23.01.2022 There will be no classes for the next few weeks. Meantime, keep moving, breathing, stretching, and even Tai chi-ing at home. It doesn't need a lot of room, just a space to become calm.
20.01.2022 It's good news that we can move forward again on Monday 6th July. 9 am to beginners and 10.30 am for the advance class. We hope you can all come back.
19.01.2022 How are you all doing at home? Some more basics from this book pictured All movement emanates from the Dan Tien. The Dan Tien is approx 3 finger widths below the navel and is the center of gravity of the body. Ensure that all of your movements are synchronised. When one part of the body moves, all parts of the body should move When one part of the body comes to rest, all parts should come to rest. Moves are performed gazing at eye level into the distance, in order to ensure that the lower back is upright Shoulders should be relaxed, but not slouched.
17.01.2022 On nice days we have the outside door open facing the river. It is getting later in the year now, but it is never to late to start Tai Chi. Beginners class is at 9.00 am on Monday mornings. Pictured is a student with a saber in the following class.
16.01.2022 One of our students has shared this photo. Don't worry it isn't this hard, just a play on words used to name some of the moves we make in the "form"
15.01.2022 How is your Tai Chi going? Beautiful weather for doing it outdoors. This image was sent by a student. One way to remind us to keep Tai Chi-ing, thanks Steve,
15.01.2022 If she can, so can we. Tai Chi classes continue on Monday mornings until December 16th, the final day this year. You are welcome to come and check us out before then, at the Scout Hall, 26 King Street, Raymond Terrace. Beginners at 9 an,
12.01.2022 Enjoy your Christmas and New Year break. Put on some relaxing music or go outdoors, and keep moving, breathing consciously. Classes will be back on Monday 20th January morning 9am for beginners,
10.01.2022 On your way into Tai Chi class everybody is temperature checked and use santiser before entering the building. As we start back on the basic moves, now is a good time to start in the beginner's class at 9 am on Monday mornings.
10.01.2022 Practising the art of Tai Chi involves the use of all parts of the body moving in harmony. The movements should be smooth and continuous. The characters "Tai Chi" can be traced back to "The Book of Changes" written in the Zhou Dynasty over two thousand years ago. Our classes continue on Monday mornings until the last lesson this year on Monday 16 December. You are welcome to come along for a look and try in the beginner's class around 9 am.
07.01.2022 Thank you for your patience. Our tutor Irene, is working through the current recommendations of the Tai Chi Association which include temperature checks, cleaning between classes, separating class times and more. We hope to have a start back date announcement in another week's time. Meantime, take care, and keep moving.
06.01.2022 When practising Tai Chi, every movement should be spirited; your movements can not be too soft or loose. They are relaxed but not empty. Any stiffness or rigidity will impede the flow of chi and blood. Classes are well underway now for 2020. Beginner's class at 9 am Monday mornings. Students will recognise the image as the "parting of the wild horse's mane".
05.01.2022 Finally we are back after 3 1/2 months. After that long break, we are starting back with the basics like breathing and posture. So if you are new to Tai Chi, now would be a good time to come and check us out. Beginners Class is at 9 am on Monday mornings at the Scout Hall, 24 King Street. Pictured on the right, it overlooks the Hunter River.
04.01.2022 Ten important points according to Yang Cheng Fu 1 Hold the Head Straight with Ease. The neck needs to be straight, relaxed and alive 2 Sink the Chest and Raise the Back. A slight drawing in of the chest allows the chi to sink to the Dan Tian. 3 Relax the Waist. The waist is the commander and allows legs to be stable. 4 Distinguishing Solid and Empty. If your body centre rests in your right leg, then your right leg is solid and the left leg is empty, and vice versa. Y...our legs will be light and agile. 5 Sink the Shoulders and Elbows. The shoulders should relax and hang downwards. The same with the elbows. 6 Use the Mind and not Brute Force. By relaxing during your Tai Chi movements, your chi will move freely to every part of your body which will benefit your health. 7 Co-ordinate your Upper and Lower Body. When your hands, waist and feet move, your gaze needs to follow in unison. 8 Unify your Internal and External. Tai Chi trains the spirit. The movements must work in concordance with the heart/mind. 9 Continuity, No stopping. From beginning to end, the movements are continuous, like an endless circle. or like a great river flowing continuously. 10 Seek Serenity in Activity. It is important to practice the movements slowly, which helps to regulate your breathing, enabling it to become deep and long. See more
03.01.2022 How's your Tai Chi going alone? We are not quite ready to resume classes, but hopefully will not be too far away. Meantime, keep calm and breathe easy.
