24.01.2022 Yes! Never was this more accurate than in relation to learning to read. Despite the scientific evidence proving otherwise, many schools insist that ‘sight ...words’ are a vital part of teaching children to read. Our kids get sent home each week with a list of words to learn by rote. We push and push in the hope they’ll remember them because then they’ll be reading! They’ll have the ANSWERS. Right? Wrong!! Learning ‘sight words’ means they’ll know a small number of words. But if we teach them how to crack the code they’ll be able to PROBLEM SOLVE and decipher all kinds of words. Now that’s reading! Is your child’s school still sending home sight words to ‘help’ with reading? I remember ‘ludicrous’ being on my son’s sight word list in Grade 3. I may have had a word or two to say about that. What crazy words have appeared on your child’s spelling list? Share below

22.01.2022 Can you help us? We need to spread the word about how best to help children who are at risk of long-term literacy difficulties or dyslexia. Screening can catch these at-risk kids from as early as 5 years of age. Our PD workshop covers this and more! So, please share with teachers, speech pathologists, psychologists and tutors. You can help by sharing this post or cut and paste this link into an email/DM/SMS for us https://learn.read3.com.au/pd-online/ Thanks, Robyn & Kate
