23.01.2022 I am a blessed mum. But I also grieve the loss of what could have been and the loss of my own mum. For me Mothers Day is a day of exquisite emotions of joy, appreciation, love and deep loss. I understand if this day is also difficult for you. #Ravae acupuncture #ravae Chinese Medicine #mothers day #you are not alone #MadeWithRipl via ripl.com

23.01.2022 Sleep changes during lock down from a Western biomedical and Chinese Medicine perspective. Chinese Medicine views the sleep-wake cycle as a dynamic physiological process relating to the waxing and waning of Yin and Yang, the circulation of Qi and the movement of the Shen (spirit). In order to be healthy and free of dis-ease one should live their lives according to the changes in the seasons and the day to night cycle. During the day when Yang is abundant one’s eyes are open ...and they are awake and active, during the night when Yin is abundant and one’s eyes are closed they are still and asleep. Sleep disturbances can occur due to an imbalance between the natural Yin & Yang cycles or due to disturbances of the Spirit, which is referred to as the Shen. The Shen in Chinese Medicine refers to mental functions, thought and consciousness which keep the mind active and alert during the day. In accordance with our natural rhythms (or circadian cycle) the Shen settles into the heart organ channel to rest and recharge at night. Sleep disturbances such as insomnia, excessive dreaming and restlessness can occur when the mind and body are out of sync with our natural waking and sleeping cycles or when the Shen becomes unsettled due to physical stress, anxiety and excessive emotions. 20.01.2022 What is Postnatal Depletion? In his book The Postnatal Depletion Cure, Doctor Oscar Serrallach shares his years of clinical experience and describes how many mothers experience chronic symptoms such as brain fog, poor memory, lethargy, insomnia, hyper-vigilance, low libido and feelings of frustration, guilt and shame postnatally. It is commonly believed that postnatal period is the 12 months following birth but as Dr. Serrallach states the peak incidence of postnatal deple...tion actually occurs four years post birth. There is a common expectation in our modern world that mothers should bounce straight back post birth. We are bombarded with images of celebrities and Instagram influencers flouting their post birth bodies and it is common for new mothers to focus on getting their pre-pregnancy body back rather than focusing on rest, recovery and connection with their baby. Yes, pregnancy and child birth is a normal physiological process. But lets not forget that you have grown a human being in nine months which is absolutely amazing and all this growth takes a toll on the mothers mind and body. In fact the mothers pregnancy brain actually shrinks five percent to support the growth of her baby. Dont view this a a decline in intelligence, but rather an upgrade in emotional intelligence as the mothers brain changes and remodels to prepare for her new role as nurturer. The growing baby places huge demands upon the mother and during the third trimester it is impossible to keep up with iron demands via diet alone. Additionally the baby requires a regular supply of energy, fats such as DHA, selenium, B 12, B 9, zinc, iodine and amino acids from proteins to support its development. Obviously the nutritional status of the mother prior to pregnancy will have a huge impact her health during pregnancy and post birth. From a Chinese Medicine perspective pregnancy places extra demands upon the mothers blood and Kidney Qi. A mother who is over worked, (either physically or mentally) or of a more advanced age may experience long term feelings of depletion, exhaustion, brain fog and low mood throughout the years post birth. But dont worry, we can support the mother both pre and postnatally with herbs, nutritional supplements, Acupuncture, dietary and lifestyle advice to aid her body and mind to recover from pregnancy and child birth.

20.01.2022 Happy Year of the Ox. People born during the year of the Ox are hard working, methodical, calm and trustworthy. But can become stubborn and angry if challenged. It is predicted the year ahead will be favourable for economic recovery or consolidation as a result of hard work.

17.01.2022 We are here to support you. The last few days have been confusing and frustrating as the advice from the Victorian Government was unclear and open to many diverse interpretations. But we now have clarification; so as directed by the department of health and human services (DHHS) we closed our doors to face-to-face treatments last night. Additionally our professional associations have declared that we must close for the stage four restrictions. We hope you understand but wit...h fines of $99,132 for businesses and $19,826 for individuals on the line, I think the message is very clear for the health of our community to stay home. As health professionals we know that what we do helps others and is vital to supporting health and well-being. Let me say I am sorry to all of our patients and especially those who have called and texted with genuine concerns regarding their treatment plans. If it was up to us we would remain open (albeit wearing masks, aprons and face shields) to serve and support you during this difficult time. As we did in April we will be offering Online/Telehealth appointments, during these sessions we are able to review your case and tongue, prescribe herbs and supplements, and demonstrate acupressure techniques with the aid of press seeds. We recognise that Online/Telehealth may seem strange for Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine but we have already experienced very positive therapeutic outcomes and feedback from the sessions conducted in April. Research into telehealth states that "...telehealth interventions produce positive outcomes when used for remote patient monitoring,... with improvements in outcomes such as mortality, quality of life, and reductions in hospital admissions" (Totten et al., 2016). Actually, we are really looking forward to seeing your actual faces again (rather than a mask). We are hoping there maybe a change to the closure directions earlier than the six weeks and we will keep you updated when the clinic is ready to recommence person-to-person appointments. In the meantime if you are experiencing stress, anxiety and feeling overwhelmed feel free to reach out with a text or email. We are still here to help.

16.01.2022 It is with a heavy heart that Ash and I have decided to temporarily suspend our person to person treatments at the clinic. Our focus is always about supporting our patients to achieve health, and I believe the best way to do that at this time is to focus on supporting the entire community. I am continuing to offer support to my patients via online video/Telehealth consults. Please check your emails for an update. Please let me know if you want to continue your treatment via Telehealth this week and I can set you up with a link. Stay well Rachael & Ash.

03.01.2022 As we know there are many shades to describe a women’s menstrual flow, ranging from pale red to bright red and on the other end of the spectrum brown. But this is a step in the right direction to acknowledge that 49% of the population have in a time of their lives menstruated and it is not something to be ashamed of.
