23.01.2022 The rumours are true - the Melbourne International Comedy Festival has been cancelled. We kind of wish we were big enough to be a 'mass gathering' (maybe one day!), but we're a long way off - and with that in mind our Launceston RAW heat will go ahead tomorrow night. Hamish and eleven other finalists (including 'Honourable Mentions' Amanda Bergmann and Simon Burrett) performed to a covid-inspired and socially-distanced boutique audience tonight, surrounded by a heady perfume of alcohol wipes and hand sanitiser. Hamish will go on to perform in the national RAW Comedy Final ... whenever that may be! We reckon those who were there tonight would agree that the fact that we got together in troubled times to have a laugh, and to celebrate the rising stars and new voices of Tasmanian comedy, makes us all bloody winners. <3

12.01.2022 RAW COMEDY UPDATE: --------------------------- Can you believe it's been more than a year since we made it to the Tas RAW Final 2020, complete with our brand new packets of wipes and shiny new bottles of sanitiser, and our high-school-exam-style COVID-safe seating plan?! We're excited to share the latest RAW Comedy updates with you: - The postponed 2020 RAW Comedy National Final is happening on 11 April - we'll be cheering on our 2020 Tas winner Hamish Levis from afar.... - The 2021 competition will be run between July and October, with State/Territory heats and finals to be held across July and August. - Confirmed dates for 2021 will be announced (and entrant registrations will open) after this year's Melbourne International Comedy Festival - watch out for announcements in April/May from the MICF. - The MICF team hopes that we'll be returning to normal RAW programming (Jan-April) for 2022 and beyond - but hey, we'll be ready for any curveballs that come our way. Claire Stewart, Simon Burrett, Max Everitt and Elisa & Nellie Ryan have been selected to go through to the Tas RAW Comedy State Final this Wednesday night! Stay tuned for an update later today regarding this event - it will go ahead but we're putting in place some risk minimisation measures to ensure it's run as safely as possible.

01.01.2022 RAW COMEDY TAS + COVID-19: We are going ahead with this week's RAW Comedy - Tas State Final at Jokers Comedy Club. The national RAW Comedy team is hoping to run... a rescheduled national final later in 2020 and we want to do everything we can to make sure there's a Tasmanian on the stage when it happens. Even if our entrants are performing to a tiny audience, they'll be seen by the judges and we'll announce our Tas winner on Wednesday night. Here's what we're doing in relation to COVID-19: 1. We've closed ticket sales on our Trybooking and Theatre Royal (Hobart) platforms, and Wednesday's show is officially 'sold out'. There will be no doorsales and we expect to have fewer than 80 people in the room. We're sorry if you've missed out on a ticket - these are unprecedented times and we're all dealing with challenges and disappointments! We assure you we're pretty disappointed to be losing ticket sales too. 2. Our smaller audience will allow us to spread out our chairs to facilitate social distancing. If you're coming, please observe recommended protocols around greeting, coughing, sneezing, distancing etc. 3. We'll have hand sanitiser, mini alcohol wipes, disinfectant wipes and disinfectant spray onsite. There will be signs and announcements to encourage frequent handwashing. Our microphones will be disinfected between acts. Try to use contactless payment methods to buy your drinks at the bar. 4. Because we won't have doorsales available our Crew won't have to handle any cash or process eftpos transactions. 5. If you've got a ticket for Wednesday but feel you should stay away, we can transfer it to any future Wednesday Jokers show currently on sale. If you have a Trybooking ticket you should have received an email from us earlier today with instructions about ticket transfers - please email [email protected] with any questions. If you purchased via the Theatre Royal you can call the box office (6146 3300) to arrange a transfer. Stay tuned later this week for more Jokers-related announcements. We're currently taking things one event at a time but of course we're ready for that to change. In the meantime, be kind.
