06.05.2022 STOCKTON BEACH RECOVERY At our September 28 Zoom meeting we were privileged to have Rob Boyd, Honorary Associate Professor, Earth Sciences with a very detailed presentation on Coastal Beach Erosion, particularly at Stockton. The interest he generated could be seen in the number and depth of the questions that followed.

16.04.2022 Education never stops, we continue to have a variety of excellent guest speakers during our Zoom meetings. GOT YOUR BACK SISTA Melissa Histon Founder, Director & CEO of this valuable organization addressed the Club at its September 14 Zoom meeting. Melissa is an inspirational speaker and explained as the registered charitable arm of The Sista Code movement, our vision is to see women and their children happy, thriving and living independently after escaping the trauma of d...omestic violence. As such, Got Your Back Sista offers benevolent relief and support to women and children escaping domestic violence and are at risk of living below the poverty line. We give a hand up for them to begin again and live independently. Our Newest Member We like to know a little about our members and it was our newest member, Christine Rogers’, turn to tell us about herself. It was helping at the Throsby Creek Clean Up in June this year that we first met Christine. Christine has had an interesting and varied professional life and varied general interests particularly in the area of the environment and climate change. Welcome. Christine Rogers and Howard Bridgman

01.04.2022 RYDA We ran a very successful program for 3 schools over 4 days in June this year and had every intention of following it up with a 5 day program for another 5 schools in November but unfortunately due to uncertainty of the COVID situation and school organisation limitations and priorities this has been cancelled. We are hopeful and feeling positive that we will be able to run the program for Year 11 students in two sessions next year. The dates will be the week of 16th to 20th May and week of 17th to 21st October to be held again at the Broadmeadow Showground precinct.

21.03.2022 Virtual dining It is so important to maintain contact and to try to have a little fun. At this weeks zoom meeting, not wanting to miss out on our regular dinner social, we zoomed in with our chosen edibles and beverages. We welcomed Kay Carter President of Pennant Hills Rotary club and once again being able to involve Howard and Diana who are still unable to return home from Launceston. It was not quite the same but still enjoyable and we can make sure we stay in contact and see that we are doing OK.

07.03.2022 WHAT HAVE WE BEEN UP TO? THE YEAR IN REVIEW BY PAST PRESIDENT KEITH On reviewing the year, I note the following achievements by our Club: We continued to meet regularly initially via Zoom but finally face to face always a better option.... Removal of the old piano from Mayfield West WAITAM in PNG saw our Club contributing to the supply of soap to scattered islands Preparation and (after murals by Up&Up) sealing of the Kooragang pylons for Stockton Bridge cleaning up a wall in Newcastle and a footpath at Beresfield for Up&Up to mural. Assisted Newcastle Theatre Company by administering the grant they received for improvements to their theatre complex, the largest community run theatre in NSW. Our Garage Sale proved quite successful and cleared some stuff out of our container! Bunnings BBQs were held twice this year with funds for community benefit. Total Tools BBQs were also held and I Am Woman, and it was highly successful. The World Festival of Magic was run again and provided the Club with funds for our youth projects. Funds over the years for HMRI and HNE Kids Health now totals: HMRI: $150,404 ($5,000 this year) HNE Kids: $167,275 ($4,800 this year) Our AGM was held at the Ho Wah restaurant and provided a President to see us into the new district. Our New Year began at a picnic at Ash Island and another great start for this year. Australia Day at Stockton was a resounding success, despite the heat. Ava Slee returned from France and gave a notable presentation on her travels. She has certainly matured from her time and experiences overseas. Graffiti removal continues regularly and particularly on Graffiti Removal Day (held in March this year). We provided a BBQ lunch for the Girls Journey to Success program at the PCYC a program coordinated by NSW Police to inspire ongoing educational endeavor from girls of varied ethnic backgrounds. During the time normal dinner meetings were unable to be held I was pleased to see that Club members donated more than $2,000 to Soul Café. The Throsby Creek project had several setbacks due to COVID, but an extremely successful day at Islington Park was held, in brilliant weather. Further school educational visits this financial year will complement the program. The Rotary Youth Driver Awareness program was accepted as a project and began in June, with good outcomes, although we are still learning. Our meetings both Zoom and face to face had many fabulous informative and entertaining guest speakers The Club continues to contribute significantly to the community and under Stephen’s leadership I’m sure this will endure. 04.03.2022 Serve To Change Lives

26.02.2022 Guest Speaker Chris McGrath ShelterBox ShelterBox is an international disaster relief organisation tayloring aid to suit the needs of families that have lost their homes. Their partnership with Rotary International is fundamental to their success. This special relationship means they can count on the support of an international network of 1.2 million Rotarians Chris McGrath’s presentation to the Club was very well received with members greatly impressed with the work this organisation achieves in very difficult circumstances.

08.02.2022 Graffiti Removal Day Sunday 28th March The Club has been thanked by the Graffiti Removal Day coordinator for its efforts in removing graffiti from Stockton Bridge, Tourle Street Bridge and Mayfield. 13 club members were able to restore 350 square metres of vandalized surfaces to a less offensive condition. After finishing the allocated areas, members assembled under Stockton Bridge for a well earned BBQ lunch.... All those participating enjoyed the social aspect of the day while still contributing to the well being of the community. Another graffiti removal day will be required to finish the local area, so any volunteers are most welcome to join in. Many thanks to everyone and especially Damien for once again coordinating our efforts See more
