17.01.2022 Wings were waving, tutus were sparkling and the chicks were flying at Redlands Track Park today. A massive thanks to the 130 riders, all the supporters and the fabulous sponsors and suppliers. We were lucky to have Deputy Mayor Julie Talty, State MP Kim Richards and Councillor Peter Mitchell along for the juniors in the morning. Good people supporting MTB! Lots of pics of the race and podiums to follow, but for now, two special thanks:... - to all the riders for your patience with our timing connection issues. We hope to have full results up as soon as we can connect the tracking box to a PC; and - to the literally dozens of volunteers, from emcee-extraordinaire Andrew, to RATS Cafe manager Wayne and his team (including Barry from Toowoomba who helped at the last minute), to the set up, rego, parking and race marshals to timing, trailcare and admin. It’s a big effort over many months to put this together, but it’s incredibly rewarding to see all the smiling, sweaty, dusty, exhausted, content faces at the end. 08.01.2022 NEW SITE We're getting excited! CITS Open Day is next weekend and we're finalising loops for the courses this weekend, and getting our chicken, unicorn and llama costumes prepped In another bit of exciting news - CITS has a NEW HOME BASE for 2020, as our event village was unexpectedly unavailable. We will be riding from a base at the western end of Long Street, Cleveland (map attached).... On the day you will drive as far west as you can on Long St (off Wellington St), beyond the usually closed entry gate (picture attached). This will take you a few hundred metres up a firetrail, where a marshal will direct you to park. Then a short walk to the smell of coffee, the spin of wheels and the cutest little event village you'll see. Detail will be followed up in the rider briefing late next week. 07.01.2022 **** NEW ADDRESS: MUST READ **** 2020 sees CITS move to a new site (and despite our best efforts, FB keeps reverting our address back to an old site). We are entering the event village on the LONG STREET, CLEVELAND, fireroad (not the bitumen section of Long St). ... On the day you will drive as far west as you can on Long St (which runs west off Wellington St, between Weippin St and Coburg St West). You will drive past a usually closed entry gate (picture attached). This will take you a few hundred metres up a firetrail, where a marshal will direct you to park. On Sunday, the entry will be bunted and marshalled to risk manage the crossing over a pedestrian/bike path. Look for the orange and blue balloons too. Please also be aware residents along the right hand side of the fireroad and near the event village are not all happy at our attendance, and be respectful of people and property (we know you will be!). 06.01.2022 SAD NEWS: POSTPONE Chicks in the Sticks has made the hard decision to postpone the 2020 Open Day to a date still to be decided. Todays immediate restrictions mean gatherings of more than 10 are banned without a COVIDSafe plan. While RATS Cycling Club has one - just because we can, doesnt mean we should.... Social distancing can be difficult at trailheads, and in a group of happy, excited riders. We are aware some riders (and some ride leaders) will likely prefer not to attend, and so we choose to postpone, keep everyone safe, and ride again another day. We apologise for the late notice, but this helps keep everyone in the community safe.
