25.01.2022 A mid-week fishing trip is good for the soul! Heading out on a last minute foray into Westernport Bay meant that the first order for the day was to get some fresh bait. Luckily, I got a nice sized squid early on, so was set to make the most of the rest of the day. I set up my snapper rods in anticipation and ended up sticking to the light gear for most of the day as the currents were being kind.... Unfortunately, the day wasnt as fruitful as Id hoped. I caught a lot of Banjos, Flattys, and the smallest Port Jackson I have ever seen. But nothing really to write home about. My one good catch was the one that got away! The leader broke as I was lifting a nice sized gummy into the boat. Devastated!! I did try a few new spots, but with todays outcome, I may not head back to them again. Well see! See you out on the bay!

25.01.2022 Quality fishing, great company, and Mother Nature turning it on for us have made this weekend an amazing time to be out on the water. We were up and at it early again on day 3 of the 3rd Annual Welshpool Snapper & Gummy Challenge and this was our last chance to try and find that elusive big Snapper. However, it wasnt to be. While we did bring in a nice smallish Snapper straight up, the bites just werent coming. The wind had started to pick up and wasnt making our job any... easier, so we decided to call it a day. Back on shore in Port Welshpool, we hung around for the judging to see what the rest of the 67 boat fleet brought in. The winning Snapper came in at 8.9 kg!! We were really happy with the 84cm Snappers we brought in, still a personal best for us, but they were a little on the light side. Our biggest only came in at 6kg. We must have caught the fish that were watching their weight! LOL A big thank you to Jay Jamieson and Shaun Lake for joining me over the weekend in Welshpool. Im sure weve got plenty more fishing adventures to come. And a massive shout out to Shaun for keeping us all fed over the weekend and for his organisational skills on the boat. Port Welshpool is an amazing place to fish. Well be definitely keeping this weekend free next year for the 4th Annual Challenge! Tight lines and keep fishing friends!

21.01.2022 Happy New Year to everyone! I hope you all had a fantastic holiday season and that 2019 is full of fantastic fishing adventures. Ive started the year off with some great shark fishing adventures, read more about the latest one below. What have you been up to?... We, Jay and I, though we might try our luck out at Cape Conran again. After our exciting shore-based shark fishing excursion to east Victoria recently, weve been bitten by the shark fishing bug and the draw of the elusive Bronze Whaler. While we did watch someone else haul one in last time, its just not the same as fighting one to the shore yourself. This time, we were also joined by Matti Jonkers (aka Turtleman) and his partner Belinda. Our plan had been to get out a bait or two that evening, but the weather was against us. The swell and breakers werent playing nice, so we hit the swags instead. An early (5:30am!) start saw us walking down to the beach with all out shark gear. We had high hopes for a great day! By 07:00am we had 3 rods with big baits out and settled in for the wait. Twenty hours later, we decided to call it quits. The baits had been soaking all day and not a one of them had been taken. We struggled back off the beach with all our gear at about 02:00am. But we all know that its called FISHING and not CATCHING. While we may not always get that big fish (or any fish) we were after, were still out there doing what we love. Great company and new friends is a part of what its all about. Im hoping to also get my kids involved soon, so that I can share my love of fishing with them! So, stay tuned! We also saw a goanna going for a stroll up the beach the Aussie outdoors whats not to love? Well all be back at work for a few weeks, but were planning on heading out again for the next long weekend. Until next time, tight lines .

21.01.2022 New jumpers for me and the boys for xmas from my Sister in Antarctica thanks Jane we love them

20.01.2022 Had another crack at the bronzies on Saturday . The weather was amazing but unfortunately no hits on the big rods. This was pretty much the best part of the day. Also had a couple of falls from the yak one as I was trying to dump the bait 300 meters out and can tell you I nearly walked on water to get back into the yak lol. Will keep being out there trying to do what I love.... Tight lines all See more

20.01.2022 Had I caught a shark or a trawler? In the encroaching darkness it was hard to tell. **************** On a tip from one of my mates whod had good luck there a week ago - our shark fishing adventures this time took us to Lake Tyres in the East Gippsland Region of Victoria. Its a good 4-5 hours drive from the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, including stops for a new kayak, tackle and bait, and the obligatory pit stops required on a road trip! ...Continue reading

20.01.2022 Took the boys to Tenby Point for a little fish only ended up with a banjo and one tinny school shark but the kids enjoyed it

19.01.2022 Went for a walk self isolating the other weekend and got myself my first ever brown trout and then a second Also a nice bee sting to the back of the head The joys of fishing lol

19.01.2022 Now that shark season is over, its time to try our hands and some different types of fishing. And what a weekend we had. I had an amazing time getting out on the water and learning a new type of fishing. We were trying our hand at hooking the Murray Cod we were fishing from a boat on the river, figuring out where they would be lurking, and practicing our casting technique to try for that elusive catch. ... I was out fishing with Shaun Lake, who has the perfect little VB tinny for the occasion. We launched in the Barmah State Forest area of the Murray River and headed upstream to start throwing lures. Cast after cast, we tried to figure out where the cod would be hiding. All of a sudden my lure got hit and I was on! But in the next moment the fish broke the surface and threw the lure, so I missed my first cod. But hey, thats fishing! So we kept throwing the lures. The wind started blowing making it tough, but we kept at it until around 11am when we decided to head back, pack up, and head towards Tocumwal. We popped in to see my Dad quickly and then we were off, looking for another spot to fish for the afternoon. We ended up putting in at Apex Beach, just out of Tocumwal. What a spot nice - sandy beach and beautiful scenery. So, we set up camp, put the boat in, and headed back out fishing. But again, Lady Luck just wasnt on our side The next morning, we were on the water again by 7.15 - just as the sun started to lighten the place up. Up the river, we found a huge tree that had fallen over in the water that looked like a great hiding spot for fish. We tied the boat up and started casting again. Not long after, just when Shaun decided to make us a coffee, I had the fright of my life when a beautiful 47cm cod hit my lure. It was a pretty exciting catch though, my first ever Murray Cod. This one got to go back in the river though as the bag size here is between 55cm and 75cm. It was and amazing weekend of learning new methods of fishing and chasing new species of fish. To actually land one was an absolute ball and a big thanks to Shaun for coming with his tinny. Better luck next time mate! Im sure well be back for another round! Until the next adventure - Tight Lines

19.01.2022 Welshpool seems like such a distant memory, so we though it was about time that we got back on the water! Jay joined me on Friday night and we headed out to our usual fishing haunts. Joes Island remains a lucrative spot for us and we ended up with a good feed of pinkies and gummys. We also tried a few different locations throughout the night to see if we could add some new hot spots to our list of go-tos. But no such luck. There wasnt much happening out there.... By lunchtime on Saturday, when we still werent getting any bites, we decided that it was time to call it and headed in. With our early haul it was a great night out. Well be back out on the water soon to try again. Till then, tight lines!

18.01.2022 At first light on day two of the 3rd Annual Welshpool Snapper & Gummy Challenge we were keen to get started on another day of chasing the elusive big snapper. Wed had a bit of luck the night before, but really didnt think any of our catches were in with a chance at weighing in at the heaviest. We started the day by heading back to the squid grounds to top up our bait supply. While it was shaping up to be another nice day, the wind had picked up a little and the sea was qu...ite choppy around the squidding area and those slippery little suckers were proving to be elusive. So Jay, Shaun and myself headed back our to try for some bigger fish off Port Welshpool. Obviously, wed exhausted all the fish the night before, as they werent around that morning to tug at our lines! We didnt get a bite all morning. It was a little disheartening, but there was still plenty of time left in the competition to come good. At around 1pm, we headed back to the squid grounds to see if we could get some fresh bait to change out luck in the afternoon. We tried a different spot to where we had no luck earlier in the day. Sitting in about 1.8 metres of water, they were practically jumping in the boat. For around 2 hours, almost every cast brought in a squid, with Jay being the standout in the squid department. With 28 squid to now use as fresh bait we were fired up to get back out there chasing the big fish. Unfortunately, it wasnt to be. We were hardly getting any bites at all, let alone something BIG! At around 8:30pm we decided to head back to our mark from the night before. It was slightly deeper water there and we hoped that maybe some decent sized Snapper might have been lurking there. We scored ourselves quite a few decent sized Snapper up to 84cm. Once again, a personal best. We also reeled in a couple of nice, table size Gummys. It was a good session. While these Snapper were a great length, they still didnt have the substance, the weight, to bring in the trophy. By 1:00am, the fish had stopped biting and we called it a night. Theres still one more morning to go for us to be challengers in the heaviest Snapper stakes. Wish us Tight Lines for the final push.

17.01.2022 Start of the long weekend travelling around eildon for the long weekend with Jay Jamieson

17.01.2022 It looked like the weather was going to hold out over the weekend so I took advantage of it and headed out for a solo fish. Heading out from Warneet again in the early afternoon, I made my way to Tyabb Bank, looking for some squid to use as fresh bait. I pulled in a couple of nice sized ones that would keep me going for a while. From there I headed up to Joes Island again to chase the Reds on light gear. I love nothing better than chasing them with a 10 pound line! By mid...night, Id caught my bag limit and called it quits. A bit of a snooze had me heading back in to the ramp early morning. Another great night! Stay tuned for next weekend, when a few of us will be heading down to Welshpool for the 3rd Annual Welshpool Snapper and Gummy Challenge. Were hoping for some good results. Wish us luck! Till then stay tight!

15.01.2022 What a fantastic time we had night fishing on the weekend! Non-stop action for hours on end saw us constantly reeling them in. We had planned to start the evening by catching a few squid for bait, but the swell and wind at the squid grounds put a halt to that. Instead we resorted to the fresh Yakkas (Yellowtail Scad) and frozen Pillies (Pilchards) that wed picked up earlier.... Our first stop out of Warneet was out the front of the channel in 20 meters of water. Unfortunately, they just werent biting here and after half an hour we decided to move on. We headed out to a mark just past Joes Island where weve had good luck before. This was definitely the spot to be that night. The fish were practically queuing up to get on our lines! The night fish ended with us having plenty of Pinkys (juvenile Snapper) for a great feed and two very nice Gummy Sharks to take home. We also caught some Trevally, which well be keeping for bait for the next trip. Till then, heres wishing you Tight lines.

14.01.2022 Monday RDOs What else is there to do other then a quick trip to Blue Rock Lake with Shaun Lake and his VB tinny. Got up there nice and early and headed out from the ramp.... We new it was going to be a warm day so headed for the trees and started flicking lures. Lots and lots of casts I finally ended up with a little redfin, almost the smallest I have caught lol. We kept casting and casting but to no avail so Shaun cooked up bacon and egg sandwiches which was amazingly good. We tired everywhere i could think of but just couldnt get them to bite. We decided to try one last spot and Shaun ended up wading in the water to cool off. Finally at this spot Shaun caught his first little bass. Was a very tough day as im still learning about fresh water fishing but had a great day with a good mate and plenty of casts. We will keep trying, Tight Lines Everyone.

14.01.2022 This past weekend I participated in the 3rd Annual Welshpool Snapper & Gummy Challenge down at Port Welshpool. A big thank you to the organisers for a great weekend of fishing. Port Welshpool is about a 2 to 2 hour drive south-east of Melbourne in South Gippsland. Its a beautiful part of Victoria and Port Welshpool has a great boat ramp with three lane access and plenty of parking. Also up for the challenge were Shaun Lake and Jay Jamieson. We arrived early Friday aftern...oon and put the boat straight in the water, eager to go and try our luck. With around 62 boats in the competition over the weekend, we needed all the luck we could get. First stop bait. Cant catch anything without a little something on the hook to lure them in! Itd been a while since Id fished in this area, but there were plenty of other boats on the squid grounds to point it out to us. Anchoring up behind the other boats, it only took about 15 minutes before we had 11 fresh squid on deck. Well stocked and ready to go we moved on. Next stop our search for a big snapper! Thats the whole point of the competition and we were eager to be in the running for one of the prizes. We knew the winning target was going to be bigger than we get in our usual stomping grounds, so we were excited to see what we could hook. We tried a few different locations through the rest of the afternoon, but came up empty. As night was closing in, we picked a new spot and settled in for the evening, in the hope that wed start getting something tugging at our lines. Sean started getting a late dinner ready for us and just after Id finished my first sausage bang my rod went off! First snapper of the weekend and it was around 70cm long. Nice, but probably not good enough. The first five fish we pulled in that evening were all around 70-80cm. While they were the biggest that any of us had pulled in this season we knew that they werent going to be weighty enough to put us in the lead of this competition. Around 1am, we called it a night and got some well-earned rest. Stay tuned for Day 2 as we chase the elusive big snapper.

13.01.2022 Wicked afternoon down golden beach with this 7.5 foot bronze whaler to open the season hopefully many more to come @ Golden Beach, Victoria

11.01.2022 Headed to Eildon for a couple of days around lunch time Xmas day. Unfortunately we couldnt find the fish but it is an amazing place to visit and camp. @ Lake Eildon

10.01.2022 GO FISH NAGAMBIE COMPETITION Jay and I registered for the Go Fish Nagambie Comp a while ago and had been looking forward to getting out on the water for the weekend. After setting up camp we headed on down to the festival hub to register. With around 2600 other people signed up it was going to be a challenging weekend. And everyone vying for that biggest Cod prize!!... Being the first fishing competition that either of us had signed up for, we spent the rest of the day getting geared up, ready to hit the water early the next day. We were up before the sun, keen to get going, and had the tinny humming upstream by 6.15am. Cod was on our minds and we were casting wherever we thought they might be lurking. We tried everything and everywhere we could think of, but after 4 hours we were still fish-less. Time for lunch and a regroup before the afternoon session. And that went pretty much the same way. We cast more lures than I can count! It wasnt until around 5pm that I finally hooked into a little Golden Perch - not what were after, but a welcome site after a long day. Back at camp, dinner and a discussion about what we were going to try the next day saw us exhausted and in the sack VERY early. We still wanted to try for that big prize and knew we had a full day in front of us. Saturday morning we were back on the river early, casting lure after lure. Have you tried it?? Its exhausting! And demoralising when by lunch we still hadnt seen hide nor hair of a Cod lurking below. To rub salt in the wound, we heard rumours of a monster Cod being caught up river! But we continued casting. Hoping that we might get lucky. It wasnt until late afternoon that I hooked another Golden Perch. A slightly bigger one this time at almost 43cm. But not big enough to put me in the running for any prizes. Sunday morning went the same as every day, casting and casting, but we just couldnt crack that Cod. Seeing that Ive just started fresh water fishing, I was happy to get a couple of fish. Out of the 2600 registered, I came in at 282. And at least I caught something. So many of the others didnt get a thing! This was a fantastic comp with plenty of prizes. Well be back again next year and hopefully well be able to claim one of those prizes then! Thanks to Jay for coming and hanging in there. It was tough fishing over the weekend and he kept going till the end. Tight Lines until the next adventure.

10.01.2022 Headed to Eildon for a couple of days around lunch time Xmas day. Unfortunately we couldn't find the fish but it is an amazing place to visit and camp. @ Lake Eildon

10.01.2022 Not long now until we get the shark rods back out and hopefully get a new PB this season

08.01.2022 As it gets closer to the middle of winter it can get harder to get up the enthusiasm to get out on the water. Luckily for Jay and myself, we love fishing too much that a little cold weather wont deter us. This Queens Birthday long weekend, we drove about two hours northeast of Melbourne to Lake Eildon. Its a popular spot for all sorts of water sports, not just fishing. But thats what we were heading there for, Cod fishing. We launched the tinny, loaded with all our gea...r, and heading out onto the lake to find a good spot to base our weekend adventure. The mouth of Big River looked like a good spot, so we beached the boat there and set up camp. Once wed set up, we headed back out on the water and started our hunt. We tried a few coves in the neighbourhood of our camp, which we thought the Cod might be interested in. We tried a variety, both shallow and deep, but we just couldnt get a bite. The next morning we woke to a thick blanket of fog. There wasnt a breath of wind and the fog was a sight to be seen. It kept us off the water for a little while, but the itch to fish got the better of us and we headed out into it. Sticking close to the shore so we didnt get lost in the fog, we cast shallow lures for a few hours. By breakfast time we still hadnt had any bites so headed in for a feed of bacon sangas. As the fog lifted, so did our spirits and our hopes of getting a Cod. Back out in the tinny we spent the rest of the day casting, to no avail. It wasnt our day. We sat by the fire that evening in camp, wondering what might have been. It rained overnight which soaked most of our gear. A break in the wind and rain early in the morning saw us make a dash back to the boat ramp where we hauled out the tinny, packed up and headed for home. Freshwater fishing has got to be the hardest type of fishing I have tried to date. By the end of the day my arms are sore with nothing to show for it, but I keep persisting as Im having a ball. Another fantastic weekend, where we learned more about freshwater fishing. Were positive that well eventually catch something. Tight lines everyone!

08.01.2022 The excitement of watching a mate bring in a shark is nearly as exciting as catching it your self. ****** The second day of our weekend fishing trip to Lake Tyres saw us head into nearby Lakes Entrance for breakfast. Fishing is hard work - you need to start on the right foot ;)... Lakes Entrance is a beautiful place. We spent the morning exploring a little and saw some amazing sights. Wildlife including assorted birds, pelicans, and goannas have all been spotted on our various trips to the region. And watching the boats going up and down the lakes there were some beauties there! One of the things that I love about fishing is being able to share my passion with my kids. I took my son down to the pier, where Matti and Bobby were trying to score a King Fish, and taught him a little about casting a rod. We practiced for a while in the calm waters of the lake, letting him get a feel for the motion of letting out the line. Once wed finished up at the Entrance, we headed back to the beach at Lake Tyres and got set up for another day of shark fishing. Let me tell you, this kayaking in the surf business it quite hard. I made a decent attempt in the slightly bigger surf today to get my baits out, but I just want making any headway. I eventually gave up and luckily Matti was a champion and paddled my baits out. He made it look easy, and I definitely need some more practice! But it was all worth it once he got both of our baits out. After all his effort, Matti was rewarded when his rod started peeling line Bang Shark ON! Watching Matti get his first shark after such an effort was just as exciting to me as it was to him. He ended up with a Bronze Whaler Shark around the 8 foot mark. A fantastic specimen, which was released to swim again for another day. Another fantastic weekend! I want to thank my son, Matti, and Bobby for making it great. Tight Lines and until my next adventure, I hope you catch a beast!

06.01.2022 Yesterday, we launched for a day of fishing out of Warneet, Vic. I had both my boys, Aidan and Brodie, with me as well as Jay Jamieson The weather wasnt in our favour to head to our usual spot up the top end of Western Port Bay, so we decided to head around to Lysarths and try that area.... We tried one spot about 14 meters deep, but not a lot was happening so we moved in closer to shore, in about 10 meters of water. The boys had an absolute ball here catching flatties and other baitfish. Brodie got his first ever fish, a nice table-sized gummy! Unfortunately, we accidentally let it fall back in to the water. To say Brodie was shattered is an understatement - we hadnt even taken any photos yet and Jay thought he was filming, but wasnt. We then moved around to Eagle Rock where I decided to set up my whiting rods for snapper. It turned out to be the best idea as I ended with a 73cm snapper on 8 pound line with an 30 pound leader. It was a blast fighting a fish where we both had the chance of winning! Until the next adventure - tight lines!

06.01.2022 Merry Xmas family an friends hope you all have an amazing day looking forward to big things in the new year Tight lines

05.01.2022 Heading towards winter, were switching things up from beach to freshwater fishing and checking out some new locations. Jay joined me last weekend for a trip up to Eildon, Victoria. Not having been there in years, Id forgotten what a beautiful location it is. Especially viewing it from the different perspective of on the water. At daybreak we found ourselves at the boat ramp rugged up in jumpers, jackets and beanies, and wishing that wed thought to bring gloves as well.... You can definitely tell that the cooler months are coming. We took to the lake in the tinny with the hope of getting a few hits on the lurses. It didnt take long! The first bite I got was a nice size Rainbow Trout. It put on a show, jumping out of the water, and put up an even better fight! It won that round and managed to spit the hooks. But I wasnt to be deterred! We kept casting and changing lures hoping to find another that might work. Freshwater fishing is a very new experience for me, so Im always trying out different lures to see what works for me. My next catch was a nice Yellowbelly , which was a first for me! By 11am we were starting to think that we should head home, but luckily we stuck it out for a little longer. Out of nowhere, Jay hooked into a nice Cod and after a great fight he landed it. At around 54cm it was a great fish. We thoroughly enjoyed fishing Eildon and it will definitely be one of our go to spots over the next months. Catching a few on our first visit always make a good impression Stay tuned for some more freshwater location. Tight lines everyone!

05.01.2022 First baits out for the season bring on the bronzies

05.01.2022 Short trip away with Jay searching new fishing spots I ended with donuts and Jay got 2 Was still a great trip an will keep searching for that magic spot

04.01.2022 Even though its still shark fishing season, we like to mix it up occasionally. Our most recent fishing adventure saw us out in the Gippsland Region of Victoria at Cowwarr Weir, about a two-hour drive from SE Melbourne. We wanted to try our hand at catching some Bass Fish from our kayaks in this freshwater stream. After some recent unsuccessful adventures in the kayak, I was a little wary of heading out again, but sucked it up and gave it another try!... With the hot weather weve been having recently, the weir was a popular spot for going for a swim to cool off in the heat. This would be an amazing destination to take the family out for a day. We headed upstream to get away from the crowds and to stay in the shade of the trees in the 36-degree heat. Flicking some hard body lures around we began trying to attract the Bass. My first catch of the day was the tiniest little Bass that Ive ever seen, only slightly bigger than the actual lure! We flicked lures for a couple of more hours, catching a few more small Bass, before heading back to shore for a bit of a break. Refreshed, we headed back out to flick lures for a few more hours. Jay had the right touch and was hooking little Bass, after little Bass. But the bigger fish were unfortunately keeping their distance. Even though we didnt get lucky and find a monster, we still caught 14 fish between us and had a fantastic day on the water. Ive been having a lot of fun learning about fresh water fishing and also learning how to fish from a kayak. Cowwarr Weir was a fantastic spot to get out and practice and Im sure well add it to our list of places to go back to. But for our next fishing adventure well be heading back to the beach for a bit more shark fishing. If you like reading about our fishing trips, then like this page to be notified when we post our next report. Till then Tight Lines!!

04.01.2022 With some extra time on our hands (it is the xmas shutdown period for a lot of people), Jay and I decided to make an impromptu fishing trip to eastern Victoria. Our destination was Cape Conran, which lies about 400km east of Melbourne. Its about a five-hour drive and is a good spot to try out some land-based shark fishing. The Bronze Whaler Shark, or Copper Shark, was our intended target. They can grow to a length of 3.3 metres (11 feet) and while they do not have any spe...cial distinguishing marks, they are a bronze to greyish brown colour. We headed out to Cape Conran in the late afternoon and arrived around 11:30pm. It was too late to do anything else but set up our swags and get a good nights sleep to be ready for the morning. An early 06:00am start saw us preparing our rods, the kayak, and the rest of the gear we would need for the day. At 07:00am, we were dragging everything down to the beach. It was going to be a beautiful day for fishing as there was no swell and no wind down on the beach. We baited up our big shark hooks and then Jay paddled out on the kayak to drop the hooks in deeper water. We set up three rods and then settled in for the wait. Thats the thing with land-based shark fishing theres a lot of sitting around and waiting for the rods to scream! And we waited and waited Finally, around 11:00am, my rod had a little run, but didnt snap the breakaway line. So, it was back to waiting. A few more hours passed when I noticed that my line was starting to drift sideways. I didnt think much of it and decided to wind it in to reset it. To my surprise, I found a six-foot Tiger Shark on the end of my line! Not only was this my first land-based shark, but also it appears that is quite a rare catch in Victorian waters (from what Ive heard). If youve heard of other Tiger Sharks being landed in Vic waters, let me know in the comments below. A couple of other friends, James and Bec, joined us at Cape Conran for the day as well. They had set out two baited rods. At around 3:00pm, James Spin Rod started bouncing and his line took off down the beach. It was amazing to watch someone hooked onto a big shark! And it was a long fight to get it into shore. And hour and a half later, and a kilometre or so down the beach, he finally landed a beautiful, solid, 9.5 foot Bronze Whaler. What a day! After an eventful 24 hours, we finished up by hauling all our gear back off the beach quite an effort after spending all day walking up and down the sandy beach. It was time to head home. A huge thank to Jay for paddling my bait out on this trip! Cheers, mate! Until my next fishing adventure, Tight Lines. (NB: all sharks were released today.)

03.01.2022 Tis the season so we decided to head out for a mid-week fish to celebrate! A night-time fishing adventure with Jay saw us on the hunt for some big grey subs. As we headed out from Warneet, the wind blew a little more then wed planned for so instead of at trip down towards Phillip Island, we stayed up the top end. First off, we heading to Gentle Annie in chase of some Whiting and got a handful of them in quick succession. But then it just stopped.... We then tried a different spot around Joes. We were hoping it might produce some gummys, but to our dismay, the weed was horrible so we just slept till morning. The next morning, we decided to head back for more whiting. Nothing at the first spot so we thought wed try somewhere else. Unfortunately, we forgot to bring up the berley pot, which disappeared after take off. We then wed try for squid at Tyabb Bank and brought in about 7 or 8 small ones. By this time the heat had gotten to about 34 degrees - very toasty!!! So we motored around to get a bit of a breeze to cool down. Once we were sufficiently cool, we headed to a mark just outside of the Warneet Channel where we ended up with four pinkys up to 55cm. Headed in just after lunch, after a great time, even it it was a little slow an hard work. But I just love it. Till the next time - tight lines!

03.01.2022 My latest solo venture began after launching at Warnett. I was chasing snapper and for most of the night I came up empty. There wasnt a lot happening out in the bay - a few bite-offs and a good old fight with an Eagle Ray helped to pass the time. Morning broke and so did the rain. But it was still as flat as a millpond. I put out fresh baits and... nothing! The big snapper rods just werent getting the job done. So, I decided to change it out for the Whiting gear and wou...ldnt you know it - they started biting! I ended the day with a 49cm salmon and 40 cm pinky. It was hard work for just these two, but definitely worth it to be out on the water!

02.01.2022 Fishing Comp this weekend at Nagambie! Will let you know how it went in a few days. Tight Lines

02.01.2022 Australia Day! A time for BBQs and escaping for the long weekend! A PERFECT time for a fishing trip, wouldnt you say? It was with great anticipation that we left Melbourne on Thursday afternoon. We had a big weekend of putting out shark baits planned, and so we were eager to get there.... There was Golden Beach, Victoria. We thought wed give this great spot another go and by heading down there early we were hoping to beat the crowd and grab a great spot to set up camp. We got the spot, but the weather was not so kind. The heat wave that most of Australia has been going though recently meant that Friday was a day of hiding in the shade and trying to stay cool. Even the possums were struggling! Matti played vet to three very hot and tired looking critters, giving them ice baths to try and cool them down. Finally, at around 6:30pm, the change came in, but we were too exhausted to do more than enjoy the breeze and share a few beverages. ____________________________________ Saturday was going to be the day! Or so we thought. Unfortunately the winds werent being to kind to us and we couldnt get the kayak through the chop to drop our bait lines past the breakers. Luckily, we came prepared with our surf rods! Late morning saw us casting these in the hope of a few salmon. Jays first cast landed a big Eagle Ray (which we kept for shark bait). I dont think my rod was working, though, as I couldnt even get a bite! LOL Early afternoon came and the winds had finally died down enough for us to get the big shark rods out! This was out time! But wouldnt you know it a few people in a tinny came past and caught my line! The reel screamed away and I ended up having to bring the line in. The wind had picked up again so there was no way I was getting my bait out again. That was me done for the day. Not long after, Matti decided to bring his line in as well. We were all surprised to see a small Banjo Shark on the end which was only slightly bigger than his bait! By his reaction you would have thought hed snagged a 10-foot Bronzie!! Priceless _________________________________________ Sundays forecast was for lighter winds, so we were up earlier and down on the beach putting out some pretty impressive baits. Jay did some fantastic paddling to get them all out for us huge thanks and we settled in for a long day on the beach. It was an almost perfect day for shark fishing nice and calm, no wind, and a cloudy sky. Wed been settled there for about five hours when suddenly the tide changed and took our baits. Ive never seen anything like it before. They were weighted down with two bricks, but the tide took them like they were just floating out there. After a long day, we reeled our lines in and headed back to our campsite. We had a great long-weekend fishing with great company and new friends. Unfortunately, no sharks this time, but well keep trying! Until next time, tight lines and keep fishing

02.01.2022 With some of the best conditions for shark fishing wed seen all season, we were hoping that this trip was going to be a fruitful one as we come to the end of the shark fishing season. __________________________________ After taking my younger son with me shark fishing a few weeks ago, it was time for my oldest son Brodie to get to experience my passion for shark fishing.... We arrived at Lake Tyers mid-afternoon and upon checking out the beach conditions we were pleased to find out that they were just about the best that wed seen for beach fishing all season. We quickly unloaded the cars and got all our gear straight down to the beach. We baited up and got the rods and reels setup. Then we paddled some baits, past the shore break. I paddled out my own two, which I havent done before, so I was pretty happy to do that. I must be getting better on the kayak! We had four rods out in pretty quick time and then settled back to hopefully get the bites we where hoping for. At about 7.30pm we started to see the fishing trawlers heading our way. This time I had put the baits closer to the bottom, in the hope that the trawlers would miss them this time. Unfortunately Jays rods got done over by the trawlers, so that just left my two soaking baits out there. We waited and waited, to no avail. So, at about 12.30am I decided to pull the rods in. The wind had blown up and it was also just starting to rain. We called it a night. The next morning we were up early and took Brodie in to Lakes Entrance for breakfast. I decided to ask him if he was enjoying his first trip away shark fishing. Thankfully, he said he was! Heading back to the beach, we tried to get more lines in the water. The surf was starting to rough up with the wind so Jay and I only ended up getting one out each. The wind and swell really picked up after that. Unfortunately, it was a fairly uneventful weekend when it came to sharks biting. I didnt get a single hit on my rods and that was with the bait soaking for over 20 hours! And only one hit on Jays and didnt take, so no luck there either After two days it was time to pull the rods, pack up, and head home. _____________________________ We all had an amazing weekend, but no sharks. Though this was the first weekend where I have paddled all my own baits, so Im pretty happy with that. I doubt well get another chance to go out shark fishing this season, but next season, hopefully, will be bigger and better than this year. Thanks to Jay for all the help and tips this season, as Ive gotten interested in shark fishing! Tight lines and enjoy whatever time you get to go out fishing.

01.01.2022 ‘GO FISH’ NAGAMBIE COMPETITION Jay and I registered for the ‘Go Fish’ Nagambie Comp a while ago and had been looking forward to getting out on the water for the weekend. It wasn’t until around 5pm that I finally hooked into a little Golden Perch - not what were after, but a welcome site after a long day. Back at camp, dinner and a discussion about what we were going to try the next day saw us exhausted and in the sack VERY early. We still wanted to try for that big prize and knew we had a full day in front of us. Saturday morning we were back on the river early, casting lure after lure. Have you tried it?? It’s exhausting! And demoralising when by lunch we still hadn’t seen hide nor hair of a Cod lurking below. To rub salt in the wound, we heard rumours of a monster Cod being caught up river! But we continued casting. Hoping that we might get lucky. It wasn’t until late afternoon that I hooked another Golden Perch. A slightly bigger one this time at almost 43cm. But not big enough to put me in the running for any prizes. Sunday morning went the same as every day, casting and casting, but we just couldn't crack that Cod. Seeing that I’ve just started fresh water fishing, I was happy to get a couple of fish. Out of the 2600 registered, I came in at 282. And at least I caught something. So many of the others didn't get a thing! This was a fantastic comp with plenty of prizes. We’ll be back again next year and hopefully we’ll be able to claim one of those prizes then! Thanks to Jay for coming and hanging in there. It was tough fishing over the weekend and he kept going till the end. Tight Lines until the next adventure.

01.01.2022 Success this weekend! I caught a shark unfortunately, not the type I was actually after but still a great experience. ___________________ On Friday night we decided to head somewhere not quite as far away as our recent fishing adventures. This time we made our way to Golden Beach, in the Gippsland region of Victoria, not far from Sale. ... We were up early on the Saturday and heading down to the beach to check out the conditions. The water was a bit rougher than we would have liked and it was going to be a tough slog getting our baits out past the breakers and into deeper water, but Jay was willing to give it a try. After some awesome paddling , Jay eventually got bait out soaking for each rod and the wait started. Matti heard we were out on the beach and wanted to join in the fun. He made it down around 1100 and got his bait straight out. It was a bit of bad luck that it broke away pretty much as soon as it went in the water as he had to get the next one out in much tougher conditions . Ive mentioned settling in for the long wait before, and this was definitely one of those days. After around 13 hours of sitting on the beach , the sun had set and the stars had come out, my rod finally started to peel line at around 2230. I had about a 25-minute fight on my hands trying to bring in what I though was going to be a Bronze Whaler. To all our surprise Id brought in a 7 foot Great White Shark! Great Whites are a protected species, so we quickly grabbed the one photo and got him straight back in to the water. In the process we noticed that this particular beast was tagged. We made sure we notified the interested parties. We dont actually target Great Whites when were out shark fishing. This guy was an accidental by-catch while we were chasing Bronze Whalers. This was a great short trip with great company again. Were looking forward to the Australia Day long weekend next week and well see if we can get some more sharks landed. Thanks again for following us and TIGHT LINES everyone.
