13.02.2022 It is with a very heavy heart I am posting this update on the Station Master House, thought to be built by Gilbert Burnett about June 1886 when he took out a mo...rtgage for 250 pounds located at 509 Main Road, Wellington Point You may recall Council was recently involved in P&E Court proceedings in regard to the demolition of this old house which is the subject of inclusion on the local heritage register in the Planning Scheme. The application before the Court sought the exercise of the Court’s discretion to excuse non-compliance in this case the substantial start of the demolition within 2 months of the issue of the permit. The permit was issued on 17 November 2020. Following a two day hearing last month, His Honour Judge Jones yesterday decided to excuse non-compliance with s.71(2) of the Building Act having regard to the sequence of events and the impact of the Minister’s Stop Work Order, which prevented the contractor from commencing the demolition. This means the demolition can now proceed. I understand may occur shortly.

25.01.2022 UNLAWFUL PROSTITUTION CHARGES - REDLANDS Seven people have been charged in relation to unlawful prostitution after police raided four businesses in Brisbane’s ...bayside suburbs. Detectives from the Bayside CIB, with assistance from Crime and Intelligence Command’s Prostitution Enforcement Taskforce executed search warrants last week on four premises one on Panorama Drive Thornlands, one on West Avenue Wynnum and two on Old Cleveland Road Capalaba. It will be alleged the premises were operating falsely under the guise of legitimate massage parlours. The protracted operation commenced with assistance from Redland City Council, after police received multiple complaints from the Redlands area. A 40-year-old Upper Mount Gravatt woman was charged with advertising prostitution offences following the search of the Thornlands premises, located a short distance away from a school. She was issued with a Notice to Appear in Cleveland Magistrates Court on January 19. A 50-year-old Calamvale woman and a 35-year-old woman were charged with knowingly participating in prostitution offences during the search of the Old Cleveland Road premises. Both were issued with a Notice to Appear in Cleveland Magistrates Court on January 19. A 31-year-old Manly West man was charged during the search of the same premises, with being in places reasonably suspected of being used for prostitution. He was issued with a Notice to Appear in Cleveland Magistrates Court on January 19. A 47-year-old Sunnybank woman was given a Notice to Appear for advertising prostitution offences at a separate premises on Old Cleveland Road. She is due to appear in Cleveland Magistrates Court on January 19. A 50-year-old Browns Plains woman and 34-year-old Kenmore Hills woman were charged with knowingly participating in prostitution during the search of the West Avenue premises. Both were issued with a Notice to Appear in Wynnum Magistrates Court on January 18. Investigators are continuing to work with council and landlords to reduce this illegal activity. Police would like to thank the community for reporting concerns to Crime Stoppers and encourage members of the public to continue to do so.

16.01.2022 BREAKING: Queensland school students will learn at home for the first five weeks of Term 2, with schools only open for the children of essential workers. The mo...ve to the home-based learning model starts on Monday, 20 April and will be in place until at least Friday, 22 May. All students who can learn from home are to stay at home. School staff, unless they are vulnerable due to medical conditions, will continue to teach from the classroom to ensure continuity of learning for students. Children of essential workers and vulnerable children can continue to attend school. This is another very difficult decision, but it is the right one for Queensland while we continue to slow the spread of COVID-19. #coronavirusaustralia

This... will be jointly funded by the Queensland Government ($32 million) and the Federal Government ($30 million). Deputy Premier and Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Steven Miles said the State Government will also spend $6 million on detailed planning for Stage 2 which will involve a bigger upgrade and major expansion of the hospital. Redland Hospital has seen a 34 per cent growth in admissions and a 22 per cent increase in outpatient appointments said Kim Richards MP for the state seat of Redlands. 02.01.2022 Well this is a different twist on what we’ve previously known. Have you got your tickets yet?
01.01.2022 It’s the week the fat man comes to town, let’s keep an eye on each other & not wear a frown T'was a week before Christmas, And all through the town, People wore masks,... That covered their frown. The frown had begun Way back in the Spring, When a global pandemic Changed everything. They called it corona, But unlike the beer, It didn’t bring good times, It didn’t bring cheer. Airplanes were grounded, Travel was banned. Borders were closed Across air, sea and land. As the world entered lockdown To flatten the curve, The economy halted, And folks lost their nerve. From March to July We rode the first wave, People stayed home, They tried to behave. When summer emerged The lockdown was lifted. But away from caution, Many folks drifted. Now it’s December And cases are spiking, Wave two has arrived, Much to our disliking. It’s true that this year Has had sadness a plenty, We’ll never forget The year 2020. And just ‘round the corner - The holiday season, But why be merry? Is there even one reason? To decorate the house And put up the tree, Who will see it, No one but me. But outside my window The rain gently falls, And I think to myself, Let’s deck the halls! So, I gather the ribbon, The garland and bows, As I play those old carols, My happiness grows. Christmas is not cancelled And neither is hope. If we lean on each other, I know we can cope Keep it going! (Copy&Paste) See more
