22.01.2022 Grant Newbon has worked in Tasmania's apple valley his entire life. From building apple bins after school to working each aspect of the packing shed over the last 35 years, he has an instinctual understanding of the operational requirements of the apple industry. There isn’t a job in the packhouse that Grant hasn’t done himself, he’s hands-on with quality inspection and often forms part of the packing line alongside his team. His experience allows him to run one of the most efficient packhouses in the country. Delivering high-quality apples, on time, each time is Grant's driving principle. #passion #apples #tasmania #huonvalley #fruit #team

19.01.2022 Doesn’t Pricey look glorious surrounded by the autumn tones of the orchard? Now that the fruit picking is well and truly done it’s time for some orchard maintenance. There’s a fair bit we have to get through (Pricey has already started pruning). We’ll be sharing some videos about what we get up to in the orchard over autumn and winter, keep an eye out, they’ll be coming soon...... #discovertasmania #organic #tasmania #apples #appleorchard #autumn See more

18.01.2022 We operate out of our pack house located at our Grove orchard. We have a team of twelve local people who make up our core team and during the picking season we hire another sixty pairs of hands to help retrieve our apples from the trees. As the apples progress through our pack house they are checked by 24 pairs of eyes as well as passing through our grader twice, this means that our suppliers are provided with quality fruit each time on time. #organic #quality #team #australianmade #tasmania #apples #huonvalley

16.01.2022 We are on Instagram make sure you head over and follow us for videos from the orchard and Andrew Smith. We are planning some videos about orchard care and the growing process so stay tuned!

15.01.2022 Our Rookwood orchard is located on the banks of the Huon River. If you were to leave the orchard and head south-west you'd soon find yourself wandering through the pristine Tasmanian wilderness. We treat this water source with respect and feel privileged to have such a glorious place to take a lunch break #huonvalley #discovertasmania #tassie #nature #wilderness #orchard #organic #apples

14.01.2022 What a special way to end the week. Due to the recent Covid situation in Victoria, APAL was unable to hold their annual event honouring those who’ve been influential in the apple and pear industry in Australia. Instead of receiving this award in Melbourne, our very own Ian Smith, was instead presented with his award in front of all our staff right here in the Huon. He was the 2020 recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award and we all couldn’t be prouder or happier abou...t it. Congratulations Ian, thanks for everything you’ve done for us and for the industry in Australia. #apal #legend See more

13.01.2022 We pride ourselves on innovation at R&R. For example, we’ve developed a device to keep the team warm while pruning in sub-zero temperatures (it was -2 degrees in the orchard this morning). Josh seems to think it’s working well!... #innovate #apples #orchard #winter #icy #winter #tasmania #huonvalley See more

13.01.2022 This is a Huoncry brand crate sticker. This label was found on crates post-1952 and was used by The Port-Huon Fruitgrowers Co-op. It’s believed to have been designed by Frank Burdett and was printed by the Mercury Press Pty Ltd in Hobart. The label was 215mm h x 247mm w. Beautiful isn’t it?... #vintage #retro #huonvalley #history #tasmania #appleisle See more

12.01.2022 Look, no hands! Nothing like getting a new bit of machinery to make your day exciting. This machine helps to cultivate the ground and ‘hill up’ the rows so the apple trees don’t get wet feet. ... After the first pass all the GPS coordinates saved and loaded in. From there on the tractor lines up the rows and does it automatically for any future work including planting! #agriculture #machine #futuristic #organic #tasmania #huonvalley #apples @ R&R Smith Organic Tasmanian Apples See more

04.01.2022 The golden era of the ‘Apple Isle’ saw more than 1,000 apple growers operating in the Huon Valley, nowadays there’s about 20 growers left. We’ll be sharing a collection of these eye catching, detailed, historical mementos on our accounts along with as much information about the grower that we can. Our brand uses a lot of the bright colours found in these vintage apple stickers, it’s to connect us and remind us of this era in Tasmanian Apple growing history.... Hawker & Shadforth sold plenty of our fruit in the 1970’s and 1980’s in Tasmania. Here is their sticker, their apples were exported as Red Ribbon fancy Tasmanian Apples. Have you got any memories of this time? We’d love to hear about them below. #appleisle #tasmania #discovertasmania #tassiemade #organic #retro #vintage

04.01.2022 We still have areas we must focus on when it comes to our product and the environment. We grow our apples using sustainable farming practices and are committed to extending this line of thinking into our packaging and distribution. Just like growing an apple tree, these things take time but we’ve planted the seed and are committed to seeing it through. ... #organic #sustainability #reducetozero

03.01.2022 147 years of growing apples in the Huon Valley. #appleisle #randrsmith #organic #apples
