19.01.2022 Day 3... Hurstville Oval/ Velodrome ,,, another beautiful reason to be part of such events,, 400mtrs of smooth black bitumen,, beautiful green grass,, ...palm trees, & tonight,,,, nice soft wind... So my day was to start with a meet at Loftus for a bit mtb... but come 6.30am more snooze was the agenda followed by a family breakfast & a day of rest... no shame here but 3 Mcmuffins,, 2 hash browns,, a chino & an orange juice really filled the void from past nights lack of results... The rest seemed to pay dividends as I had a real feel good night tonight,, legs are loose,, positioning feels more stable than past,, & I’m starting to play with the bunch... Ok,,, Race 1,, Scratch race W/up 6laps... Great concept tonight of rolling warmup into race,, my tactic tonight was to seek shelter try not to get in the way but stay connected.. Being non points I figure most of bunch wasn’t too bothered with the sprint but still felt good to drive & place 4th... Race 2,, handicap (4laps) Was it just last night I was banging on about preparation & informing self... So after learning I’m starting @ 170mtrs & that I’m the rabbit the closest rider is 10mtrs behind me,, Well I’m not the greatest starter just yet but tonight felt good.. Kicking off at 7/10ths & kicking again when the rider behind was on, & then to sit drive,, but my endurance is still short & im out after a 600mtr effort... Still felt good though.. Race 3,, Sprints (4 up, 2laps)... More money in the confidence bank I was really impressed with self to keep in touch till the finnish line,, was a casual roll from the fence for 300 mtrs then someone kicked,, still 500mtrs to go the pace grew steadily into a fast enough finnish... 5th out of 5 is not bad I thinks... Race 4,, Snowball... an endurance event( points every lap starting at 1 then 2 then 3, 4pts & so on... no points had for me but again,, keeping in contact till I had an attempt was more money in the confidence bank... Race 5,, Italian Pursuit... Unfortunately I had to go.. to purchase a clunker of a road bike around the corner not to far... One of those FB buys that just came together in minutes with again ,, that Good Feeling...

11.01.2022 DAY 4 off the 2019 Xmas carnivals took our PCC trackies to Lidcombe tonight. Finley Moutter showing some huge power output even after a 4 hour ride in the morni...ng plus 3 x nights racing prior under his belt. Deren Perry continues to grow each night against the big boys and was really hurting the opposition early, but was devastated when racing was abandoned prior to the madison start due to automatic sprinklers wetting the track. Finley looked pretty happy with the wet track, being an ex Pro Bmx rider was happy to continue regardless

05.01.2022 End of an era. Crafty will sadly be missed as Sydney Christmas Carnival Organizer Extraordinaire On behalf of the entire track community I would like to thank ...you for all the hard work you have done. I keep saying it, but you have done so much for me as a racer, a rider, a human. I’m better because you have been such a big part of my development. Thank you And not just me, but so many other riders. This year’s legacy being ‘That year women's A grade was the feature race’ will live on in folklore and hopefully inspire other race organizers to follow suit. As with many great Sydney Christmas Carnivals I started day 5 in 2nd place on overall points. In true tradition, there were 5 points separating 2nd through 8th. This was anyone’s chance. Except Lucie, there is always an enduro who is absolutely on form who manages to be head and shoulders above the rest. Great form Lucie! Not that I’m competitive or anything, but I had Sarah, Tyler, Keira, McKenna, Heather and Brooke on tight surveillance. For the wheelrace I was on scratch with Tyler, then most of the other girls were in a bunch ahead of me. For a side Joke, Crafty put Maddy Godby and Felice Beitzel on 55 and 65. My hope was those 2 got away, then the front markers. My job was to sit in with the bunch and contest the wheelrace if someone up there on the points was in the mix. it almost worked to plan. The sprinters, Maddy, Selina, and Hannah got up. But I couldn’t get close enough to the finish, and little Sarah claimed a point Next up the One lap screamer. This was the make or break event for the sprinters, and with 5 points separating the top 2-8 this was the chance for a few of the sprinters to strategically place themselves away from each other (except the top 4, sorry Tyler) and collect maximum points. The winners in this were Mckenna and Heather. With their wins, it put them in contention to take out 2nd if they won the final scratch. But the real winner was Maddy. Her one lapper was the fastest of the night, up until John Trovas in the final of A grade men took the title. The last race on the last night is a scratch. Points are usually close so the placings are recorded all the way down the field. If you finish on equal points, the highest finisher in the scratch takes all. I hate how the wheelraces and sprints, and heck the whole series is cooked. It hurts my legs. But I also love how it keeps the points close and the racing fierce. Winning stuff sucks if it’s easy. I race for the competition (and the fun, and the smack talk and the post-race beverages). I spent the race monitoring the top racers, Mckenna, Heather, Keira, Sarah, Tyler. Luckily I still have some endurance in my legs. The pace was on from go, Tyler and Heather dropped off the back. I was no longer having fun. This hurt, and when the bell went I noticed Keira in the mix. I had to go for it. I dug deep and came 4th. If Keira won that, and I didn’t place, the overall standings would have been different. With nothing left in my legs I n=finished the night with a Madison with my partner extrodinare Lucie. We survived some questionable chnges by the guys teams to finish up a respectable 3rd. Go team Well that’s a wrap for 2019. I’m off to ride my bike up some hills. 03.01.2022 If you’re happy and you know it throw your bike! Sydney Christmas carnivals day 3 In typical Hurstville fashion, this was the chill out day. After a crazy day ...1 and a roaring crowd for day 2, it was nice to chill on the magnificent lawn of my home track. I packed a blankie to sit on. It was promptly stolen by the crazy crew of riders I’v let hang with me for the week. But one of them brought watermelon so all was forgiven. First race of the day was the all-in scratch races. How it works is c grade is on the front. They have a 6 lap race. B grade follows 50m behind, and A grade 50m behind that. C grade gets the bell, sprints, and then has one lap to clear the track. Then B grade rolls through and gets an extra 6 laps to race (6+6= 12 laps for B grade). Then finally A grade got an extra 7 laps! Thanks Crafty. Once A grade got to the front, I was no longer pulling the group around. So I didn’t get to light it up (actually I don’t think I had it in my legs). I just sat in. Then a bunch broke away. I was sitting on Lucie’s wheel. I thought she would go. When she didn’t and I realized no St George Cycling Club riders were in the mix. I took a one lap attack and got the red and white on the board for the first race of the night! The wheel race for the night read like a book. And it was a Lucie + Lizanne stitch up. There was 45m between us and the field, and 40m infront of that was the TP team of Lauren, Hannah, Georgia, and Claudia. It didn’t end well for the scratch riders. And the middle markers of Sarah, Tyler, and Keira got up. Next was an old skool 5-8 sprint derby. Going into the final race, it was the top 4 riders on points. The problem with that was 3 girls were tied for fourth. In the highly technical way of scissors paper rock, Keira eventually lost had had to race me Heather and Lucie. Once again hats off to Keira. She was up against some experience sprinters and decided to play to her strength, race her race, and do a flyer. She ended up 4th, but she gave it a go, and that’s better than winning. I have so much respect for that. The snowball was cruel. Everyone. Like everyone was in it to win it. The sprints were long, and every other lap was decided by a line throw. In previous years I was able to go off the front, het the first lap or two and still place. This year I scored 8 points (I won the 8th lap!) and didn’t even get an honorable mention in 4th. Ooft. It was a hard race The final race of the night was a solid Madison. I got asked to race by Sarah Cliff. Of course I said yes. I love a good maddo. In the warm up we did a few practice changes. Sarah was already smiling because I was doing some solid throws, that as an U17 she wasn’t used to the acceleration but loved the speed. Even though the race was the B grade Madison, it was game on from go. We were handicapped to get the first few chances spread out. And it meant everyone was chasing. Then when we go together, everyone was attacking. Such a solid race. In the final lap I was setting up for a change, and then out of nowhere Sarah was on the front. I left her out there. Another team did a change and passed, then the team who was sitting on her wheel went around here in the final lap. We held on for 3rd. For a team of an U17 and a sprinter, we did amazing. 5 stars, will do again. results are here https://www.rawtrack.com.au/index.php?topic=1051.0 photos are here https://www.facebook.com/pg/StGeorgeCycling/photos/?tab=album&album_id=10156648305041767&ref=page_internal day 4 program is here https://www.rawtrack.com.au/index.php?topic=1057.0

01.01.2022 On the second day of Christmas, the racers gave to me: 2 legs a screaming And some banter in the infield Sydney Christmas Carnivals-Day 2... This was the crowd carnival. The riders were there to put on a show. And from the roars if the crowd I think it was a good one. This is the 4th year Tempe has run with this format, and the riders get that it’s not all about racing and we play to the crowd. Before racing started, I was chatting to a few of the younger girls in A grade. While tactically trying to save my legs, the pointed fingers and reminded them all that yesterday was just day 1! Kira Will chirped up laughing, and said stairs were hard (yes!). So I thought that was that, and we continued with further banter. Once again, men’s A grade warmed up the crowd so that women’s A grade could get a cattle call. The girls must of got the cobwebs out of their legs yesterday because the pace was on. Once the formalities were done, I lit it up! Go the sprinter legs! This saw me in a break away???(wtf) with Bronte Stewart and either Isobel or Brook (I cant tell them apart when racing). I did 2 laps then had enough. Actually the bunch slowed, so I got second wind and joined back in. So remember Kira said here legs hurt.. ummmhmmm with the bell ringing I found myself shoulder to shoulder with that munchkin in the final corner, throwing for the line. Next up was the wheel race, Heather May won that by a mile (there goes your handicap!) and I don’t want to talk about the rest. My legs were still gone from the non points scoring ‘warm up’ Then, the event of the night. ONE LAP SCREAMERS! I love these. It’s one lap. Fastest time, you sit on a throne. For years I dominated this, but the throne is a recent thing. I’m have never sat on in. This year saw a steady stream of big units get the honour. Lauren, Jen, Tyler Putz, Heather.... and in the final heat of hitters, Me, Selina, McKenna, and Lauren... I didn’t beat Heathers time. No chair for me. The feature wheelrace saw women’s A grade hold off the scratch markers to take out the swag! Selina did here traditional 500m effort during the handicap miss’n’out to try to bridge the gap before being first out. I’m not sure if that was a success. But the front bunch did catch the back bunch before we all got out. Then Kira! That kid. I was riding solidly and she boxed me in. So good. But I got out. She went on to get 4th. With Lucie and the Carnes twins fighting it out for the final spots. Other news Keith Oliver is a dead set legend John Trovas has one hella start I can’t help but to play to an audience And the crowd loved Chubb / Bolton in the maddo!
