16.01.2022 Could you please help the studio open earlier by signing this petition. You may be aware from one of my emails or texts, that the studio will be able to reopen for face to face Pilates in Step 4, which is 23rd November. This is too long. One of the main reasons is that Pilates has been lumped into indoor exercise along with Gyms and personal training studios. I completely understand for these businesses, as indoor is risky, but the biggest factor is heavy exertion and brea...thing hard expelling LOTS of droplets. This has been shown overseas as being involved with spreading Coronavirus. Sadly there has been a proliferation of group Reformer classes, which are really a group fitness classes where the focus is mainly on exertion. The training for these instructors is exercise and fitness. The Pilates I teach and my training is different, the main focus is rehabilitation or corrective exercise for injury recovery and injury prevention. Or helping clients with conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s, cancer treatment and osteoporosis. Very minimal heavy exertion and fully supervised for safe set up and thorough cleaning. The Association that I am a member, Australian Pilates Method Association (APMA) has organized a petition which wants us to be under the same steps as Physiotherapy based exercise and able to open earlier. https://www.change.org/p/minister-for-health-of-victoria-re

16.01.2022 Fascia is connective tissue and the membrane which contains muscles, ligaments, and even organs. Fascia connects muscles to each other helping to stabilize the body, forming various lines through the body. Some of these lines are deep and some more superficial. ... One example is the superficial back line which runs from the base of your foot, through to calves, hamstring, part of the pelvis, along your spine, neck, over the top of your head to above your eyebrows. An example of how this effects you, if your calves are tight this can effect the bottom of your feet contributing to Plantar Fasciitis. Tight short hamstrings making your back feel tight. Or a head ache being relieved by releasing tight neck muscles. So if you are coming in to the studio with a tight back, don’t be surprised I may get you to release your feet, calves, hamstrings and glutes! See more

14.01.2022 What’s your greatest Pilates achievement? This is the week 4 competition question. Mine initially, when I started Pilates over 20 years ago, was to get out of chronic pain for my back and neck, simple. It was so amazing and powerful. ... Previously I used to be a keen gym goer but I injured myself all the time. With Pilates I strengthened my stabilizing muscles which were surprisingly weak. I learnt not to be scared of movement. I fact, when I moved well I felt better. Pilates gave me strategies and confidence. I still get flare ups but they are not as debilitating as they use to be. I love this photo with the late great Minnie, the German Shorthaired Pointer. She was a wonderful dog and I still miss her. See more

13.01.2022 Neck tightness and pain can be really debilitating, could it be caused by your glasses? https://www.rangespilates.com.au//can-your-glasses-be-caus

12.01.2022 The wisdom of Pooh...happy day.

12.01.2022 The mega storm on Wednesday the 9th June is now nearly 2 weeks ago and I would like to give my heart felt thanks to so many people, friends, family, clients, businesses and the amazing Yarra Ranges community. It’s been an incredibly stressful time, we had no power for over 9 days at a very cold time of year, plus even more stressful no phone and no internet for over a week. We are a full electric house and on tank water, so we lose everything including water. We had to get wa...ter by using a gravity feed from an outside tap. So no mains pressure water. I would like to thank those that lent us a generator, it was great, we had some lights, a recharge station, tv and importantly a fan for our wood heater, for the loan of a couple of camp stoves which meant I heat up hot water for washing dishes and hot drinks. Thank you for the many offers of showers. It was wonderful to have a gorgeous hot shower and for the relief center showers my husband used at the Monbulk RSL. Thank you the offers and use of washing machines and to the Enviro laundromat in Monbulk for discounted use of the tumble dryer, sooo nice having clean and dry clothes. Thank you to Chiropractic Presicion in Silvan for use of your WiFi when we had no way of communicating with the outside world. Thank you to the Monbulk RSL for supplying battery charging stations, hot drinks and hot water. Thank you to @bambamitalian for pivoting so we could have some yummy meals and not try to cook on a camp stove outside in the cold. Thank you to the Monbulk Pharmacy @monbulk.pharmacy for the free hot water bottles which was so appreciated as our home got colder and colder. Of course, thank you to all the emergency services, volunteer CFA, volunteer SES, Ambulance and police who have worked in this trying time. I listened to the CFA scanner that night it sounded horrendous and incredibly dangerous as crews were going to helped people who had trees fall on their houses. Thank you especially to all those that reached out and checked we were going OK and to our amazing community who have shown again what a great place this is.

11.01.2022 Tight neck and shoulders? If you have a full length foam roller at home this exercise is perfect to open up the chest and help release those tight muscle. If the the chest muscles are short and tight, they pull the shoulders forward, creating tension in the upper back, neck and the top of the shoulders. Just doing this simple exercise will help to release them.... To make it stronger try to have your wrists lower than your elbows as you sweep past your shoulders. Importantly, as with any exercise you do at home, there should be no pain or discomfort so stop if that is the case. No foam? That’s fine just use a rolled up beach towel or bath sheet. It would be a strong but will still help to open the chest.

10.01.2022 People are often surprised that I, as a Pilates Teacher, do my own Pilates with another Pilates Teacher. For me it’s essential. Even though I’ve been teaching Pilates now for about 17 years and practicing it for over 22 years, I still need to keep my body moving as well as possible. I have a chronic neck issue which potentially can cause problems with my shoulders and the rest of my spine. If I don’t do Pilates my body lets me know. ... It doesn’t have to be the full hour but if I do something most days it makes a big difference. I also have my regular Pilates session with another Pilates teacher where they can check my alignment and technique. This way I get most out of the exercises. Pilates keeps my body moving as pain free as possible, it’s a time to switch off and mindfully move. It’s definitely my happy hour. See more

10.01.2022 Lockdown is extended for indoor exercise for another week, so the studio is closed until Friday 18th June. We’ve also been badly effected by the Wednesday night storms and have no power, no internet, no phones, so no Zoom Pilates. Power is not due to back on until next Sunday but I suspect it may be longer looking at the amount of trees down and damage.... Thankfully our house is OK but there are 5 large trees down on the property. The alpacas are fine but a bit rattled as 3 of trees which came down are in their paddock. They slept last night right in the middle of the paddock, poor darlings normally they sleep under the trees. #rangespilates #pilates #pilatesmonbulk #pilatesdandenongs #pilatesnopower #alpaca #alpacas #dandenongranges #monbulk

08.01.2022 Today is RUOK? Day, a day to focus on mental health and suicide prevention, but really every day should be RUOK? day. This year has been incredibly tough especially if you live in Victoria or Melbourne. My studio has been closed been closed from the mid March, for face to face Pilates, for 13 weeks. Open for only 2 1/2 weeks and then closed since early July to 23rd November.... I’ve been really down at times, especially at the beginning of the 2nd lockdown. Now, thankfully my mood is improving but it’s been a hard slog. Maybe it’s the warming weather, COVID numbers decreasing, talking to my Zoom clients and friends. All has helped. To quote from Lauren Warren - Check on your Melbourne friends. Check on your strong friends. Check on your quiet friends. Check on your ‘happy’ friends. Check on your creative friends. Check on each other. Gorgeous illustration from Instagram @josie.doodies See more

08.01.2022 Thank you to the lovely client who dropped in some freshly picked Peonies. They are gorgeous. It was great hearing the easing of restrictions. I know for me personally the 25km is wonderful news. With reopening the studio for face to face Pilates at this stage we do not have a date but it I will let you when this date is released.... In the meantime these are your options for Pilates Maximum of 2 people in a public park or reserve. I’ve rung the DHHS and even though I have lots of space outside it has to be in a public space. I will bring the mats, props such as foam rollers, barrels, etc. Just choose a place you prefer. Cost is $85 for 1 person or $105 for 2. No extra charge for my travel. Loan of a piece of Pilates equipment from the studio!!! Details are in the recent email I sent. If you didn’t get this please let me know. You could use the Ladder Barre in your OWN HOME! Pilates by Zoom. Either a one off or sigh up for regular session and have the free loan of one of the small props such as Chi Ball, Foam Roller, Massage Balls. Hope to see you soon

07.01.2022 The studio has been lonely without you but exciting news - WE ARE BACK OPEN from Monday 9th November. More details to follow.

05.01.2022 Shadow is going to miss her tummy rubs for the next 7 days. The Studio will be closed for face to face Pilates due to the 7 day Victorian statewide lockdown. Pilates by Zoom will be available at your usual session time. If interested please contact me for a link. If you are going through a roller coaster of emotions like me, these words from @naomi_rossthorn_ are very pertinent.... It’s a time of uncertainty and will bring up many emotions, you might feel scared, angry, sad, frustrated or many other things. In the context it’s normal. This Pandemic has been going for over 18 months now. It’s OK to be tired. It’s OK to be over it. It’s OK to want it to go away. Some people have been feeling a lot of nervous energy in their body. That’s normal too, given the circumstances. Just notice it. You may feel scared for no good reason. Our brains are design to detect threat and COVID-19 is a ‘threat’ to our way of life, among other things. Focus on things that give you enjoyment, make you laugh if possible, write down your feelings, journal them and talk to people who you feel are supportive. Seek assistance if needed This pandemic will bring up many emotions and that is normal. If you need help contact Your GP Beyond Blue 1300 224 636 Lifeline Australia 13 11 14
