02.01.2022 TOTAL FIRE BAN - Tuesday 24/11/20 A Total Fire Ban has been declared by the Department of Fire & Emergency Services for the Shire of Ravensthorpe, Tuesday 24 November 2020 Total Fire Ban commences from midnight Monday 23/11/20 and finishes midnight Tuesday 24/11/20... Forecast Fire Danger Ratings: Ravensthorpe Shire Coast - SEVERE Ravensthorpe Shire Inland - SEVERE What does this mean; For everyone... NO fires in the open air NO camping or solid wood fires are allowed. ONLY Electric or Gas BBQ’s with an oenclosed flame are permitted during the Ban period. Off-road Vehicles, Motorbikes, Trailbikes, Quadbikes, etc. are NOT permitted on bush tracks, bush area’s. NO hot works, welding, angle grinding, gas cutting, etc in the open environment. Mining activities that have approved exemptions under sections 22 & 25 Bush Fires Act 1954 may continue to operate, providing they are operating within the means of their exemptions. Contractors are required to visit the DFES website www.dfes.wa.gov.au/totalfireban to check if your prescribed activities are permitted on days of a Total Fire Ban. For Residents.... Due to the SEVERE Fire Danger Rating; Families and Residents are encouraged to check and/or initiate their Bushfire Survival Plans. If your plan is to leave early let family/friends/neighbours know where you are going, which route you are travelling and what time you will roughly arrive at your destination. If your plan is stay and defend,let family/friends/neighbours know of your plan and where shelter would be. Don’t forgot to have a plan should your kids be stuck at school when a bushfire nearby commences. if you do not have a Bushfire Survival Plan, It’s never too late to sit down and have the 5 minute Fire Chat with your family/room mates. Start planning NOW before your property is impacted by fire. For Farmers.... Agriculture activities can still continue as normal until the Shire imposes a Harvest & Vehicle Movement Ban. This is when the Fire Danger Index reaches 35, if not imposed earlier. If a Harvest & Vehicle Movement Ban is imposed farmers are allowed to travel through paddocks to check the welfare of their livestock ONLY. Farmers must be in a vehicle equipped with a fire unit carrying minimum of 500lt. Penalties do apply for any breaches of the Total Fire Ban, which range from $1,000.00 on the spot fine and either $25,000.00 fine and/or up to 12 months jail if found guilty in a court of law.
