25.01.2022 The morning after... I always wake up with anticipation the morning after I've made a bone broth. Will there be jelly? . . . Yes - we have jelly! (< happy dance from me )... Yesterday's slow cooker duck bone broth was made using five duck frames, apple cider vinegar and water. 24.01.2022 Yesterday morning, we started the day with adolescent 'Missy' the Staffy x. BURSTING with energy and with spring poles in her legs Missy's owners are coming to see me for some help with jumping up, pulling on leash and over excited craziness . After a slow start, to give Missy some time to regain her brain, we discussed why the jumping up happens and how to handle it, the importance of creating calm before we even think about leaving for a walk and how to start changing ...the issue of pulling on lead. Most of what needs to happen to get these guys on track is a tweak of their own behaviour and body language and an understanding of what is going on for the dog. Not such a taxing training session today, but the value in allowing our dogs to choose to interact with other suitable dogs AND being able to stop, relax and just watch the world around them is INVALUABLE Your dog doesn't need to be on the go all the time. They don't have to be running around going nuts with other dogs. You can create opportunities for quiet, peaceful relaxation. These dogs weren't told to sit or d...rop, they chose to do this. 21.01.2022 I took some time to chillax outside in the shade with sweet Roxy today She did a little bit of foraging for treats, and tentatively met a senior gentleman on a motorised scooter (who kindly asked if he could touch her, allowed Roxy to approach him and he kept it short and sweet, allowing her to back away ), before deciding to lay down beside me and enjoy the breeze. The time Roxy spends with me each week is a mix of relaxation, interacting with enrichment toys, short sniffer walks on a long relaxed leash, calm socialisation with appropriate other dogs, and progressively trying to give her the tools to conquer her anxiety and develop her confidence. 21.01.2022 There is a high probability that my face would also look like this if someone gave me a midday massage at work on a Friday Little Maggie is here for her second day stay, and she walked in this morning much happier and less nervous than her first week . She is still wary of the other dogs, but this week is sniffing, circling and interacting a little more. We are spending our one on one time this afternoon with some quiet time - doing a treat search, snuggling on the floor a...nd enjoying some massage and skin rolling. Why skin rolling and massage? 20.01.2022 Using crates or crate training is a contentious topic and as with everything, it can be done well - so the dog actually enjoys their time in the crate, is comfortable within the crate, and is relaxed. Conversely, it can also be done very poorly - leading to stressed and panicked dogs . Closing them in, letting them scream, scratch and bite at the cage is NOT the way to develop confident, secure dogs that can be okay in a crate (or confined to a smaller area) if they need... to be. Yesterday, Eddie had a little bit of time in the crate - with a Kong Tiltz to entertain her (the snuffle mat had already been snuffled). 14.01.2022 The day begins... as easy as an Organic Paws roo rib, green tripe (both available in store) and an Antinol Rapid capsule for additional support. Simple, healthy, nutritious. In the past 10 days, for their bones, my dogs have had beef bones, duck feet, and now roo ribs = variety! 11.01.2022 Thor & Nova had a puppy socialisation day stay today At 5 months old, these two are a pair of mischief makers . The day began with looting the store, successfully obtaining treats including fish pellets, donut shaped cookies and almost some beef pizzle. 11.01.2022 How do I handle a pup who strikes an unfamiliar object and reacts by barking at it? I support them in checking it out so that they can become familiar with it, realise it's not a threat and move on. I am the teacher. I approach the object to show them I'm not afraid of it. I might touch it. I may crouch down beside it.... Importantly, I give pup space to back away from it, and the encouragement to go towards it, in their own time. I don't drag pup towards the scary object, or carry them up to it. I am patient and calm, and (relatively) quiet. I'm not issuing constant reassurance. Lead by example - calm, relaxed confidence, understanding - you and your pup are a team now.

10.01.2022 Our Thursday night Socialisation Session is pretty relaxed. We intersperse a bit of obedience with human socialisation and dog socialisation within the parameters that each dog requires. Some dogs are super social, some are familiar to each other and like to play, some are a bit uncertain so they hang on the outskirts, some are not sure how to behave or react and might also need a bit more space to adjust and be able to relax. For all of these dogs, how the human on th...e end of their lead behaves plays a massive role in how they behave. 07.01.2022 We heard Eddie & Patsy got new grass at their place, and we were a bit jealous... so tada! Every inch as good as the professional install round the corner Just kidding - theirs is WAYYYYY better. These pieces came from the Curious Dog headquarters, and after numerous christenings from the various dogs, they were getting a bit smelly in the closed shed . I've brought them home to cover the bare dirt patches (alright, more than patches) in the yard where the shady trees hav...e killed off the grass. We'll make do with this cheap fake stuff until it's no longer any good, and the smell won't be quite so overpowering outside.
