24.01.2022 Introducing newcomers to the work of some of our marvellous artists. As a natural extension of our work with charcoal, we have in our midst spectacular, internationally-renowned woodturner Guilio Marcolongo.
24.01.2022 Artist Sue Gilford in her Agnes studio pondering gourds shes grown in her garden. Once theyve dried (it can take a couple of years) she turns them into exquisite works using pyrography and paint. We have some superb examples at the gallery.

20.01.2022 Introducing newcomers to the work of some of our earth-pigment painters. This is me ha ha ha..
19.01.2022 Star power at Rare Earth on Sunday: alpha artists Guilio Marcolongo and Sue Gilford. What these two have in common: limitless talent, prodigious energy, disarming humility. Two of Natures gentlepeople.
18.01.2022 Progress... We've decided to have a pop-up Open Day at the gallery to coincide with the terrific annual Toora Pear Party on Sunday 8 March (Labour Day weekend). The Red Pig bakery site next door (the gallery building is the former baker's shop) will also be open for inspection 10am- 3pm. The whole complex - bakery/cafe/gallery - will hopefully be operating commercially by the end of the year. Watch out for pop-up events at the gallery though. It's a beautiful space and we hope to have people in occasionally before the official opening. CLEMENT, THE BAKERY'S RED WESSEX SADDLEBACK PIGLET, WILL BE MAKING HIS FIRST APPEARANCE AMONG THE GENERAL PUBLIC .
18.01.2022 Toora. Terrific.
17.01.2022 Saved this up until today . Not only did Port Albert local Kerryn Leak volunteer to help at the bakery/gallery Open Day on Sunday ... She turned up (we hadnt met before the day) with this gift that she had MADE ... even the pig!! The shell was sand and PVA - a tribute to the gallery; the green was to honour the emerald hills of Toora; and the dreaming pig was, well, Clement . Lets all loudly applaud those amongst us who use their time and creativity for the good of others . If youre thinking you might like your very own Clement lookalike, stay posted ... were working on it!
16.01.2022 Sue Gilford (photography on gourd and melaleuca stick) + Anne Roussac-Hoyne (earth pigment painting). See more at our pop-up Open Day this Sunday, 10-3.
16.01.2022 Gourds drying in Sue Gilford's studio. They're glorious in their natural state, and Sue builds on their natural beauty with her skilled pyrography.
14.01.2022 Gourd Story. The beginnings of Sue Gilford's extraordinary pyrography pieces.
14.01.2022 Man At Work at work . Bassist John Rees from the legendary Australian band called in to see the bakery and Rare Earth Studio Gallery yesterday and gave me s...ome very professional advice about the idiosyncratic acoustics. John is another shining example of my growing conviction that the most talented people are almost always the humblest. See more

12.01.2022 Lots of Toora business gets transacted on the street, and we love it that way! Hilary Skelton (Prom Coast Ice Cream and Sorbet) and Mauzie Maureen Chau (Mauzies Most Marvellous Vintage) discuss NYD IN TOORA in front of what will one day be Rare Earth Studio Gallery.

09.01.2022 We all know that the Royal Standard Hotel in Toora was one of five national winners in the recent Airbnb Country Pub Project. As well as $50,000 in cold hard fo...r renovations to guest rooms and bathrooms, Airbnb is offering support and promotion, and theyve made a great start with this YouTube video about the project. Youll see snippets of Amy (looking great in green), the hotel and Toora, where the old Co-op Store clearly (and unsurprisingly!) caught the eye of the art director. From next week on Channel 7 an ad focussing specifically on Toora will be aired. Who would have thought? Thanks to everyone who nominated the hotel and helped to make this happen! See more

01.01.2022 Last week Sue Gilford, artist extraordinaire, took on the task of untangling the stainless steel wires that form part of our hanging system. Tried to keep them separate when we packed up YEPgallery, but ...
01.01.2022 Introducing newcomers to the work of some of our marvellous artists. When Foster jeweller Lisa Barham-Lomax was prepared to experiment with natural earth pigments as colouring agents we were delighted. And when she came up with resin pieces like these, we were even MORE delighted!
