25.01.2022 *We aim to minimise the number of tourist vehicles on the island to protect wildlife, respect resident’s privacy and reduce the need for bitumen (most of the roads are not sealed). *The ferry to Raymond Island leaves Paynesville every 20 minutes. *You can park behind on the foreshore or behind the hotel and walk through to the ferry. *Pedestrians travel free on the ferry. *You do not need your car on the island as the Koala Trail starts as soon as you disembark the ferry.
23.01.2022 While Raymond Island’s koalas, kangaroos, echidnas and birds have remained safe during the current bushfire crisis, much of the rest of our beautiful area of East Gippsland has suffered. To help rebuild and resource necessary shelters for injured wildlife we recommend you consider donating to Wildlife Victoria’s Victorian Bushfire Appeal. Make sure you select the Victorian Bushfire 2020 option as you donate. https://www.wildlifevictoria.org.au//donate-to-wildlife-vi
22.01.2022 We look forward to welcoming visitors once more over the coming long weekend and beyond. The ferry is operating as usual and you should leave your car in Paynesville. Please read and adhere to the social distancing and hygiene instructions on display at the terminal before you board. On the trail, we ask you to maintain your groups and maintain a safe distance from others.

21.01.2022 Thanks for coming to Raymond Island and discovering our uniqueness.

16.01.2022 It is a 1.2 km walking track that winds through the park adjacent to the ferry, residential streets and a nature reserve jointly managed by Parks Victoria and the Gunnai kurnai people. The trail is marked by rocks and bollards with photos and directional arrows. It is wheelchair friendly. You can purchase an information booklet from the shelter at the beginning of the trail for $2. All monies go to the Raymond Island Landcare group for revegetation of koala habitat. There is a map of the trail inside. The trail is on flat land. It is a combination of shared bitumen roads, shared unsealed roads and open space bushland.
12.01.2022 The Koala Island Foundation has been hard at work and we think Raymond Island residents will be pleased. Now we need your feedback. Please note you need to pre-register to attend.
11.01.2022 *Vehicles should be parked in Paynesville before boarding the ferry. *Dogs are allowed but MUST REMAIN ON LEASH AT ALL TIMES ON RAYMOND ISLAND. *Residents are very friendly but please do not enter private property unless invited. *Koalas may look cute and cuddly BUT Raymond Island is not a zoo and our koalas are not used to being handled in any way. To avoid stress to the animals and to avoid injury to yourself (koalas have a nasty bite and extremely sharp claws for climbing) PLEASE NEVER TOUCH A KOALA, no matter how close they may be to you or how cute they may seem.
11.01.2022 Next Sunday May 3rd is National Wild Koala Day. Organisers are calling for everyone to pin a gum leaf on their shirt. It is the perfect symbol to celebrate wild koalas: gum leaves are 100% natural and critical to koala survival, and most Australians can get one, even in isolation.... Koalas of Raymond Island (our new koala shelter) will celebrate Wild Koala Day by posting on facebook pics of people wearing the gum leaf. Get creative! You can’t wear a real koala, but you can involve a toy one and wear the thing they need most gum leaves. Email your selfie to Shelly Robinson at [email protected] by Friday 1st May 2020. You can also support Wild Koala Day by sharing a pic on social media. Tag #wildkoaladay to show you care about koalas. Pic by Mark Alderman
11.01.2022 Sunday May 3rd is National Wild Koala Day! ‘Koalas of Raymond Island’ (KORI) is a new volunteer group including registered wildlife carers dedicated to the rescue, care and rehabilitation of sick, injured and orphaned koalas. KORI has registered as a new Wildlife Shelter on Raymond Island and are working on building new enclosures and pre-release pens for koalas in care. Please have a look and like their Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/Koalas-of-Raymond-Island-1092521...94021944/ They have launched a new fundraiser to help pay for building enclosures, an assessment and treatment area, pay vet bills and buy rescue equipment, medical supplies and everything needed to look after our furry friends in care. Thank you to those who supported the previous fund-raising campaign which helped to build the first enclosure. If you want to support this important local cause, your donation will go directly towards koala rescue, care and rehabilitation on Raymond Island by Raymond Islanders. 10.01.2022 Parks Victoria has advised that Raymond Island is closed to all visitors due to weather concerns. We will post again when the Koala Trail is opened.
09.01.2022 Planning to visit us today, Wed Dec 23? Come prepared with sturdy waterproof boots and mozzie repellent. You can still walk the trail (and have fun dodging puddles) but heavy overnight rains have left large amounts of water lying around. They should mostly clear by Christmas Eve #visitpaynesville #visiteastgippsland #koalaislandfoundation
05.01.2022 There are no shops on the island. Please bring all your needs with you, including food and drink. There are plenty of places in Paynesville to shop for these items. Bring environmentally friendly mozzie spray, drinking water and sunscreen.

01.01.2022 Raymond Island is once more open to tourists. We have not been impacted by fires. Our koalas are as curious and lazy as ever. Leave your car in Paynesville and travel free as a pedestrian on the ferry to start your koala experience. Surrey bikes are available to hire at the beginning of the Koala Trail.
