21.01.2022 Tasmania’s fire agencies are ready to respond to any bushfires this season, with the arrival of 11 aircraft from the national fleet which will be in Tasmania fo...r the next couple of months. Aircraft are used in the initial response to bushfires to contain a fire until ground crews arrive. They also gather fireground intelligence from the air and map fires. In addition to our 11 contracted aircraft, we also have local aircraft we can call upon when needed.

20.01.2022 Late start to the fire season. After significant rainfall over the recent weeks Tasmania is largely expecting a late start to the fire season. We have very wet ...to saturated soils and vegetation over most areas of state this will lead to a late onset to the fire season. Coupled with work from the TFS with back burning operations we are in a good place this summer. We can largely expect a normal to below normal fire season early next year 2021 or late December coupled with a wetter spring and summer with the influence of la Nina. We certainly won't see a catastrophic fire season like in 2018/2019 when over 3 percent of the state was burnt. People still need be prepared regardless have a bushfire plan and check it twice. It's really important to clear up land around your property and allow clear access for fire crews. We do have some pockets of the state that are drier than others particularly along the Northeast, east coast and Southeast. This summer is shaping up to be hot and somewhat wet for Tasmania.

19.01.2022 Please, everyone take care on the roads. Your short-cut may lead to our car-cut! Pete

19.01.2022 Tasmania Fire Service requests that landholders avoid lighting fires on their properties for at least the next 24 hours due to forecast severe weather condition...s. Fires in these windy conditions will be difficult to control. Fires that have been lit in the past fortnight should be patrolled as the wind increases, even if they are believed to be extinguished.

16.01.2022 A wise man once said... no battery in your smoke alarm is about as useful as having a dinner plate on your ceiling. Working smoke alarms save lives. Dinner plates don’t.

15.01.2022 On Father’s Day last year we told you about a journey our community was embarking on with a very special TFS family. Firefighters and other TFS staff from acros...s Tassie pledged their backpay to help Eleanor Oakley get to the USA for a life saving clinical trial to treat a relapse of an aggressive and life threatening form of childhood cancer called Neuroblastoma. This sparked a groundswell of fundraising events and initiatives across TFS and beyond. Eleanor is the daughter of Hobart firefighter Rob. This Father’s Day we are pleased to share with you that Eleanor and her family are now back in Tasmania, she has recently turned 4 and is cancer free! It’s amazing what can be achieved with a little help from our friends! Happy Father’s Day to Rob and all the dads out there.

12.01.2022 We're on the hunt for cars again! Do you have an old clunker lying around that you need to get rid of? TFS firefighters use real cars for road crash rescue trai...ning exercises to ensure our scenarios are as close to real-life as possible. If you have an old unserviceable whole car that you are willing to donate to TFS please get in touch. We can arrange collection of your car and donations can be made by contacting your closest TFS regional office during business hours. South: (03) 6166 5500 North: (03) 6777 3666

08.01.2022 Tasmania’s new state of the art aerial appliances have arrived! TFS has taken delivery of three new appliances from Germany. With platforms capable of reaching ...32 and 24 metres, they are used to fight fires in high rise building and to assist with rescues. You’ll see them around Hobart, Launceston and Burnie/Devonport soon. Do you think Ollie and Monty approve?

06.01.2022 A nice winters day we had crews on stand by at 430 am to help out. We then met up with our colleagues from prospect fire to help out the SES for the day. Just a few photos from our day out. I dont think the power lines were ment to be on the ground

05.01.2022 Do you use a wheat bag? Hobart Fire Brigade attended an incident last night where a wheat bag caught fire in a microwave. Fortunately on this occassion the dam...age from the fire was limited to the microwave. However, there have been instances in Tasmania where wheat bags have caused house fires and a death. Tips for using wheat bags: only use in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions don't overheat in the microwave dispose of them when they get old and the contents dry out don't use them to warm bedding - use a hot water bottle instead More information is available here: http://www.fire.tas.gov.au//200053-TFS-Wheat-filled-hea-pa

05.01.2022 The term 'social distancing' has recently entered our everyday language, but there are many instances where maintaining a safe distance is also required. No pro...perty is immune to fire, whether it involves bushland on your property or the structures themselves. The Tasmania Fire Service appliances will require immediate access if this situation occurs. These vehicles are large - they require a minimum carriageway width of four metres and a height clearance of four metres. A minimum of 0.5 metres clearance should also be maintained on each side of the carriageway. Fire incidents are time critical - delays can be costly! So PLEASE keep your driveways clear. See more

03.01.2022 An unconventional rescue operation unfolded in Ravenswood last night that went a little something like this: 1. Macaw flies into tree and won't get down 2. Owne...r attempts to retrieve macaw from tree 3. Owner gets stuck in tree 4. Fire brigade retrieves owner from tree 5. Fire brigade sprays water into tree 6. Macaw comes down from tree Not your average rescue. Let's see if toucan play at this game Tasmania Police
