18.04.2022 Why wait inside when you can wait outside? We are back open for 2021 and have a beautifully finished courtyard to enjoy (please note, you can still wait inside if you’d prefer )

14.04.2022 Did you know we now offer online sessions? It has been really enjoyable running online sessions with families over the past few months. For many parents, this was the first time using RPM with their children; an experience which has been very gratifying and rewarding to share with them. ... What does an online session look like? Don't worry! The session and content is delivered as usual. Participants can then either interact with the screen or parents can facilitate eg. writing down and presenting a choice. You will be guided and supported every step of the way! What resources will you need? Just a pencil, paper and some kind of alphabet (you can print one out, draw your own or we could post one to you). Not sure your child will engage in online sessions? Many parents have had the same thought and then been pleasantly surprised! To put your mind at ease, we are happy to offer you a complimentary online session to give it a go. If online sessions aren't for you, perhaps we can find other ways to assist you in reaching your goals such as sending you weekly lessons to try in your own time. This is an exciting opportunity to work with families outside of Sydney too! Perhaps you're new to RPM or perhaps you've been doing it a while and need some help with something in particular? If you live interstate or in another country, feel free to contact us and to see what days and times might be available to work together. Email [email protected] www.rpm-australia.com

08.04.2022 Going somewhere for the first time to do something new can be daunting. Sometimes, seeing some visuals beforehand can help relieve some of the nervous feelings your child may be experiencing. If your child uses a visual routine, feel free to print these out and add them to your library. ... Perhaps you've been using a 'first-then' board at home? Choose a visual and try showing your child "first RPM with Greg and then..." adding a picture of something fun, reassuring, or motivating such as the car, home, iPad, dinner etc. It's great to take a picture of the real object (eg. your actual car) so your child can easily connect the idea and has realistic expectations of what's to come. 20.03.2022 Not sure what to talk about? Preparing RPM sessions can be stressful and time consuming when juggling other things. Try looking up a current event and discuss something happening near you or around the world that way, all you need to do is think of the questions! This week we've been discussing Chinese New Year! From reading a simple text on the event you can ask questions around: ... - The lunisolar calendar - The 12 zodiac signs - Look up the year you're born to find your zodiac sign - Discover some traits of your zodiac sign - Discuss the lantern festival - Learn about the different traditions and festivities - Look up pictures of celebrations around the globe ...and many more things! Happy Chinese New Year

28.02.2022 On the move? Don't worry! RPM is a flexible approach and can be utilised in many ways. Today we might stand, tomorrow we may walk around the room. Whatever the case may be, we always find a way to engage each and every participant!

17.02.2022 Did you know that we often include the use of technology within our RPM sessions? We find that using photos and videos can help gain or regain attention, connect the dots, inspire intrigue and present further learning opportunities!

05.02.2022 where racing air meets the top of the trees there live the yesterdays thoughts Haiku by Ba Huu Vo ... It is so important to incorporate writing, poetry and stories within your RPM journey - not only to enrich the mind but to foster creativity and present opportunities to express thoughts and ideas in a different way. This haiku was written by a young man called Ba Huu during an RPM session we had in Perth a few weeks ago

22.01.2022 Rapid Prompting Method (RPM) is an education based program for persons with autism or similar disorders. Autism is a developmental disorder. Autism can result in challenges across areas such as communication, language, social interactions, motor skills and sensory sensitivities. At times, it might appear as though someone with autism is not actively listening or engaging with their surroundings. Often these beliefs are based on surface level observations made from the individ...ual’s actions. For example, a lack of eye contact, loud vocal sounds or seemingly random movements around a room. While these actions might present as unfocused or meaningless, they are not necessarily a reliable indication of the person’s attention, interest or understanding. RPM was first developed by Soma Mukhopadhyay as a means to teach her son, Tito, who has autism. Years later, RPM is now used across the globe by parents, teachers and other professionals to encourage learning for those with autism. In an RPM session, students participate in a 1:1 lesson with a tutor. There are 4 different learning channels; visual, auditory, tactile and kinaesthetic. The tutor works to engage the student’s open learning channel, for example the auditory or visual learning channel, being aware that while it might appear that the student is not engaging visually with the topic, perhaps they are listening or vice verse. Within the lessons the tutor also works to activate the reasoning part of the brain. This can be done by providing multiple answers to a question and helping students make a logical choice. Through the use of factual information and the assistance of prompts, students begin to build and develop their fine motor skills. This then increases accuracy and the ability to spell and communicate their answers. RPM is a tailored service. Each lesson is adapted to meet the needs and capabilities of the student. There are no prerequisites for starting your RPM journey. In using RPM, our goal is to enrich minds, share knowledge and build on key life skills such as meaningful communication, reading and writing. It is our hope that, by engaging in RPM sessions, each student will grow their levels of comprehension, independence and further develop relationships within their families, friendship circles and communities. For more detailed information on RPM, visit the HALO website at www.halo-soma.org To find out more or book in an initial complimentary session with us, check out our website www.rapidpromptingmethodaustralia.com.au
