Is so important for everyone to find have self care practice in place but especially for those that work directly with hold space and energy for people to heal and grow. My self care journey at the moment is weeding and tending to my mind garden . 16.01.2022 Emotional regulation is foundational, teens moods fluctuate and are often cloaked by behaviour that we miscue. And yet we still need to be available for them to bring all their emotions to the table. Being with them for every single emotion is not realistic, but we can take a reflective stance and see below the behaviour on times we are available. This emotional engagement with us can look like them getting in our way, hanging around us (weirdly) or even picking a fight. Ti...ps- Invite conversation, use questions not statements, casual not intrusive allow autonomy within the connection. Taking charge, its is not until we are in our twenties that we have full access to wisdom, logic, perspective and reasoning skills. Teenagers brain still tells them they have got this and can handle any situation. Take charge means setting boundaries and structure. These walls allow them to have the independence to make choices and experiences safely. Quality relationships involve reflection. Willingness to look at the interactions between you and your teen/tween. Keep yourself in mind at the same time as the other. When you do this with your teenager, your reflective ability will allow you to notice if you missed an opportunity.
