24.01.2022 Meet the horses of RDA! Banjo is owned by RDA Daylesford. They purchased him in 2018 after receiving a grant from the Commonwealth Bank Staff Fund. Daylesford were nominated by their local branch staff members for this grant that celebrated 100 years of the Commonwealth Bank. Banjo is quiet and bomb proof. He does not have the most elegant of paces and so is unlikely to win a dressage competition. He is however an ideal RDA horse for beginning riders. Nothing fusses him. On o...ne occasion his young rider was attempting to knock over blocks with a stick (stick pegging). She missed the peg totally and knocked Banjo between his legs on his belly. He didn't move a muscle and when the rider collected herself, he continued around the obstacle course. At the agistment property where Banjo is living during COVID, he is always first to the hay. He loves his food and expects everyone who comes up to him to offer a treat. Banjo is pictured below, thoroughly enjoying his food! See more
24.01.2022 Volunteers have been working hard across Victoria to ensure facilities are in tip top condition to prepare for a return to riding. The RDA Daylesford volunteers physically distance to get essential maintenance completed!
24.01.2022 RDA Victoria have spent the last 2 days working variously with the Department of Justice, Department of Health & Human Services, the Department of Jobs, Precincts & Regions and VicSport as well as liaising with Equestrian Victoria and Pony Club to formulate a standardised and approved exemption policy on horse welfare and care. The Victorian Government have been able to confirm that any services connected with animal health, husbandry or welfare are able to remain open as lon...g as they have a COVID-19 Safe Plan in place. RDA Centres that have submitted and had their COVID-19 Plans approved will be compliant as long as, where necessary, they incorporate the Stage 4 curfew restrictions. RDA Victoria is awaiting formal Government advice regarding travel and care for horses under COVID-19 Stage 3 and Stage 4 Restrictions. A letter of authority and an email providing further details has been sent to Centre gmail accounts for authorised emergency horse care and welfare volunteers to use when looking after our wonderful horses. For more information please contact [email protected] Stay safe!
24.01.2022 Now we are looking at a gradual reopening of Victoria, with changes to how we have to manage Centres and Clubs, there is no better time to talk about how to make our community as COVID-19 safe as possible. Join Edwina Boase-Stratford at 4pm on Friday 2 October 2020 to discuss creating COVID Safe Centres. Edwina is RDA Victoria's State Coaching Coordinator, a final year student, Master of Ergonomics, Safety and Public Health, RDAA National Assessor and RDA Level 2 Coach. 24.01.2022 RDA Top End Centre will be the first RDA Centre to gradually return to activities. They have developed a comprehensive staged recovery plan and will be our pioneers in this new COVID-19 environment. The NT Government is the first to lift restrictions due to their low community transmission cases. RDA Victoria continues to work with the Victorian State Government and other sports to develop a return to play recovery plan. RDA State Members can join the RDAA Zoom web meeting on Tuesday to hear more about preparing for recovery efforts and planning for a staged approach to return to RDA services.

23.01.2022 Thank you to all of our incredible volunteers who continue to look after and care for our wonderful horses. As of 11.59pm Wednesday 22 July 2020 if you live within metropolitan Melbourne or Mitchell Shire, you must wear a face covering whenever you leave your home, unless an exception applies. A face covering needs to cover both your nose and mouth. It could be a face mask or shield.... If you live in other parts of Victoria it is recommended you wear a face covering when you leave home and are in situations where it is difficult to maintain physical distance of 1.5 metres between yourself and others. https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/face-coverings-1159pm-wednesday * If you have even the mildest of symptoms, please isolate and get tested. * Stay at least 1.5m apart. * Maintain hygiene regimens - wash or sanitise your hands for at least 20 seconds, use cough and sneeze ettiquette. * Stay at home, stay safe and reduce the risk of transmission.

20.01.2022 Introducing the horses of RDA - meet Pepper! After finishing her racing career as a harness horse, Pepper made her way to becoming a trusted and reliable part of RDA Bundoora Park's team. Pepper has a beautifully quiet and respectful nature, perfect for relaxing a troubled mind. Pepper brings joy to all her riders and her quirky personality will always spark a laugh. Her favourite things to do are playing in the sprinklers and splashing in the dam (quite often in the middle o...f winter!). Oh and let’s not forget her much loved morning coffee shared with Jenny! Being a standardbred, Pepper’s riders enjoy her smooth and therapeutic stride however, we must select the bravest and the fittest of volunteers to keep up with her enormous trot! We are so very lucky to have the pleasure of having this beautiful mare. There is no volunteer or rider who does not fall in love her. See more

07.01.2022 RDA Victoria has been working closely with the Victorian State Government, Vicsport and RDA Australia developing a template for what is being called a Return to Play a carefully staged return to operations. Our duty of care towards our many vulnerable participants and volunteers is paramount and RDA Victoria is committed to keeping all our members and participants safe in an uncertain environment. Victorian Board and staff meetings continue across this week and weekend to... ensure we have a carefully planned template which will then be sent to Victorian Government for advice. This document will provide specific information on how to plan for a safe return. However, the roll-out will vary at a practical level in implementation across the organisation and we will be working closely with each Centre to understand and assist with the various challenges each will face in coming weeks and months. Due to the specific nature of the risk to vulnerable participants and the impossible challenge of meeting social distancing requirements in almost all cases, we are advising there is no change to our current position regarding rider program participation. We are aware that other RDA Centres in other states are beginning operations and that RDA Australia has Return to Play’ guidance. However, returning to riding has to be managed within the limitations/guidelines set in each individual State, with all decisions based upon risk assessment considering jurisdiction and directives from State Government not all States are in the same position at this time and this is recognised at a National level. We know the continued closure of our programs is affecting everyone, not the least our participants and families. We are looking forward to resuming activity as soon as possible we miss seeing you all - but not before it is safe to do so. Keep watching our Facebook page and website for further updates - thank you for your patience! See more
