24.01.2022 Recently 6 people from our VIC/Museum joined with others from around the Scenic Rim on a fact finding expedition to the Museum and State Library at South Bank. We had a brief time to look at displays but spent most of the day behind the scenes where the preservation and storage of items takes place. Photo 3 - the scene from a window in the Library. We were leaving for home just as the big storm broke.

24.01.2022 More recent photos of the displays in the VIC shop

21.01.2022 The Rathdowney School held a fete on Easter Saturday. Once again it was a great day. One of the highlights of the day was the wild life display. Louise and Al brought their birds, animals and reptiles for everyone to admire and stroke. The monster raffle with patrons putting their tickets into a box in front of the prize that they would like to win was a great idea. There were 15 plus happy winners! Many, many visitors to the camping grounds came along to enjoy themselves and the kids put the adventure playground to good use.The inclement weather held off for the day but it poured that night.

20.01.2022 Another great day at the Information Centre On Sunday. Volunteers spent a busy day both in the Centre itself and as part of the Eat Local promotion. The sausage sizzle ran out of sausages and the tasting table as usual was a great hit. The fresh produce, baking, coffee can, market stalls and meat truck all had good sales. The live music from BrokeNBones provided a real carnival atmosphere for the visitors to the Centre. The weather could not have been better. A bright sunny day that was also enjoyed by families picknicing in the park and playground. In the meantime, a charity campdraft was being held in the Memorial Grounds. Cars and motor bikes lined Collins Street all day - it was a busy day in Rathdowney.

Also four of our hard working committee members Maxine, June, Margaret and Cathy planning the tactics for supper time. It was a hot, hot night but thoroughly enjoyed by all those there. We were treated to a natural fireworks display to the west and east of Rathdowney as we headed for home.

15.01.2022 Last Wednesday the Australian Classic Scooters Mille came to town. This was the first outing held in Queensland and the 5th in Australia. Most scooters were from the late 50s to the 70s. Their object was to travel 1000ks in 2 days. 32 riders started from Brisbane but 19 didnt finish (All 4 girl riders did!) Fantastic scenery and challenging winding roads.

15.01.2022 Christmas has come to the Centre. Our Christmas Tree has been set up near the entrance of the Centre and Christmas Greeting over the big window. See the lovely Australian bird hanging decorations that are great on a tree or during the rest of the year at a window. Some gift ideas for the children a stuffed locally made owl pillow and for the family a bottle of Verjuice (non alcoholic). Produced near Boonah - does great things to a glass of lemonade or sparkling water, also in a casserole or as a salad dressing. Christmas greetings to all. Have a safe and happy one.

14.01.2022 a couple of weeks ago there was a fire threat in the district along with the fact that there had been virtually no rain for months. this past week has seen Rathdowney and surrounding areas receive, in some areas, up to 250mm. The paddocks have suddenly turned from brown to emerald green.

13.01.2022 The Rathdowney Sub-Branch of the RSL held its annual Anzac Day Parade and Service on Saturday the 25th. Over 450 people attended the Centenary Service. The march was led by two mounted Light horse men bearing Australian Flags and the Schools Drum and Fife Band. Ex-Servicemen and children from Rathdowney, Hillview and Tamrookum Primary Schools and the Beaudesert High School were followed by members of the Rathdowney Pony Club. Thank you to the RSL for providing gazebos... and many chairs for the comfort of those attending. Thank you also to the ladies of the Bowls Club who once again provided eats for the many who gathered after the service to enjoy a cuppa and chat. There was a wonderful moment (or really three) when as the school band entered through the Memorial Gate the crowd burst into applause and again after the school girls Belynda and Taleesha finished their readings during the Service. See more

05.01.2022 Anzac Service at Rathdowney. 25th April 2016. Thanks to the past band members who dusted off their fifes and came to swell the numbers. We are so grateful. Lest we Forget.

04.01.2022 Santa parked his sled over in the Memorial Grounds (so I am told) and the local Fire Brigade Boys to him and a huge sack bag of lollies around the streets of Rathdowney (there arent many so they did them all.) It really was a treat and hugely enjoyed by everyone.

03.01.2022 The spirits of the 50 plus people who went to the VIC on Sunday afternoon to welcome our new policeman and his family were not dampened by the rain that fell before and during the event. There were many contributions to the afternoon tea table and the committee of RADHA would like to thank all those who did so. After coming from Jerico the Williams family are finding that our little corner of the beautiful Scenic Rim is a green paradise! We wish them a happy association with the people of Rathdowney. Joel has alread had some excitement. There was much activity in Collins Street last Friday when the ambulance was called to attend to a truck driver who fortunately realised that, unfortunately, he was having a major health problem.

01.01.2022 Lunchtime at the store in Rathdowney last Friday. How often do you see horses at the hitching rail these days?

01.01.2022 The week-end of 17/18/19 of April was another big week-end for Rathdowney. The Memorial Grounds Committee hosted what turned out to be a very successful camp-draft. Competitors came from near and far to enjoy their sport on a well prepared oval with well conditioned cattle. If the rain had held off for another hour or two on Sunday it would have been perfect. With about an hour of competition left, down came the rain. However, it did not deter the riders and luckily no one came to grief. Another great week-end!
