25.01.2022 COVID-19 made many activities this year grind to a halt. But it didn’t stop one grandparent’s group from coming together to ward off the loneliness that came with lockdown and restrictions. Supported by Relationship Australia NSW's Community Builders program, the group was a collaborative project with the Dept of Communities and Justice NSW - safer together, Multicultural NSW, and the City of Ryde. In addition to their fabulous online choir, the group were also able to take part in specific workshops about local services and issues affecting the community, English classes and fitness sessions. We're so proud of our Community Builders program and all they do to support to vulnerable families living in the wider Northern Sydney area.

19.01.2022 Our friends at The University of Melbourne are conducting a national study about the wellbeing of parents of young children during the COVID-19 pandemic. If you’re parents of children aged 3-7, who usually attend childcare, please consider taking part in their 20 minute survey. Findings will help them to understand how to improve advocacy and supports for the wellbeing of parents and young children in childcare. https://education.unimelb.edu.au//parent-and-child-wellbei

18.01.2022 Today is White Ribbon Day, a day close to our hearts. White Ribbon Australia's vision is echoed in many of our domestic and family violence services including our Safer Pathways program, Taking Responsibility service and Women Choice and Change programs. Domestic violence is a disturbingly common issue in Australia and has become even more prevalent during the pandemic. Calls to domestic violence helplines have dramatically increased, and in March alone, Google recorded a 75% spike in internet searches relating to support for domestic violence. As an organisation, we rise to the challenge of this increased demand, and our collective recognition of White Ribbon Day is a crucial step in this direction. https://bit.ly/3nJaX8z

18.01.2022 This week is National NAIDOC Week, a time to celebrate and acknowledge the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the history of this country a history which dates back thousands of generations. It’s about seeing, hearing and learning the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander’s 65,000+ year history of this country - which is Australian history. It's about celebrating that we have the o...ldest continuing cultures on the planet! Here at Relationship Australia NSW we're encouraging all staff to get involved in a number of ways, like researching the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander traditional owners of their own suburb, or learning the meanings of local or national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander place names and words. Or simply to get involved in one of the many many events that are on offer this week. You can join in too, here https://www.naidoc.org.au/get-involved/naidoc-week-events

03.01.2022 According to the 2019 ABC's Australia Talks National Survey, over 13% of Australians meet their partner at work or a work event. And what constitutes the tipping point of it becoming a 'relationship' anyway? Our CEO talks to the The Sydney Morning Herald.

02.01.2022 We proudly acknowledge the International Day of People with Disability - Australia. As an organisation, we’re committed to ensuring inclusivity and access to meaningful opportunities, supports and services for those who live with a disability. Accessibility will be a key focus next year, as we conduct an audit of all our internal office spaces. We'll also build on our learnings from the work being conducted through our Disability Royal Commission Counselling Service. Support... offered has included NDIS package applications; housing homeless clients; working with young men living with intellectual disability made unemployed through the pandemic; and generally managing an increased number of referrals because of high levels of anxiety, low mood and disorientation. With many people living with disability telling the Disability Royal Commission they felt ‘forgotten and ignored, stressed and frightened’, we'll continue doing what we can to see an end to that.
