23.01.2022 Gotta love this. In do this in my head while walking around the neighbourhood. Wishing we all got around by electric vehicles and pedal power so the roadside edibles could actually be edible.

22.01.2022 This public reserve was until recently one of the best mushrooming locations on public land on the mornington peninsula. That is until 'managers' of so called social/community and publicly owned entities decided that they knew best. Apparently nurturing local social enterprises based on the UNESCO man and biosphere program isn't on their agenda. Folks, this area is within the buffer zone and a stones throw from the core of the Westernport biosphere. Many native species and a...t least one local entrepreneur (me) who has adopted the Sustainable Biosphere business model have foraged for food in this area... Sustainable food. Just around the corner from here another strip of land that could feed many urban foragers has had its pine trees lopped and another has had large gates and no trespassing signs erected...on publicly owned land. (Hey you conspiracy theorists...if this isn't an example of ignorant 'prolitarians' supporting the huge supermarket conglomerates by forcing urban foragers to have fewer free and or natural options to find food, while at the same time eliminating native animals that get in the way of housing and factory developments... I don't know what is?) Unfortunately, I'm one of only a very few mornington peninsula residents who has actually attended an international UNESCO biosphere forum attended by many experts in the field sharing their knowledge and expertise, and has learnt exactly what a biosphere actually is and should be...(as well as being involved in the inception, foundation and creation of this biosphere.) I would like to encourage these 'managers' to do some research before they destroy another local business and yet more habitat. We are not planting and or creating enough new habitat yet on the Mornington Peninsula to be destroying more of what little remains. I'm available to provide some professional advice if you like. That might make up for the business I've lost...and you might just learn to walk the talk!

20.01.2022 We are at the Womin Djeka Balnarring Ngargee today... Serving up a weedy feast.

20.01.2022 Less than 10m away from Sandor and Sharon, I feel like a groupie. I can almost smell the sauerkraut on their hands.

19.01.2022 I’d love to see more of these community gardens and food forests popping up in the outer suburbs...

19.01.2022 I keep hearing commentators asking ‘What are we to do until a vaccine is available....to save our communities and economy? Methinks we have something close enough and near enough... Support our Local Economies...yeah, ACTUALLY SUPPORT OUR LOCAL ECONOMIES. Don’t just talk about it.... How you ask? Here’s a quick summary...a couple of Aussies named David Holmgren and Bill Mollison created, invented a methodology called Permaculture (short for Permanent Culture). Then a clever bloke in the UK named Rob Hopkins inspired by the permaculture methodology developed a program named Transition Towns to help deal with a lagging economy and unemployment in his community. Do you want to know more...? Take 2 minutes...

17.01.2022 That fabulous smell of freshly foraged pine forest mushrooms cooked in butter and garlic... I look forward to this every year.

16.01.2022 Perhaps the Agaricon could help we humans to build immunity to some of the worst viruses causing concern in the world today. It’s now even more important to make sure forests aren’t destroyed.

15.01.2022 Crazy weather, crazy virus, crazy people...empty shelves... Thankfully the unusual weather has caused the edible weeds to flourish.Crazy weather, crazy virus, crazy people...empty shelves... Thankfully the unusual weather has caused the edible weeds to flourish.

11.01.2022 We don’t have many members here at the moment but I’m going to use this page to share some food security ideas with the Tyabb community, very relevant to the cu...rrent health crisis we are experiencing. What we are experiencing at the moment is very relevant to the Transition Methodology. We’ve recently noticed that our food system isn’t coping. Add to this the fact that people are losing their jobs and we have a food security problem. On a recent supermarket trip it was easy to notice the empty shelves in the protein section of the store. For many years I’ve been fascinated by local community enterprises and social resilience projects that involve food such as food swaps and fruit exchanges. Unfortunately we can’t get together in groups to swap the access fruit and vegetables we’ve grown in our gardens but perhaps we could try something different. I’ve noticed that there are a number of fruit trees in Tyabb with an abundance of juicy lemons and oranges and apples on the trees and an equal amount of fruit rotting on the ground. I’m sure there are a number of backyard gardeners, especially since the Bunnings seed section is empty, who will have an abundance of vegetables that they may wish to exchange so that the family can eat a variety of foods. The old library at the Tyabb hall is still empty and unused and would make a great place to set up an honesty store similar to the roadside honest shops we occasionally see in country areas. BUT, considering what we’ve been seeing in the toilet paper isles, we may need to ask for volunteers to supervise the store, say three or four people per day? I recon that in some instances the fruit is going to waste because the elderly owner of the fruit tree cannot harvest the fruit. This is a perfect opportunity for volunteers to get out of the house and help us to pick the fruit, share a fair amount with the trees owner and deliver the excess to the food swap/fruit exchange. BYO PPE Please share this post with local Tyabb resident you know who might want to help out, to contribute excess fruit and vegetables, pick excess fruit or supervise the exchange. If we can get any interest, we will communicate with the council to gain access to the room and any support the council can help. Being aware of the local Health, Hope and Happiness policy, which includes details of the shires food security policy means that the council has already committed to helping communities to develop such projects. http://www.circlesoffood.org/urban-and-regional-food-decla/

11.01.2022 Foraged my first few meals of pine mushrooms for 2020. A whole month and a half earlier than last year. Unfortunately, if restrictions continue, we won't be able to host workshops this year. If they do ease before the mushrooms season ends we will consider hosting smaller groups and shorter tours.

08.01.2022 Certainly is a most excellent bike! https://cargocycles.com.au/treadlie-competition-winner-sco/

01.01.2022 Interested in water, land and food? Yeah you are... How about helping us to achieve sustainability in our Biosphere?

01.01.2022 Looks like a few saffron milk caps popped up early about one to two weeks ago after the thunderstorms, but this weeks warm weather and rain turned them all to mush.

01.01.2022 A great day for a forage...so we did.. . and yes we are working on hosting some tours now that the restrictions have been eased. Got a few wrinkles to iron out first. Watch this space. #readesweeds
