25.01.2022 Since the pandemic and lockdown started, I also had to stop collecting books around the city for health and safety reasons. This meant I also had to put a halt to my READ Philippines Book Charity Project until things eased up a bit. But now I'm back... slowly. Last Friday night, I got a daily notification from Kijiji -- the website where I usually get my donated books -- and saw free National Geographic magazines, which I haven't seen since the pandemic started for obvious re...asons I believe. So, I immediately messaged the owner and told him about READ Philippines and that I would be happy to get all of them. He messaged back and told me I can get it today at his dad-in-law's place. So, yesterday on a bright and snowy Saturday morning, I got to met husband and wife Blake and Marilyn and to my surprise, aside from the National Geographic magazines, they also donated most of the books in her late dad's library. I told them I would bring all the books from their basement up to my vehicle but next thing I knew, they were helping me carry them up a flight of stairs then down their front stairs to my vehicle. Marilyn told me that her dad, who was an Army veteran who died this March at 97 years old, would be so happy that his book and magazine collections are going to be sent to young students in the Philippines and help them with their education. Marilyn said that she was also happy to learn that the Canadian Legion also donated books to my cause because her dad as a veteran was part of the Legion too. Thank you Blake and Marilyn and your late dad for your generosity and big heart. My fellow Calgarians never cease to amaze me that's why I love this city and my province -- it is so full of kind-hearted and generous people from all walks of life and background. Time to wipe and disinfect these books, pack them in boxes and hopefully send them soon to a public school in the Philippines. #ReadPhilippinescharity #bookdonations #generouspeople #generosity #thankGodforgenerouspeople #letshelptheyouth #books #readingcanchangelives #generouscalgarians #educationisthekeytosuccess #readingislearning #letshelpothers #read #readtoachieveyourdreams #thankyou #sponsors #makeadifference #Philippines
20.01.2022 Decluttering? Let us help you #upcycle your books! Donate and let kids in the Philippines find magic in your books.
16.01.2022 Once upon a time, our go to for research is the library and the set of its encyclopedia. There are some homes who were fortunate enough to own their own sets! But then came Google. And the encyclopedias gathered dust. Now, if you are one of those blessed enough to still have your encyclopedias at home and is no longer using them, we ask that you donate to READ Philippines. We will send these to the provinces in the country and some schools will be happy to finally have their own sets after decades.
13.01.2022 BOXES OF BOOKS FOR PRIETO DIAZ NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL Just like their last name, the donors/sponsors for these books I'm sending to Prieto Diaz National High School is my cousin Feliciano Donor and his wife Epoie Alba who are based in British Columbia, Canada. My Paras-Donor cousins are from the Municipality of Prieto Diaz in the province of Sorsogon, Philippines and I've been there a couple of times before and for me it's where I tasted the best Pili nuts in Bicolandia. Our ph...oto below is from last year when my kids and I visited him and his family for a vacation. My kids and I were supposed to visit them again this year but due to the coronavirus pandemic, we are so sad that we won't be able to. But thank you my dear cousin for your generosity and helping young students in our beloved province.Thank you. Again, my never ending thank you to my dear friend Forex Cargo owner Emma Bohol-Salameh for always supporting my book charity project and helping me make a difference in students' lives. #ReadPhilippinescharity #bookdonations #generouspeople #generosity #thankGodforgenerouspeople #letshelptheyouth #books #readingcanchangelives #generouscalgarians #educationisthekeytosuccess #readingislearning #letshelpothers #read #readtoachieveyourdreams #thankyou #sponsors #makeadifference #Philippines
13.01.2022 How can one person make a positive change in a child's life? By donating gently used or even new books to READ Philippines. By doing so you contribute to the learning experiences of a child in the provinces. Be one with us as we help promote love of reading and literacy amongst young Filipinos!
