15.01.2022 Thank you for helping us get through 2020! It has certainly been a rollercoaster year for us at Rapid Ascent but you know what we made it, WE ALL MADE IT and we’re proud of what we achieved despite the COVID-challenges. If we look back on 2020 there are plenty of things that make us smile the biggest of all being the sense of community within the outdoor sports fraternity and the way we’ve supported one another... Things like seeing trail runners exchange virtual high-5’...s through a phone screen, coaches making their training programs available for free and receiving e-mails that simple ask how we’re going. Although we have conducted far fewer events than ever before, we still feel fortunate to do what we do and carry a greater sense of purpose to run plenty more rewarding races around Australia in the future. We hope you’ve survived the year in good health, have a great Christmas with your family and that you’ll join us for a return to racing in 2021 NOTE: The Rapid Ascent office is now closed through until Monday 4th January. Stay active. The Rapid Ascent Team

13.01.2022 Ready, set, go X NO GO. Today was to be the start of our 2020 Redback MTB Stage Race on the sun-baked trails surrounding Alice Springs but damn Coronavirus has put a stop that and we cancelled the event back in June This event has become an annual migration for the Rapid Ascent team over the last 12 years where we, and all the competitors, enjoy soaking up some mid-summer sun and get super-excited about riding bikes along the region’s epic trails. The 2020 edition was t...o be the 13th year of the race and included some new trails, changed stages, new logo and a heap of new ideas BUT WE WILL BE BACK!!! We love the Red Centre and the camaraderie and dusty smiles this race delivers and we will for sure be back in 2021. THANK YOU to anyone who was / has joined us for this race in the past we’ve pulled together a bunch of old and new photos from years gone by to reminisce but and please do us a favour by sharing a memory or a photo from your Redback experience so we can all remember the good times and get excited about 2021. Take care out there and see you in Alice Springs between Thursday 20 August Sunday 23 August next year, because: Good things come to those who wait (and stay healthy).

13.01.2022 The Margaret River Ultra Marathon is ALL SYSTEMS GO for its rescheduled date of 17 October 2020. 11.01.2022 Stepping off a plane at Alice Springs airport is like stepping into a slower pace of life Arrive. Relax. Then ride. These are the words of Mike Blewitt from AMB which sound just about perfect right now. Read more of what he has to say in this article... and hopefully we'll see you at The Redback MTB Stage Race on 20 - 23 August.

11.01.2022 During these times of isolation its important to embrace things that can still bring us together and that’s exactly with 450+ runners did with our virtual trail running races held in June and July. We held our second virtual event yesterday and we’re still buzzing with post race energy knowing that people were running ‘together’ all across Australia. Connecting runners through ZOOM, live tracking and facebook we created a sense of camaraderie and community that we’re all mi...ssing right now. So thank you to all the runners who took part, who pinned a number plate to their chest, who raced their own course then dialled in to share their experiences with each other. It was awesome! Thanks also to our sponsors especially our new favourite partners at MINI Australia who’ve loaned us one of their MINI Countryman vehicles for a few months, its equally awesome. #trailrunningseries #trailrun @rapidascent @miniaustralia @footpro.com.au @thehiitfactory_hq @32gi_australia @move_performance_underwear @glimmergearaus @greatoceanroadholidays @greatoceanroadrealestate @themelbournecoffeeground

11.01.2022 Facebook LIVE Q&A with elite runners / coaches: David Eadie and Nikki Wynd. 8:00pm Thursday 20th. This is the second episode of our Facebook Live Q&A series cal...led 'Ultra Experience athlete interviews presented by CLIF'. We’ll chat to David and Nikki with the endeavour of learning from their considerable experience competing in events of all lengths across Australia and around the world. David Eadie, otherwise known as ‘The Running Man,’ is an ambassador for the Surf Coast Century and a major coaching partner for the event, but did you know he’s run a 3:54 mile, raced for Olympic Games selection, has finished multiple Western States 100 milers and was Australian Ultra Runner of the year? Meanwhile Nikki is a former winner of the Badwater Ultra (The toughest race in the world) and multiple 24hr track national champion and all-round running guru. So tune in to this live discussion on our Rapid Ascent Ultra Running Events Facebook page because there is no doubt that we can all learn a lot from these two! It’s a bit like a podcast but you can ASK YOUR OWN QUESTIONS in real time, see what’s happening and win some cool prizes from CLIF Bar! Tune in to the Rapid Ascent Ultra Running Facebook page at 8:00pm Thursday 20th August for all the stories.

10.01.2022 Rapid Ascent events have the objective of providing fun for the whole family so Saturday’s action at the Eagle Bay Epic didn’t just stop with a short course adventure race. Other activities included a fun Kids’ Adventure event where 500+ kids tackled a fun 3.5km running + obstacle course as well as the spectacular ‘WA Wife Carrying Championships’. Designed as a fun piggyback / couple carry event the event saw 8 pairs race each other around a 400m course that included a few h...urdles, limbos and other challenges before a sprint for the line. The winner receiving their weight in beer as a just reward for a spectacular event on the grounds of the Eagle Bay Brewery. Racing continues today with the premier Leeuwin Long course race that includes: 23km Mountain Bike, 2km Ocean Swim, 13.5km Paddle, 12.5km Brooks Trail Run and 300m Finish Sprint back to the line. Conditions continue to be picture perfect and we’re in for another great day of action in adventure paradise. Photo credit: @saltdiaries and Skyworks. These and many more photos will be for sale on www.photos4sale.co.nz in coming days.

10.01.2022 Gravel riding is going through a massive resurgence... You see people have been riding gravel for over a hundred years, its just that only recently has it become a 'thing' again. This great article on MTB Aus website explains plenty more about its origins, the bikes and how it all works. Well worth a read. And when you're all pysched to escape the bitumen and dive off-road then enter our Great Otway Gravel Grind with 97km and 49km courses on 21 February 2020.

09.01.2022 It is with great disappointment that Rapid Ascent announces the postponement of the 2020 Surf Coast Century presented by MINI which was to be held on 19 September at Anglesea, Victoria. The new date will be Saturday 5 December, 2020. CARE PACKAGE for entrants: We know this is a really frustrating change for anyone training for the event so to help you navigate to the new date, and as some level of compensation we have prepared a CARE PACKAGE for current entrants and those who... enter before 31st July 2020. The Care Package provides guidance on how to reset your mind, adjust your physical training, incorporate strength as well as exclusive sponsor offers valued at $150+. We held great hope for this event since the original onset of the COVID-19, however due to renewed outbreak in Victoria and restrictions set in place by the Victorian Government we have had to change plans. Rather than simply cast runners adrift or leave them lost on the trails with no assistance, it is hoped the care package helps educate and motivate runners across the intervening 11 weeks. We are incredibly deflated by this outcome but know it is the right decision for our community. We look forward to sharing your ultra trail running journey with you in December. All current 2020 entrants have been sent an e-mail outlining your entry options and link to the exclusive Care Package. Please contact Rapid Ascent [email protected] if you have any questions. 08.01.2022 As we start to look back on the year of 2020 we have highlighted a few interesting stats and new industry buzz words that help define our year. Industry buzz words - postponement an inevitable word that would get used way too much in 2020 - cancellation bad word... - DHHS an invisible entity that dictated how our lives and business were to be conducted but who never actually contacted us directly about anything! - WA a seemingly tropical island paradise that was impossible to travel to yet promised so much freedom and hope! - Covid-Safe Plan something that took quite a long time to write but by the time one finished writing it, one had to return to the beginning and re-write it again and again and again! - Budget a supposed financial planning tool that means nothing and changes weekly and still means nothing - Jobkeeper A gift from God (or the PM anyway)! Stats: - Race Director John Jacoby did NOT travel interstate once in 2020! This is the first time this has happened for at least 25 years - 0 flights taken (65 flights caught in 2019) - 1 vehicle hired (38 cars in 2019) - 6 Physical event days RA staff attended (31 days in 2019) - 5,720 competitors in the 6 events we did conduct (12,695 competitors in 2019) - John’s Landcruiser nearly seized up, travelling less than 5,000km for the entire year! (20,000+km in 2019) - 1,000’s of ZOOM calls especially with Annie living in Alice Springs (0 zoom calls in 2019) - 2 virtual events conducted - zero people on the start line; zero people on the finish line! - 2 events conducted without us attending in person (thanks WA crew!)

06.01.2022 Rapid Ascent regretfully advises that due to COVID-19 and recent announcements (https://ab.co/2Od9ZBK) made by the NT Chief Minister regarding borders, we have been forced to cancel The 2020 Redback MTB Stage Race which was to be held on 20-23 August in Alice Springs, Northern Territory. Every endeavour was made to conduct the 2020 event and reach our 100-rider minimum, however with border restrictions preventing Victorians, Western Australians, international riders (and the ...Rapid Ascent team) from entering the NT, as well as the heightened risks of spreading of COVID-19 means an event in 2020 is no longer possible. All entrants have been sent an e-mail outlining your entry options. Please contact Rapid Ascent via [email protected] if you have any questions. We are very disappointed by this outcome but feel it is the only safe and sensible option. Thank you again for your understanding and support. Stay safe, stay active, ride the dream. Sam, John, Annie and Adele - your Rapid Ascent team.

06.01.2022 It was SO GOOD to return to racing trails at Yarra Bend today as we kicked off our Trail Running Series after an 18month hiatis. Check the smiles on these faces!

04.01.2022 We can race!!! We are super stoked to announce that the Surf Coast Century will go ahead on 5th 6th December YEW!! Premier Dan Andrews’s announcements earlier today confirming an easing of restrictions effective from 23rd November have basically given the event a big GREEN LIGHT TO GO AHEAD! (The only thing that could stop us is if a big outbreak occurs that postpones these changes but the way things are trending this is very very unlikely). We have approval (and massive... levels of excitement) from the Surf Coast Shire who have been very supportive of our efforts to conduct the event from the word go and we believe all other stakeholders will now confirm the ability to proceed. The event will be conducted with a revised format as outlined on the event website, with field limits and other restraints to ensure we minimise group gatherings to less than 50 people, but the ethos remains the same as always - to provide a rewarding run through a simply spectacular course surrounded only by wilderness, wildflowers and a handful of friendly volunteers. All current entrants are asked to follow the instruction e-mailed on 28th October to either confirm your entry or withdraw before 12:00pm Monday 9th Nov (tomorrow) so we know who’s in and can make space for the many that now want to race. Entries are still open for all races (100km solo, 50km solo and relay teams) but we are approaching the field limits in all races. Thank you for your continued belief in the race and the chance to achieve something great before 2020 is done. We are so excited!!! www.surfcoastcentury.com.au #surfcoastcentury @miniaustralia @surfcoastshire @lasportivaaustralia @steigensport @greatoceanroadresort @greatoceanroadholidays @clifbar @tailwindnutrition @bogongequipment

03.01.2022 We genuinely love what we do here at Rapid Ascent conducting races that put smiles (and grimaces) on people’s faces in some beautiful parts of the country. Su...re, we feel a little unlucky right now because one of our favorite events - the Surf Coast Century - would have been this weekend if it were not for everyone’s least favorite virus but we are currently working with the authorities on plans for the Surf Coast Century to proceed within the restrictions and with a limited field on the 5th and 6th of December. Our dream is to enable runners to do what they love before the year is out. We’ll keep working, so keep smiling, stay positive and stay tuned for more details once confirmed. www.SurfCoastCentury.com.au

The first 40km are steep, muddy and adventurous so this video we show you what’s involved before you get to the more familiar terrain around Forrest. A must watch for any 100km rider
