19.01.2022 Supporting our children's emotional development when they are young is so important for their mental health as they get older. This article has some great tips on how to do this, some are so simple, you may already be doing it without realising. :) https://www.facebook.com/skye.mcintyr/posts/498852597124155

19.01.2022 Discrimination is only learnt if we teach it!

18.01.2022 We are celebrating NAIDOC week this week! Over the week we will be doing all sorts of activities that will deepen our understanding and respect for Aboriginal history and culture.

11.01.2022 Loving this jumper that rolled into daycare this morning for NAIDOC celebrations!

05.01.2022 Just the two of us on this sunny day, so we took ourselves on a walk. While walking, we had a little scavenger hunt to see what shapes we could find in our local community. Instead of ticking them off, we drew each shape and took a photo as we found them. Back at daycare and we have printed the photos and cut them out to match and stick next to the shapes on the list. Such a nice little experience with lots of learning of opportunities along the way

05.01.2022 People often ask me what do I mean "learn through play" and what is the significance of this learning... this. Letting children think, problem solve, come up with new ideas, investigate, reflect on why something happened... these are all valuable learning skills they need to learn in early childhood in order to continue their learning as they grow. So take a second to step back next time a child can't quite open something or isn't sure how to put things together... they may surprise you!

05.01.2022 Who else has had this day?

04.01.2022 This years NAIDOC theme is "languages matter". We have been looking at different ways of expressing language in traditional Aboriginal culture, including through art and symbols. The children were even inspired to do some communicating of their own as they leave symbol messages for each other on the pavers. These activities have lead to the most gorgeous, child lead conversations about the similarities and differences between Australia's many cultures.

04.01.2022 Put your hand up for NAIDOC! This week we have been participating in the "Put your hand up for NAIDOC" community program. The children have had a great time painting their hands while talking about indigenous culture. We used sticks to paint these hands, which sparked one of our schoolies to share her knowledge about natural tools traditionally used by Aboriginal people. A beautiful child lead conversation about the differences and similarities between our cultures ... Barkuma Neighbourhood Centre Kurri Kurri Community Centre Kurri Kurri Public School

03.01.2022 There is something really magical about the way children tell stories This work in progress is about a man and a women who live together in a grass house in the jungle. They are visited by lots and LOTS of gorilla friends and one baby elephant friend.... sounds a little familiar but still. The enthusiasm was there
