24.01.2022 WHY DRY CUTTING IS ESSENTIAL WHEN TAILORING CURLY HAIR Anthony often cuts curly/wavy hair strands dry, especially if clients wear their hair this way naturally. But Why? ... Anthony says Once you wet the hair, it can be difficult to gauge how the hair is actually reacting to the cut. Working dry allows me to see where strands naturally fall and see how the curls respond to the cut as I work. Sometimes when you cut curls incorrectly, they can spring right up which can lead to disaster and mostly painstaking months ahead trying to grow the shape out again (insert manicured bonsi tree inspo here) Cutting curls dry gives you an accurate feel for how hair will behave when you snip and release the weight. 24.01.2022 THREE WAYS TO NAIL LIVED IN HAIR Hair obsessives, it-girls and those too lazy or busy to commit to regular salon appointments and hours spent styling every morning, listen up we got you covered. Here’s our top three tips to have you twinning like #CamilleRazat from Emily In Paris no time at all ... 1. COLOUR Let your root area have a break (la vacation if you will) as, you need that instant lived in regrowth straight away. Also make sure you have a fun combo of ‘minimum‘ three different complimentary shades in the mix, as this will now blend beautifully and add dimension. Not forgetting to fuse some very calculated confident splices of colour around the mid length area and then topped up with freehand colour where needed for good measure. 2. CUT Your cut needs to appear lived in right away, but not like your strands have had been taken to a razor resembling a scene from Johnny Depp in #EdwardScissorHands either. Point cutting is key to clean texture that gives hair strands movement and mostly, the ends will appear healthy and not wispy and frail. 3. STYLING Keep your styling to a minimum and effortless. This is what’s going to give you that RAW lived in vibes. If you want to use a styling product, scrunch in a styling foam with your palms from now. Forgo the traditional application of ‘roots-ends’ and combing neatly. You want that uneven texture right away. Grab a fat tong......the fattest one you can get your pretty hands onto. Wind the mid lengths around the barrel, leaving the ends free as this looks more natural. The beauty now is, ribbons of variations of tonal hues that start from the root area and bleed right to the ends But why doesn’t the regular balayage method work in this case? There’s a huge difference between flying colours and balayage. Balayage - Colour is manly painted on the midlengths and ends and the root area is left colour free. This method doesn’t give your strands the maximum potential for dimension and movement. Whereas Flying colours - Has more colour applied sporadically throughout the interior and the root area.
