18.01.2022 The response to the COVID-19 version of our Community Connections Directory over the past few weeks has been phenomenal. This booklet was originally an initiati...ve of Community Services students at TAFE NSW - Newcastle and was created specifically as a resource for guests who attend our annual Hunter Homeless Connect Day event. In recent years, with changes in TAFE student capacity, management and updating of this directory has become the responsibility of the HHCD Event Coordinator, and until this year it had only been printed in hard copy (thanks to TAFE) to distribute at the actual event. As COVID-19 made its way through our region back in March, we were forced to postpone the HHCD event to October 2020, and it was then we decided to use the directory as a connection tool for the broader community. As businesses closed their doors, many found themselves without an income and not knowing who to turn to for support. An updated version of the directory including current changes to services became a priority and we set about making it happen. After several weeks of email communications requesting updates from services, the data was collated and a new COVID-19 version of the directory was created, for immediate distribution throughout the community. This wouldn't have been possible without the ongoing support of Compass Housing Services with our dedicated HHCD Event Coordinator, Michelle Faithfull and graphic design contribution from Julienne Constable, Orica for funding the printing of 2000 hard copies and of course our hard working Connecting the Hunter Program Coordinator, Nissa Phillips for personally delivering them to services, retail outlets, govt and non-govt organisations and businesses across our region. We're very proud of the team effort, which enables us to continue to align with our mission, and that is to "Build an inclusive community with zero judgment." Here are a few photos of front-line staff from some of the services and businesses who are very grateful to have the directory on hand.
