23.01.2022 A big thank you to all the owners who attended our K9 Snake Avoidance in Geraldton. Here is a short clip of one of the many Dog`s that completed our course. A gorgeous staffy who knows how to " Put on the brakes" so to speak. We test a Dog in many different ways for Snake Avoidance and this is one of them.... This is why Snake Avoidance should be trained by someone who knows Dog`s. How they think, move, develop an emotional connection to the snake and why. How to interrupt this connection and when too stop it in it`s tracks. You can`t train K9 Snake Avoidance because you have been in Dog`s just a few years, its not something you learn overnight. 21.01.2022 Master Otis had a lesson with us today after some time away for practice. Re-call work is more often than not a repetitive process. The important part is making yourself as the best thing since slice bread so the Dog has something good to engage with , then creating opportunity for reward after actions. Using food is ok to imprint the command but using food for the basis of training re-call doesn't cut it in our books. Otis will re-call for a ball, will your Dog? 13.01.2022 A little video of Snake Avoidance Training in Exmouth this past weekend. Jess and her Staffy Master Derek attended our course and we put Derek through many scenarios. One of which is our off-lead component for all Dog's that do our course. This simulates an off lead, normal everyday run in the park with the owner. Your not going to deliberately walk into a Snake with your Dog on lead are you ? A High percentage of K9 Snake bites occur off lead, mostly at home when you ca...n't see or help your Dog or out camping when your miles from medical care. We have to be sure your Dog knows what a Snake is and to stay well away if it sees one. Our refreshers all did amazingly well and have definitely remembered their training from last year. That's 12+ months retention rate from their 1st imprint. This tells us our methods are spot on.
