23.01.2022 Re-packing old rodent show trophies. Thought I would take a pic before they go back into a box. From the left is my first ever show that I entered in 2002 with the NSWFRMC at the Castle Hill Show. Placed Champion Rat with my boy Rattikins Rollie, a cinnamon Self Standard coat boy. Great Memories! Spanning from 2002 to 2007, where I then took a break away from showing, but continued with breeding.

12.01.2022 Great day at the NSW Fancy Rodent Society show today! I went with 6 rat bums entered into classes and 5 of them placed! My best 2 place getters being Blazing Tails Coconut Cream, (AKA The Fob) in Comformation, and Rattikins Black Ice in Kitten.

12.01.2022 It is healthy to make your rat work for its meal. Food does not simply apear in a bowl for them in the wild. They have to forage and hunt for it, as well as develope skills in learning how to negotiate challenging situations.

09.01.2022 Dumbo Rats!!! Are NOT available in Australia. Are NOT an Australian variety. Are ILLEGAL to have in Australia... Australia has strict quaruntine laws that prevent importing rodents from overseas. Overseas varieties do NOT occur naturally in Australia, and any overseas varieties of rodents found on Australian soil are generally smuggled into the country illegally. There are heavy fines, and possible gaol terms as well as illegally imported animals found are destroyed by Biosecurity. They will find you, trust me. They pose a major threat to the biosecurity of Australia when smuggled in illegally, as well as a major threat to our existing Australian rat breeds and fancy, as they have a high potential to bring diseases with them that we do not have in this country. Dumbo is a recessive cranial deformity that is desired because people think its cute Apreciate what we have as we already have so many amazing breeds of rats in Australia already.

04.01.2022 So, here are a couple of pics of some rats. All are about the same age. The pic of two, are girls. The pic of 4, are boys.... The girls pictured are a Silk and a Selkirk. Both heterozygous for thier coat breeds. The boys that are pictured are a Standard, a Silk, a Selkirk and a Satin. Again, all are heterozygous. The Satin is suspected UK Satin, which use to also go by a couple of other names of Newcastle Silk and Cotten Silk. It isn't Silk though, not in the slightest. It is commonly misidentified and mixed in quite a few Patchwork combinations labelled as Rex/Silk. Unfortunately, the Selkirk suffers the same problems as the Satin, being misidentified and incorrectly labelled a Rex/Silk Patchwork. Also is mixed in throughout a majority of Rex/Silk patchwork combinations for that very reason. The thing is, Selkirk and Satin Patchwork too! What is special is they both patchwork naked in thier first molt as heterozygous. So the lesson to this is do not ever just assume that because it seems similar to what you think a coat breed is, that that is what it is. Also, there are very few breeders that are experienced in all the coat breeds, that can actually identify them all correctly, including the mixed breeds. Do not assume that curly whiskers means Rex, and a shiny coat means Silk, because you would likely be wrong. Feel free to have a punt as to which rat is which coat breed. See if you get it right
