (I have done 3). 03.01.2022 Life is certainly not perfect and news flash nor is riding..... The smell of the horse, now thats perfect. The way they give you peace and quiet after a busy day, thats perfect. The bond that develops over time, of spending time with each other, thats perfect. The smile on your face, that is certainly perfect. Each time you ride, it does not have to be perfect. What can you improve on? Your position, a leg aid, a transition, flexion....the list is endless. If ...that improvement is only for a few strides, a couple of transitions - fabulous well done!! If you have a few yes aha moments - brilliant - well done pony good job - pat, pat. You are a team, whether riding your own horse or a riding school horse. For that ride, the partnership is one. Listen to the horse, he will in turn listen to you. All that matters is the smile, the smell and the pats, hugs and kisses. Of course the wonderful moments are a given, your riding, enjoy it, smile and go for small successes. See more

01.01.2022 When a non-equestrian asks you why you say riding a horse is difficult, tell them this: Learning to ride a horse is like learning to fly a spaceship. The contr...ol panel has about 7,000 different buttons, dials, levers and knobs. And there are flashing lights and beeps everywhere. And all the buttons are labelled in a completely alien language. And youre being taught by someone who doesnt read the language either, but is building on years of experience of pressing the buttons and gauging the reactions. And theyre teaching you in a language youre only just learning. And every day when you get in the spaceship, the buttons might not do what they did yesterday. Or they might And when you get into a different spaceship, all the buttons are in a different place and do different things. And the spaceship has a mind of its own and can decide to turn all the controls off without any warning at all. Oh, and the spaceship is afraid of leaves and bits of plastic. But when we have a day where we find the right buttons and the spaceship responds, we feel like were flying. There is no better feeling See more
01.01.2022 Intro to Horses It has been a busy week at Ranchlands thats for sure! This may be a favourite event though. For those children who have never met a horse, or for those new to riding we offer Intro to Horses during the school holidays. We held the first one for these holidays on Thursday. ... A busy, active, fun filled morning. There is nothing better than seeing a childs smile when around our beautiful horses, the amazement, wonder and love is plain to see. Yes there may be some trepidation for some, but as the day progresses this fades as confidence grows. Understanding the horse, listening to the horse, leading and moving the horse safely, grooming the horse, a bareback ride and just being with the horse are some of the mornings activities New mates both 4 and 2 legged are made, smiles and laughter is plentiful. I would imagine car rides home with parents are full of tales of ponies and dreams......
