11.01.2022 After the Government introduced a News Media and Digital Platforms Mandatory Bargaining Code ensuing that news media businesses are fairly remunerated for the content they generate helping to sustain public interest journalism in Australia, Facebook and Google threatened to pull services to Australia. We all heard the threats and Google is now negotiating, but who thought it would actually happen?? Facebook has banned Australian publishers and people from sharing or viewing news content. Some Facebook pages belonging to Australian government organisations, including emergency services and weather forecasters, have started to reappear on Facebook after earlier being blocked. Watch this space ladies and gentlemen! Our new digital life as we know it may well change. For better or for worse?
