23.01.2022 Just a wee reminder folks...... we have been getting loads of phone calls and messages this week asking about our holiday program. Usually at this time of the term we would be super busy getting everything ready for our awesome holiday workshops - if you havent heard - unfortunately our studio is now officially closed. No more Art Club, Holiday Programs, Toddler Art , Art parties or Adult Program (our very last workshop this Saturday!). Due to Covid and its impact on o...ur business we have been forced to sadly close our doors. Good news though- we are now focusing on our Schools and Kindy programs and are madly visiting schools and centres all around the place!! 20.01.2022 This is our LAST ARTIST SPOTLIGHT before our final Adult workshop this Saturday Concrete Pots & Vessels. Introducing the lovely Michelle of Little Concrete Jungle who creates a stunning range of concrete wares & unique accessories. How did you first get introduced to your craft? I grew up watching my father concrete on our family farm and there was something magical about it. When I needed a pot for my windowsill it was my first choice to go to.... What things inspire you to create? I get inspired by a million different things a day. I believe creative people can find inspiration in even the most boring to normal people places. Its like our secret super power. Im constantly looking at how concrete is being used in public landscaping/architecture and how it has been aging over time. Anything that combines metal, concrete and wood makes my heart sing. Seeing how plants adapt to different environments is also inspirational particularly where it isnt the normal ie growing in cracks on walls etc. Which artists / crafters do you look to for inspiration? Luckily living in Brisbane I have a lot of artists and crafters that I now call friends as its quite a creative community. Seeing what they are up to, as well as creatives around the world, on Instagram etc makes me feel like getting out in my workshop and creating too. I love the work of Jade Tree Ceramics, The Green Lamb, Meekz Contemporary Jewellery and Designs by Fish. Although they all create in different fields its their ability to see things in such a cool way that I love. What are 3 fun facts about you? Im obsessed with plants (though you might know that if you look at my Insta feed). I look like a possessed person at a nursery and/or market. I am totally in love with my two mini Schnauzer dogs (of course as well as my family). Ive been collecting small wooden carved statues from other cultures since I was a teen. . . Thanks Michelle! Everyone loved learning all about working with concrete and creating their concrete moulds and vessels at the workshop this afternoon. Excited to see how they will all look filled with happy plants . It was also our last in- house studio workshop for 2020. It has been a real honour to meet and work with so many of brissies finest artists and crafters over this past 6 years. Thanks also to Michelle for gifting me a pair of her stunning concrete earrings! I am in love!! . I am now off to drink Champagne to celebrate the end of an era, and the fact I now have my weekends back. Woot hoot!!!
