23.01.2022 LinkedIn needs to be very cautious here. Long term users are already complaining that the site is tending towards standard social media rather than useful business content.

22.01.2022 Retail landlords will murder their golden goose if they don't help retail strips survive. Retail shopfronts will become stranded assets as few bright young things are looking to start NEW bricks & mortar. There are only so many uses for a shopfront on Chapel Street ...

21.01.2022 This would be a HUGE game changer, if only more than 10% of the market used Bing as a search engine. We would suggest that overlaying this targeting on Microsoft DISPLAY should actually work best for top of funnel. You'll get ultra cheap clicks that are not dependent on the user being on one specific search engine actively searching for your product/service, and can build a solid audience for REMARKETING, building lookalike/similar audiences, etc.

20.01.2022 BREAKING: Google has today released a new Analytics Platform with enhanced AI and multi-platform measurement. But it's a BIG change, and as of this morning wasn't properly copying old property settings. Our advice is "priceed SLOWLY"

19.01.2022 As the future of on-street parking on Sydney Rd is hotly contested, here are the results of the changes made by Port Phillip Council to pedestrianise Acland St. And they clearly show the benefits to retail businesses of pedestrianising their retail environment. Once again, small businesses that oppose pedeestrianisation measures are turkeys voting for Christmas. "Pedestrian counts indicate that the works have affected the concentration of pedestrian movement throughout the d...ay, with reduced activity in the mornings and increased activity on weekends, in the weekday afternoons and into the evenings." "The Acland Street Village Precinct experienced greater growth in local spending than benchmarked regions. Total spending grew at around $330,000 or 1.5% per month. This compared favourably with the modest upward trend, around 0.2% per month, in the benchmarked regions."

18.01.2022 We get asked about this A LOT - "Should I build my website in Wix or Wordpress?" Now, it should be said that hands down, Wix has the lower learning curve - it's MUCH easier for someone with no experience in website design to get a website up, running and looking effective enough for the job with Wix. But it is one of the worst possible decisions you can make for your small business, and extracting yourself from that decision can be EXTREMELY COSTLY - to the point where you ...are one day going to be recommended to start another new website over again completely from scratch (because Wix websites are NOT portable to other platforms). The nub of it is that, in spite of the work the platform has done to try and improve ... WIX IS BAD FOR SEO, and the core reasons are laid out in this article. And with Wordpress' market share at around 40%, you can be almost assured that your competitors who ARE on Wordpress are starting out at a significant advantage to you in the FREE TRAFFIC stakes that will be difficult to overcome, even with the world's greatest content and backlinking strategies. And all those folks on Wordpress all have access to the world's largest database of plugins to add really any functionality to their sites in a modular and expandable fashion that Wix can never hope to compete with. "Should I build my website in Wix or Wordpress?" There has only ever been one answer to that question ....

18.01.2022 This is really sad to see, not least because it's apparently in part driven by kids eschewing arts & crafts for electronic toys.

17.01.2022 "Instagram notes that the option will only be available to new Instagram advertisers in the US and Turkey at this stage."?!?!?!?! That's a seriously weird roll-out schedule ... and while it's probably welcome for new advertisers, probably everyone advertising on Insta has already created their "Enforced" facebook page? Here's hoping this makes connecting Instagram to 3rd party schedulers in some way less complex than dancing the Pasa Doble in future ...

16.01.2022 Reopening may still be a couple of weeks of for Melbourne retailers, but its important people are aware how much buying patterns have changed under lokdown. Up to 50% of consumers are now planning to spend more online in future, and nearly 80% of purchases are happening on MOBILE devices. Importantly for Victorian retailers, people have been amping up their online research IN THE WEEKS IMMEDIATELY BEFORE THE END OF LOCKDOWN. This means that your future clients are on your website RIGHT NOW on their mobile phone, and planning their next purchase. Being ready tomorrow is too late. You need to have your online game maximal and fit for purpose TODAY,

16.01.2022 BREAKING: Australian Watchdog ACCC launches court proceedings against Google over the use of consumer data to improve its advertising performance - Mumbrella Daily. It's going to come down to a question of whether Google adequately explained what was a fairly technical change to how it combined user data with data from other sources in order to deliver more tailored advertising on the Google Ads platform.

16.01.2022 In B2B? And have you (like many) been finding LinkedIn an advertising desert, that's because it's one of the hardest social media platforms to get users to actually leave. LinkedIn have finally begun to address this, allowing users to now run remarketing ads to audiences that have previously interacted with their ad content on the platform. How to use this? One great approach would be running an in-depth introducer video, and then remarketing to everyone who has watched 75% o...r more with a killer, time-limited offer, so you get an already warm audience being given a reason why they need to take action NOW. This is an already-proven model for ecommerce on Facebook, and B2B marketers would be well advised to consider the potential here.

15.01.2022 This is a MAJOR bone of contention. Australian small business getting dragged through US Courts because some clever dick thought to Trademark a brand that's been an Aussie icon and in common usage since FOREVER. Damn these people. US big business now trying to use its heft to bully small players so it can be allowed to continue monopolist rent seeking on intellectual property it did nothing whatsoever to build. Pls sign the petition>

14.01.2022 What alternate universe are news media living in that they think this proves anything other than Google makes NO revenue from having your news articles in search results, but YOU make $$ from the traffic! The suggested Federal code, which is bizarrely supported across the political spectrum (excepting the coalition culture warriors want to exclude the ABC), is the most horrendous case of CORPORATE RENT SEEKING that has ever had an advocate anywhere in the Federal Parliament. ...This is some bizarre sort of "corporate socialism", the suggestion that news media should be able to DOUBLE-DIP on the traffic that Google and Facebook send it for free (by including mere SNIPPETS of those articles in search results), and from which they already derive their advertising revenue. Why should news websites be the only websites that get paid like this? The proposed laws are completely unethical, completely antideluvian, and it's seriously bizarre that Federal politicians are still so on the teat of the traditional news media that not a single one of them has raised even one solitary voice in protest.

14.01.2022 This is fascinating. Google has NO PRODUCT at all, if it loses its search engine crown. That's why Google USED to be so paranoid about optimal user experience. And "Do no evil" came from that ethos. But today, as the platform keeps devoting more and more of the search reults real estate to advertising, and indeed blurring the boundary between paid and organic content in results, it's clear they are now simply resorting to traditional hard monopolist tactics to achieve the sam...e. Did YOU know they were paying Apple billions every year just to remain #1 search engine on iOS devices? They may well succeed. But they are also now losing the goodwill of advertisers by inappropriately incentivising their reps to promote automated bidding strategies whose first impact on adoption is usually simply to start handing more $$$ to Google, and now the process of removing search query data from ads results, equally giving advertisers less of the tools they need to effectively do better for their paying clients than Google's automation is capable of. Google needs to be careful, because if the ground ever shifted, it would shift seismically and quickly. Myspace of course being the salutory lesson here. #ppc #digitalmarketing #google #apple #SEO #SEM #advertising #marketing

10.01.2022 Aussie business? How much have you invested in your SEO, Google Ads, and Google My Business performance lately? This Federal government want to make sure that all that spend has been WASTED by forcing Google out of the market. https://ab.co/3oejkZE #auspol #ausbiz

08.01.2022 How utterly unsurprising to learn that "landlords are not negotiating in the spirit of government policy" that urges a shared burden of reduced rents for struggling retailers. The government needs to step in here. The recovery is going to be tough enough without Landlords locking retailers out of their stores.

07.01.2022 Make no mistake, SMS marketing DONE WELL can be highly effective, particularly for driving attendance at in-store events. But get it WRONG and you can seriously damage your brand. That means making CERTAIN you get proper opt-in from customers, and that you use it in a targeted way - you need to know enough about your clients (and in a structured way within your CRM) to know exactly what matters to them.

06.01.2022 Catch.com.au is one of the lesser known but higher potential brands in the Wesfarmers stable, but rest assured they've done very nicely throughout COVID-19, and under the stewardship of this seemingly savvy gent (complete with Amazon background), I'd suggest are very well positioned for growth (although a bit bizarre to have tis brand sit under bricks and mortar Kmart stores) in the new post-covid retail environment.

05.01.2022 It's completely absurd for traditional media players to suggest Google and Facebook should be "paying for news" that remains largely consumed on those news organisations' websites. The net result is of course monetisable traffic for those news organisations. Facebook doesn't make money through users sharing news on the platform, instead users share "content" from a wide variety of sources and Facebook rewards the best content with lots of free and yet monetisable traffic. Facebook makes money by ensuring this an engaging environment for users to come to and running ads at themwhile they are there. This whole proposal is absurd

05.01.2022 This is no big deal, as the 28 day window routinely returned hot garbage that said Facebook was the greatest ads platform ever devised. And bringing the window more into line with Google Analytics will mean fewer clients asking me "why doesn't my analytics data match my Facebook data?", which can hardly hurt ...

04.01.2022 The ACCC's model for forcing Facebook and Google to profit share with news organisations, given the amount of FREE TRAFFIC that BOTH push to ALL news platforms, and given the news organisations themselves are still free to run advertising on their own sites, is completely unconscionable, and treats the actual consumer of news media AS THE COMMODITY instead of a rights holder. It's a bit like the last hurrah for the old media dinosaurs and a completely outdated model for viewing media consumption.

04.01.2022 This is ONE WAY to do it. The simplest way for sure. But we strongly recommend that you should be hosting ALL your tracking code/conversion pixels through Google Tag Manager. Especially if you are running multiple ad platforms, running your tags through Tag Manager versus individually on your site WILL speed up your website. And once you've gone that far, you can track some VERY complex and sophisticated interactions. For instance, a lot of pro facebook advertisers will actua...lly DELAY their pixel firing for a period of say 5-15 seconds, so you wind up EXCLUDING all the people who don't stay on your website long enough to perform or digest anything meaningful. You can't do this via Facebook Pixel Events. You NEED Tag Manager to achieve this. Hit us up, if you need any pointers, we love tricky tag manager challenges #NERD

03.01.2022 Australians' lack of Asian language skills in general has been a critical failure of our education system for DECADES. And it's more pitiful the virtually non-existent amount of education our kids get into Asian histories, cultures, etc. outside of language classes. It's almost like we cannot discern the global trends that have been advantaging our neighbourhood for decades, OR we aren't interested in strategically transitioning in order to even pursue obvious national intere...st OR even WORSE, it IS a little bit as if we either don't know what neigbourhood we live in, or we image we are still in Europe somehow. We are NOT. We desparately need a more sophsticated relationship with China in particular, and it is BRUTALLY clear that the casual instinctive racists who helm our Federal Government are never going to get us there. Australia's "quiet racism" makes us our own worst enemies.

03.01.2022 They're a long way from having their advertising game anywhere near facebook's, but Pinterest seems insistent on continuing to innovate, paticularly in the e-commerce space. If you are in ecommerce, you have a highly visual product, and particularly if your market skews towards a female demograpic, it's definitely worth sticking a toe or two in the platform's waters.

02.01.2022 If you're not using Google's Discovery campaigns, then you are leaving a TONNE of super-cheap well-qualified clicks on the table. They are the little secret that even many seasoned Google Ads marketers (most of whom have their head obsessively stuck in the Search Marketing sand paying $10/click instead of 10c.) are simply not across the potential of. Give Discovery Ads a go, but just remember where you heard it FIRST!
