25.01.2022 COVID beach safety update: All beaches are currently very busy but within crowd limits. Thank you to everybody for social distancing and moving on once you’ve had a swim. Beach car parks at Coogee, Clovelly and La Perouse are now full. Please do not drive to the beach. Just a reminder all beaches are alcohol free. Rangers are actively patrolling beaches today and enforcing alcohol restrictions.... Beaches are likely to continue to be busy this afternoon.

23.01.2022 Coogee Bay Road Shared Space Project has started! To follow up on this morning's post, we wanted to give some background to this project. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we were approached by businesses to create more space for trading, outdoor dining and pedestrians. We presented an initial plan that created a mall-like area, closing off traffic entirely along this stretch of the street. However, after consulting with the community and businesses, we altered the plan to mainta...in parking by creating a one-way route. This design will widen footpaths allowing for more outdoor dining space, while also allow for parking on both sides of the street. We worked with the business owners on Coogee Bay Road to create a plan that meets their needs, while also creating more space for the community. Over the coming week, we will be installing grassed areas, tables and seating. In these photos you can see the space made for extra dining and seating as well as the parking spots maintained on the road. See more

23.01.2022 Thought the scares were over now that Halloween has passed? Here’s a scary fact: 40% of the waste tossed out in red bins is food waste. By using the new FOGO (Food Organics and Garden Organics) bin from March 2021, everyone can help prevent this waste from going to landfill. This will reduce harmful greenhouse gases from being released into the environment.

20.01.2022 Who knows what this little guy is? Hint: it's native to Australia and was in our Live Streamed bird show on Sunday.

18.01.2022 Learn the basics of how and why to save seeds, including the difference between saving wet seeds and dry seeds. Seeds were hard to come by in the pandemic induced panic buying. However if you know how to save seeds yourself, you never need to worry. This workshop will cover the basics of how and why to save seeds including the difference between saving wet seeds and dry seeds.

18.01.2022 Great news! We've started delivery of your new red and yellow bins! Next month you’ll receive your new FOGO bin, kitchen caddy and compostable liners, too! More information about how to use the new FOGO service will be delivered with your bins. Why are you receiving new bins?... All residents will receive new bins as part of the new FOGO waste collection service, which starts in March. This is to make sure you have the right size bins and that they are functional, as some old ones may be broken or damaged. The new bins are made from a high percentage of recycled content. Your new bins also have information on the lids to tell you what to put in each one. Providing new bins to residents is more cost effective in the long run compared to partial replacement of old bins.

11.01.2022 In mid-2019, we asked the community to tell us how the new playground at Kokoda Park in Kensington should be designed. More than 40 playgrounds were designed by local kids aged 1 to 11 years old, some with a little help from mum and dad. From these we developed a concept proposal that includes bigger swings, rope play with monkey bars, and balancing beam for the big kids, as well as a toddler swing, seesaw, and a new boat for imaginative play for the little ones. The playground will also feature a wheelchair accessible carousel and sound sensory play equipment. Have a look at the plans and share your thoughts with us! https://www.yoursay.randwick.nsw.gov.au/KokodaParkUpgrade

08.01.2022 Rebecca Huntley is one of Australias most experienced and respected social researchers and the author of the newly published book, How to Talk About Climate Change in a Way That Makes a Difference. Taking her insights from the social sciences rather than climate science, Rebecca reveals, the key to progress on climate change is in the mindset of human attitudes and our ability to change. Whether youre already alarmed and engaged with the issue, concerned but disengaged, a passive sceptic or an active denier, understanding our emotional reactions to climate change - why it makes us anxious, fearful, angry or detached - is critical to coping on an individual level and convincing each other to act. Rebecca s message is one of hope and refreshing optimism.
