24.01.2022 First bushfire work on canvas; time to go bigger I think.
24.01.2022 More charcoal wash quick sketches on Lake Chelan at Stehekin
23.01.2022 Its been a weird week. Ive struggled with tears at unexpected moments. Just an accumulation of stuff. So I just focused on my work. Went into the studio relentlessly. Because I know its good for me. If I dont have studio time, things just get darker. Making a mark on a page or canvas feels like Im moving forward. I found two great sources of inspiration this week. 23.01.2022 What a paper artists studio floor looks like. Like a rats nest. Its beginning to make me feel a bit icky inside.
23.01.2022 I bought myself a $20 battery powered turntable
23.01.2022 I used to sew my own clothes and wear them to high school I love the meditative nature of needle and thread so Ive stitched the upside down crown that forms the M of Monde onto my jeans pocket.
23.01.2022 Last of the little ones
23.01.2022 As I tear through these strips of blackened paper, they leave an ashy residue on my fingers. Another little square one.
22.01.2022 A good day. Put the last sticky bits on two works. This is the first work; Crown, 1.5 metres x 1 metre (5 x 3 4), overpainted magazines on canvas. @ 57 Biscayne Artist Studios
22.01.2022 Flicking through the photos on my phone, I came across a shot of the bushfires around Braidwood in December last year. It jolted me back to the bushfires that ravaged the land around our home for weeks and weeks and weeks. What was so surprising for me that it rekindled this underlying trauma which I thought I had left behind. [ 255 more words ] http://raymonde.blog//a-turn-to-the-dark-side-from-ashes-/
22.01.2022 I slept in a field of yellow buttons and never wanted to leave. Chrysocephalum apiculatum.

20.01.2022 Im at a junction. In my mind Im already creating the rocky landscapes on the Shoalhaven River and yet, this exuberant, saturated swimming pool series wont leave my head. Its going to be bright, summery and pure joy (with a bit of weirdness as usual). To think of bright times when the world is in a dark place is not delusional or denying whats happening, its about resilience, finding a way through it all
20.01.2022 I got a little write-up in the Goulburn Post for the Veolia Mulwaree Creative Arts Scholarship https://www.goulburnpost.com.au//ray-monde-speaks-through/
20.01.2022 Earlier in the year I created a sculptural work The Impossible Journey Home. When I found out it was a finalist in the Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize 2020, I thought "I'm going to make more of them!" The things about these works is they remind me of all the things I loved drawing as a kid. The funny little complex worlds where all these little tiny people are getting caught up in all kinds of adventures.... http://raymonde.blog//revisiting-the-small-worlds-in-my-h/
20.01.2022 This worked out good. Flip for more shots. Tentatively called ‘Tunnelling my way home’ Collage, board and pine.
19.01.2022 Hard to capture the diorama but this gives you a sense of what’s going on in that shoebox. Think I need to drill some illumination holes in the top to highlight key forms.
19.01.2022 This week President Trump stood in front of a crowd in Tulsa and was applauded as he drank a glass of water with one hand. The 2020 US Presidential Election is scheduled for 3 November this year. As an alien here, the most important thing for me is that the elections are fair. 19.01.2022 Things have kicked off well for a Square Deal: 50 artists for a fair vote. If you live in the USA, theres still time to grab one and support a fair vote. https://raymonde.blog/20//25/24-artworks-sold-in-24-hours/
18.01.2022 We’ll Row Home If We Have To; collage, board, synthetic polymer paint, walnut wood; 2020
18.01.2022 Tiny merino under a tiny tree. Actually, it’s a poll Dorset under a eucalyptus pauciflora, but when they’re half-an-inch high, does it really matter?
18.01.2022 There's been a massive outpouring of artworks during the Trump administration. Before he came to power, I never imagined he would invoke such a huge surge in art. In fact, in back in 2013, I asked the same question of Obama. Obama's portrait by Kehinde Wiley at the National Portrait Gallery has seen visitor numbers triple (before COVID-19). Merchandise sales also spiked three-fold.... http://raymonde.blog//is-trump-the-most-inspiring-preside/
18.01.2022 Bye bye little studio, Ill miss you while Im in Oregon. But really looking forward to another wee roadtrip!
17.01.2022 Bye bye for now, what a wild, insane, intense and über productive time it has been here.
17.01.2022 Here it is in rotation so you get a better sense of the changing dynamic landscape.
16.01.2022 For me, the smoke plumes were probably the worst; the watching, the waiting, feeling the wind change with a sense of dread.
16.01.2022 Crush charcoal from the camp fire, mix with glacial water, brush with chewed reed from edge of Lake Chelan
15.01.2022 Work in progress on the pool series
15.01.2022 Havent Seen the Sky in Weeks; collage and painted paper on 400gsm paper. Playing with smaller pieces from the kitchen bench.

14.01.2022 What do you like to rub all over yourself? Heres why difficult conversations are the only way forward. http://raymonde.blog//what-do-you-like-to-rub-all-over-yo/
13.01.2022 This week I had an unexpected three-way. Summer is here, temperatures are rising and people are emerging from lock-downs around the country. Everyone is embracing their new found freedom. (Perhaps too enthusiastically, with COVID-19 infections spiking around the United States.) Lucky for me, my three way, was totally about art. At a safe distance. First, Saatchi Art hooked someone up with this piece. [ 309 more words ] http://raymonde.blog/2020/07/12/an-unexpected-three-way/
13.01.2022 Heres a quick spin around this new work; Ive just ordered a $20 battery-powered lazy susan to see how it looks rotating @ 57 Biscayne Artist Studios

12.01.2022 This year, the United States will vote for the next President of the United States. Ive joined a 50 artists who support a fair vote this November. If you want to help, donate at least $100 and get an artwork in return. http://57biscayne.com/square-deal/

06.01.2022 More little people. Up they go. It’s a long hike up to their AirBnB.

04.01.2022 Late nights in the studio. Putting in 12-14 hours a day, really enjoying the challenge of small bits of overpainted paper on big canvases.
03.01.2022 I know youve not been able to sleep, waiting for an update on the state of my studio floor since yesterday.
03.01.2022 There has been waaaay too much darkness in my studio lately so Im working up a batch of swimming pool blue before the Seattle summer leaves us.
03.01.2022 This work was controversial wherever I showed it. The juxtaposition of the rope and the feet made a lot of people uneasy. For me, it was always about revisiting favourite childhood places as an adult and thinking about how life has changed. Its both wistful and proud. Thrilled its going to a wonderful collectors home.
02.01.2022 I finished the grass. It goes on for three metres. What am I doing to myself?
