15.01.2022 I'm overwhelmed and delighted that my book this story of passion and art, of politics and change, of seeking out beauty in difficult times has won the Young Adult category of this year's Indie Book Awards. Congratulations to all shortlisted and longlisted titles. Sending enormous love to all the indie bookshops around the country for all of your support, and for finding readers for This One is Ours, for getting through the bin-fire year of 2020 with courage, creativity, and endless energy (ok, yes, I'm sure you found energy's end). You are the heartbeat of your community. Thank you for keeping on beating.

11.01.2022 A B Endacott and I spoke via zoom towards the end of last year, for an interview for The Nerd Daily an interview I went in nervously, because her review of This One is Ours had been serious and thoughtful and a true critique. I loved it, and knew our conversation would go deeper than ‘where do you get your ideas from?’ Alice speaks French, she knows its history and about its culture. She already knew about May 68 (part of the great inspiration behind my story). She knows ab...out writing, and how a successful book comes together and comes apart. Our conversation forced the rusty cogs of my curious, conceptual, self-analytical, writer brain to move in ways I have been too lazy and distracted to turn them for a while now. She has been generous relaying our chat, tied my thoughts together more coherently than they truly came out, and reading over the final piece has been like oil to those rusty cogs. I write for pleasure, but I also write with purpose, and I think I had forgotten this. You can find the interview here https://www.thenerddaily.com/kate-odonnell-author-interview/ See more
11.01.2022 I'm very excited to be sitting down with Nina Kenwood and Marion Lennox at the Queenscliffe Literary Festival to chat all about why YA readers respond to romance despite the complexity of their lives. When? Sunday 16 May at 4.00 pm Where? Point Lonsdale Primary School Hall ... It will be worth the drive! In fact, spend the weekend! There's so many fabulous bookish panels all over the weekend. You can also take a walk along the beach, watch the ships go through the point, get an ice cream from the Scandinavian Ice Cream shop in Queenscliff...
08.01.2022 Doesn't THIS ONE IS OURS have such a good spine? I feel like it punches its way off the shelf (all thanks to design spellcaster Astred Hicks)! A good spine is important, especially after that first heady month of publication when your book is slotted into alphabetically adjacent authors and new books are given the coveted face-out space. I love thinking about all the shelves my books slip into. Which stories they're nestled next to. Do you organise your shelves alphabetica...lly? By theme? Colour? Completely randomly, like I do? And the virtual shelves too! If you're keeping a log of your 2021 reading, it would be extra nice if you added This One is Ours to your @the.storygraph to-read pile ... tinyurl.com/1139yd9h #StoryGraph #TBRshelf #ToRead #AmReading #ReadingChallenge
