24.01.2022 Even the most simple of everyday tasks, that others take for granted, can be a challenge if you can't read.

22.01.2022 Does your child have dyslexia? That can make things at school pretty tough if the right support isn't offered. As part of Dyslexia Awareness Month, Code Read is hosting a helpful webinar. Find out more at the link below. https://www.facebook.com/events/627339001310291/

19.01.2022 While dyslexia can make reading more difficult, with the right instruction, almost all individuals with dyslexia can learn to read. Learn more with IDA's "Dyslexia at a Glance," at https://dyslexiaida.org/dyslexia-at-a-glance/

12.01.2022 Reading instruction+ teddy bears. What's not to like?

10.01.2022 Early identification of dyslexia is so important.

09.01.2022 This myth is a particularly persistent one (and is up there with coloured overlays and lenses.) Dyslexia isn't a vision issue, so fonts and glasses won't help. What does help is teaching children to read using evidence-based approaches that begin with sounds and work through to meaning.

09.01.2022 October is Dyslexia Awareness month. Dyslexia is the most common of learning disabilities. It affects up to 1 in 5 people and is the most common cause of reading and spelling difficulties. It's a lifelong condition. But, with appropriate instruction, people with dyslexia can learn to read. In fact, imaging studies show that brain activity in people with dyslexia changes when they receive proper instruction. Like to know a little more about dyslexia? This article from Understo...od.org is a good place to start. #dyslexiaawareness #dyslexiaawarenessmonth #dyslexiaeducation #reading

08.01.2022 Without intervention, children who are poor readers at the end of first grade almost never acquire average-level reading skills by the end of elementary school ...(Francis et al., 1996; Juel, 1988; Shaywitz et al., 1999; Torgesen and Burgess, 1998). #dyslexiamyths #CodeRead #dyslexiaawarenessmonth Source: GAAB LAB 2019, Dyslexia Myths, accessed September 2020,

05.01.2022 Another lovely idea from Phonics Family. This is a neat way of using your catalogues before you chuck them in the recycling.

04.01.2022 Equally so, when you feel like you are making a difference.

03.01.2022 Highly recommend any resources from Spelfabet.

02.01.2022 Are you an Amazon Prime member? Among their Prime Day deals today are two of my most-used gadgets when it comes to all-things reading and writing: 1. The Lenovo Ideapad Duet Chromebook is currently $299 for Prime members (regular retail price is $499, though it's often discounted for less) This Chromebook has a nice and clear screen and allows you to use Android apps as well as everything Internet, including all things Chrome. It's particularly useful for Chrome extensions su...ch as text to speech, speech to text and annotating tools. And, it actually includes a keyboard and case. 2. Kindle readers are also $50 off today for Prime members. The most affordable Kindle is $89. I'm all for books of all sorts but have been a keen digital book reader for a decade or so. I made the switch from traditional books when I had a severe tendonitis injury and couldn't hold a book to read. Kindles made reading possible for me. Now, I just like having a library of books on hand, a built-in dictionary, and my tired old eyes like the option of making text bigger and sharper for night-time reading. I'm not an affiliate, but happened upon these deals during some procrasti-browsing. Worth a look if you've been looking for something to encourage your child's reading, or an affordable laptop-alternative for school work and Zoom tutoring calls :-)
