18.01.2022 RawEdgeTimber Beds are made from Australian Native Timbers with one exeption being Camphor Laurel . The reason for the exeption is Camphor Laurel is wiping out a lot of natural vegetion because of its speedy growth which out grows and smothers native seedlings. Unfortunately CLaurel has been around long enough to have the native animals rely on it where it has taken over so cutting it all out at once is not an option For this reason sustainable Millers like RawEdgeTimbe...r work with landcare and landholders to cut a section out then replant natives . When natives begin to take hold the next section is cut and so on . This gives native birds and animals continuous food and shelter to survive and grow. The Good side of Camphor Laurel is the timber itself is very good to work with making furniture. The colouring can be too busy for some while others love the colouring. As for smell the name Camphor says it all. This gives it another advantage for making Blanket Boxes etc. RawEdgeTimber Beds are made from both Australian Hardwoods and Softwoods . We are fortunate in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland as a lot of timber types grow here. This gives us the advantage of being able to sustainably Mill ourselves using a portable SawMill. This allows us to take the mill to the fallen tree. We then erect mill cut timber and walk timber out to a clearing to avoid any damage to surrounding forest.
