24.01.2022 Happy 3rd Birthday to RASAID! The staff of Participate Australia hosted a barbeque on Sunday for the families of RASAID residents. The celebration of the third anniversary of our residents moving into their own homes was enjoyed by all. ... Carpark Cricket was a highlight of the ball games while music played on the jukebox for those relaxing in the common room. The lunch of sausages, chicken kebabs, a selection of salads, fruit salad and home-made cupcakes was delicious! Speeches by Erika and some of the residents Rachel, Sarah, Chris E, Natalie and Justin were a highlight. Grateful thanks to staff from the parents and siblings for the social event, and especially for the excellent care of our loved ones! See more
22.01.2022 RASAID Open House - Sunday 24th November 2019 from 1pm until 4pm. 14-16 Smalls Road, Ryde, 2112 ... All welcome!!! This intentional community for people with intellectual disability was designed by families to meet the needs of the present residents. We are proud to showcase all the design features which make these homes functional now and into the future, as well as a beautiful place to live. We invite families to come along to see what might be possible for their own loved-one’s housing needs. Parents and residents will be delighted to show you around and chat over a cup of tea or coffee.
20.01.2022 A highlight of the year at RASAID is preparing for Christmas. Covid rules dictated only a few people could help put up the trees this year but residents and mums all had fun. We finished the afternoon with a refreshing fruit platter before driving home in the stifling heat. Happy decorating folks!
20.01.2022 Thank you!!! Rasaid would like to thank Winning Appliances and Appliances Online for their thoughtfulness and generosity!! They recently donated a new dishwasher and a new dryer to Rasaid (Ryde Area Supported Accommodation for Intellectually Disabled) to assist the five residents living in the five-bedroom house. ... The residents and the support staff are incredibly grateful. Both the dryer and the dishwasher are such crucial tools in maintaining hygiene particularly now with COVID-19. As you can see Carmel and Christopher are very happy and their support staff are too!!
15.01.2022 Shout out to all our friends, family and followers. We hope you are well, and that you have come through the lock-down with your sanity and good humour intact. RASAID residents have so far weathered the Covid-19 storm very well due to the extraordinary efforts of our staff in keeping everyone safe. Staff members have diligently supported residents with social distancing and hand-washing, and putting so much extra effort into cleaning and sanitising all the homes. Most importa...ntly staff have shown tremendous patience in reinforcing explanations for these strange new conditions by which residents have to abide. We are most grateful to each and every one of them! To keep everyone occupied "Social Distancing Bingo" is just one of the diversions staff introduced to the RASAID residents during pandemic lock-down. Birthdays have come and gone with minimal fuss which is difficult for these very social people! They love their parties. Hopefully next year will see fewer restrictions and more social opportunities. Residents are slowly, slowly starting to emerge from their protective restrictions, although ready to hunker down again should a second wave emerge. We are also thankful to each and every one of you - and the general public - who have taken measures to protect not only your own families but the precious lives of people who are much more vulnerable. Stay safe and remain alert and cautious! It's not over until it's over...... See more
15.01.2022 It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at RASAID!!!!
15.01.2022 Chris was thrilled for the opportunity to volunteer at the 2018 Invictus Games along with his friend Louisa.
15.01.2022 It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at RASAID! Residents, staff, parents and even nieces and nephews joined in the decorating fun!
12.01.2022 Music fans from RASAID had a great time at the Ryde/Eastwood Leagues Club with Dean Bourne beautifully invoking the music of Roy Orbison. What a voice! It could have been Roy on that stage! Dean kindly joined us for a few happy snaps giving the guys a chance to say how much they enjoyed the show. ... We’ll be back at the club soon for the Beatles.
11.01.2022 Farewell to Robbie RASAID residents love a party, but Sunday’s celebration was tinged with sadness as we said farewell to Robbie who has moved to another house. During her speech, President Megan Poole thanked Robbie’s mum, Marilyn Jones for her 15 years of dedication to the project. ... Not only was Marilyn an extraordinary honorary secretary for most of that time, she was an excellent record-keeper who was able to lay her hands on documents we needed with only the subject as a clue! Dick and Marilyn were always on site when there was a job to do, working in the garden and helping with upkeep on working bees. All the residents and staff miss Robbie’s gentle presence, wicked giggles and his talent playing the organ. We look forward to seeing the Jones family regularly in the future at celebrations and community events.
10.01.2022 RASAID enjoys a particularly strong connection with the Rotary Club of Macquarie Park whose members have been extremely supportive over many years. It was these connections which found us the land upon which RASAID is built and many of the extras the residents enjoy have been bought through Rotary fundraising. Some of these extras are actually essentials to everyone else like washing machines and transport! ... Rotary, through Roseanna Gallo OAM, have made sure people with disabilities can be safely and comfortably included in community activities like the Carols on the Common. The RASAID residents very much enjoy these outings each year! At the annual changeover dinner this week we acknowledged and thanked the outgoing committee led by Trina Phillips and welcomed in the new committee led by incoming President Lydia Scuglia (pictured here with the RASAID representatives). Thank you for another great night out!
08.01.2022 Residents, their families and the staff get together every year to celebrate Christmas. Families take great pleasure in thanking the staff who support their fam...ily members. Our support workers have found a happy balance between being dedicated professionals and compassionate companions to the residents. To us they are family. See more
08.01.2022 Wishing our friends, families and followers a very happy, healthy and safe festive season.
08.01.2022 Two weeks ago, Natalie was thrilled and honoured to receive an Encouragement Award at a special morning tea as a part of the City of Ryde art show. Natalie, along with her friends from her day program at Araluen, were also invited to exhibit their art at the City of Ryde Art Society 58th Annual Art Exhibition. Wow, well done Natalie. What an achievement!
07.01.2022 A great day to celebrate Chris’ 34th Birthday! Happy Birthday for tomorrow Chris, thanks for the pizza party!
04.01.2022 Christmas Craft has become an annual tradition at RASAID enjoyed by residents, staff and families. ... This year we made colourful paper chains to decorate the common room!
04.01.2022 Thanks to the generous funding provided by the state government following the combined efforts of The Hon Gladys Berejiklian MP Premier of NSW, The Hon Victor Dominello MP Member for Ryde and Margaret Lee Office of Member for Ryde - RASAID has been fortunate to have been able to purchase this stunning piece of musical equipment. The advantages of musical therapy further enhance cognitive skills, emotional communication as well enable self expression. As demonstrated in the video you can see our Robbie, along with his friends and family, enjoying the benefits of the beautiful ‘Swirl’ chimes.
03.01.2022 Chris E and Chris P and friends having fun at the park!
03.01.2022 The NSW Disability Inclusion Act 2014 is under review. If you would like to have your say there is an online questionnaire to fill out. 02.01.2022 Our annual Christmas craft day was so much fun! Our dear friend Ria from Pinta Crafts brought her ceramics to RASAID and helped us paint Christmas themed items. Look what we made: tree decorations and Santa mugs. Photos are before and after firing. Everyone was thrilled with the final results. Thank you Ria. The residents have asked for you to return soon for another session. Go to Ria's web page for full info about ceramic art. www.pintacrafts.com.au
02.01.2022 RASAID residents often attend and very much enjoy events at local clubs. Shout out to the Ryde/Eastwood Leagues Club who are so accommodating with special requests for seating even though David never actually sits on a seat! ... Kerrie, who looks after the auditorium door and seating the guests, is always friendly, kind and patient when we visit. Thanks Kerrie! This is how David enjoyed the Mental As Anything show this week behind closed doors in the bar! He loves music and loves The Mentals! but it was a bit too loud for him. This is a big improvement as it wasn’t that long ago he would just take off if he was anxious or otherwise out of his depth. So, well done David, and thank you to staff at the club. We always feel welcome. Keep up the great work promoting Australian music!!
02.01.2022 Support worker Mark enabled David's attendance at the Rare Disease Day event at Sanofi headquarters hosted by Genetic Alliance Australia and SWAN Australia (Syndromes Without A Name). After delicious snacks, speakers addressed the large crowd - families affected by genetic conditions, doctors, nurses and genetic counsellors - with the focus on the evening's theme of "Reframe Rare". Personal stories highlighted the fact that it's motivated families who bring about change. Pictures are: 1. David with Mark & 2. Three of the presenters - Lucinda Freeman (Genetic Counsellor, Mackenzie's Mission), Sam Humphrey (Actor) and Jan Mumford (ED, Genetic Alliance).
