25.01.2022 Patrick Baudouin - In total Patrick has about 13.5 hectares of vines to work with, scattered around not only Chaudefonds-sur-Layon and St-Aubin-de-Luigné, which is the next village upstream, but also around Rochefort-sur-Loire which lies a little to the north on the banks of the Louet, a distributary of the Loire. Most of the vineyards are planted on schist, this being the terroir that defines the Layon. They largely lie on the right bank of the river, which affords them a favourable south-facing aspect, although two of the plots in St-Aubin-de-Luigné lie on the left bank. The parcel in Rochefort-sur-Loire sits on the northern slopes, looking across to the vineyards of Savennières. . #loirevalleywines #loirevalley #frenchwines #cheninblanc #cabernetfranc #savennieres #savennières #anjoublanc

25.01.2022 Das Sakrileg!! The 2019 has just landed on the east coast and its time to party In contrast to the classic Australian Riesling, the juice is oxidatively handled, fermented wild in barrel, matured on unsulphured lees and may undergo partial malolactic One of the best this country has to offer . @laviolettawines . #lavioletta #greatsouthern #grapes #westernaustralia #wine #sak #riesling #australianriesling #greatsouthernwines

24.01.2022 2016 Crawford River Nektar Riesling . Last year, this wine took out the sweet wine category for James Halliday 2020. Its only made when the naturally occurring botrytis cinerea visits. This is not every year. Not made since 2010 & started in 1985 when it could be called Beerenauslese A passion of Johns & now Belindas too, who did a vintage in the Nahe with Emrich-Schonleber in 2005 where she learnt innumerable lessons about these precious grapes Part foot stomped and... left to macerate over night & the other part wholebunches which were all pressed gently together the following day. Cold settled and racked once. Then the very slow fermentation began until we reached the desired level of balance between sugar & alcohol. @crawford_river_wines . #handpicked #footstomped #nektar #riesling #jameshalliday #winecompanion #goldcap #riesling #rieslinglover #henty #victoria #victorianwine #victorianwineries #rieslingdownunder #australianriesling See more

24.01.2022 I'm delighted to be importing the wines from Weingut Prieler into Australia. Some of the best red wines coming out of Austria. The wines made from Blaufränkisch offer a high level of drinkability, layers of complexity and a vision of their region. The limestone soils, found in the Prieler family vineyards, also make Pinot Blanc a shining light. Here you find flowers, fruit and soil expression illuminated.

23.01.2022 SAVOIE Frédéric Giachino has been producing wine in his domain for more than 20 years, and utilising organic and biodynamic techniques for much of this time. Located in the Chartreuse Hills, the vines of Giachino grow along the limestone slopes of Mount Granier. The soil here is a result of an ancient tragedy. In 1248, a huge landslide sent 500 million square metres of rock crashing down onto the surrounding villages, completely destroying five of them. The soil today, ric...h in limestone and clay, is made up of that rock. Savoie has an average altitude of 1,500 metres, with 36 peaks reaching more than 3,500 metres. The climate can be unforgiving, and the landscape offers only limited space for viticulture. However, ancient glaciers managed to create large valleys with rocky outcrops as they retreated. These are pure refreshing, mountain wines that speak only of place. Jacquere, Altesse, Gamay, Mondeuse. . #savoie #savoiewine #giachino #gamay #mondeuse #jacquere #altesse See more

22.01.2022 Domaine Chapel: new vintages just a few weeks away @domainechapel . In January of 2018, Domaine Chapel began working 2 hectares of vines in the Beaujolais Cru, Chiroubles. The wine is an assemblage of two high altitude (average 400 meters), steeply-sloped parcels: Saint-Roch & Poullet. Each parcel comprises about 1 hectare of vines, which are both east-facing, and planted to high density, gobelet trained vines. The land is worked organically and by hand. The average vine a...ge of Saint-Roch is 55 years, and Poullet varies between 40 & 60 years old. The bedrock is granite and the soil is a blend of pink granite, sandstone and weathered rock fragments. . In 2018 Domaine Chapel also began working 1.2 hectares of Beaujolais Cru, Fleurie. The wine is from the single lieu-dit, Charbonnières, which sits at 460 meters in altitude. The parcel is planted to high density, free-standing, gobelet vines. The Charbonnières climat is formed as an amphitheater high up in the mountains of Beaujolais and bordered by the forest which forms a natural clos around the parcel. This is an east facing parcel with part of the vineyard facing north and the other side facing south. The land has been farmed organically for nearly 20 years and is worked and by hand. The vine age varies and the oldest vines are over 60 years old while the youngest were planted 35 years ago. Granite rock forms the bedrock and the soil is a mix of granitic sand, weathered rock fragments, and igneous rock. . Juliénas, this wine is from the single lieu-dit, Côte de Bessay, which sits at 400 meters in altitude on the northern border of the Cru, Saint-Amour. This steep, south-east facing parcel is planted to high density, free-standing, gobelet vines. In 2018, we harvested exclusively from the section of the parcel with the oldest vines aging more than 65-years old. Granite rock forms the bedrock and the soil is a mix of pink granite, magnmatic schist (pierres bleues), sandstone and weathered rock fragments. . #domainechapel #chapelbeaujolais #beaujolais #crubeaujolais #gamay See more

15.01.2022 NEW RELEASE (NSW, ACT & SA) 2018 The Story Wines Col Fondo Prosecco. An exciting new release from the talented Rory Lane at The Story Wines.... Sulphite-free, cloudy Fizz made from the traditional Glera grape the follow-up to the hugely popular first Prosecco. Somewhat similar to the French Pétillant Naturel, it finishes fermentation in the bottle and creates yeast sediment, which would be disgorged in Champagne, but Rory leave in the bottle giving it a cloudy appearance and some lovely texture and yeasty complexity. Col Fondo, baby! Mike Bennie from Wine Front loved it saying "fruits. A lick of cashew and Parisian almonds in there too. Simple, good drinking, charismatic fizzy wine. Id drink a pile of this." . #prosecco #glera #thestorywines #rorylane #supportvic #wine #victorianwine

14.01.2022 BURJA - Primoz Lavreni at his family winery in Slovenia . The Lavreni family history dates back to 1499 in this small village, and third generation to cultivate grapes in his region, Primoz Lavreni is the man currently in charge of this organic and bio-dynamically farmed estate. He left the family estate Sutor, in 2009 to start his own label, Burja. Burja is the name of the strong wind that blows through the Vipava valley, greatly influencing not only daily life, ...but absolutely all agriculture in the region. Him naming his estate after this local phenomenon is not by chance, his new estate was to focus on indigenous and local varieties, rather than the international varieties the government almost forces winemakers to plant. The Vipava Valley is an extension of Friuli into Slovenia. Its a place where the mountains meet the sea, creating an environment of extremes, thus, breeding wines that have a distinct and dynamic sense of place. Soil is varied, but most of them are planted on Flysch a sedimentary rock that has layers of silt and sandstone, deposited in a marine environment. This, with various other types of marl, help create the complexity Primoz is looking for. . @primozlavrencic . #burjawines #burja #slovenia #winestagram See more

12.01.2022 PATICK BOTTEX PRE-ARRIVAL Hitting your inbox today. If you want in, let me know The Bugey is one of the best kept secrets of France. A geographical crossroad between Savoie, the Jura, Burgundy, and the Rhône, this small region encompasses the mountainous eastern half of the Ain département. Situated between Lyon and Geneva, it is not considered a part of Savoie or the Jura, administratively or as a wine region. It really is its very own little enclave, home to steep calca...reous mountainsides butting up against the western edge of the Alps, and subject to alpine, continental, and mediterranean influences to climate. In La Cueille, one of seven high-altitude hamlets surrounding the historic medieval town of Poncin, Patrick and Catherine Bottexrecently joined by their son, Carlfarm the rocky limestone slopes above the Ain River. They have been working five hectares of land since 1991 and produce only a small quantity of their beautiful, intriguing sparkling wine. While a number of grape varieties are permitted in the Bugey, including Altesse, Chardonnay, and Mondeuse, the wines of Cerdon are dominated by Gamay. Chez Bottex, ten percent Poulsard, imported from the Jura just to the north, fills out the blend as a secondary cépage. They craft this irresistible low-alcohol rosé using the méthode ancestrale, a rare technique that predates the méthode champenoise. In the cellar, the grapes are pressed directly after harvest, and the must begins a natural fermentation in cuve. When roughly 50 grams of sugar remain, the tanks are cooled down to halt fermentation, and the wine is bottled under crown cap. A secondary fermentation begins spontaneously as the bottles are laid to rest for the winter, until the rising pressure causes fermentation to stop once again, having consumed roughly 20 additional grams of sugar. The bottles are then disgorged and filtered to avoid unwanted refermentations, and bottled under cork. The resulting wine is delightfully refreshing with bright fruit, crisp acidity, a beautiful deep pink hue, and a tantalizing touch of sweetness. . #bugeycerdon #methodancestrale #mountainwines #patrickbottex #patrickbottexlacueille #gamay #poulsard

11.01.2022 Prieuré Saint Christophe . Michel Grisard began work on what would become Domaine Prieuré Saint Christophe in 1978. Back then, it was an estate in ruins, and no small task to turn it around. He left his fathers vineyard in 1982 to concentrate on his new property, and declared that he wanted to turn Mondeuse into a great wine. This variety was not popular at the time, but has since become the leading red in Savoie, largely thanks to Michel. It is perhaps little wonder t...hat he is sometimes referred to as the Pope of Mondeuse. He owned six hectares of vines, which have an average age of 25. Along with the Mondeuse, Grisard also grows Altesse on the Savoie slopes, producing a wine that is fermented, stirred and aged in casks. The wines have excellent potential for bottle ageing. His estate spreads over the towns of Frétérive and Arbin, giving him different options when it comes to terroir. The soil in Frétérive is calcareous, while in Arbin it is of clay-limestone. Four hectares are utilised for the cultivation of Mondeuse and 1.4 hectares of Altesse. The Pope became one of the best known producers in Savoie, and his excellent wines are on the tables of some of the worlds finest restaurants. Michels last vintage was in 2014, and since then the vines have been managed by Clément Giachino, the son of Frédéric Giachino of Domaine Giachino. It was only a decade after Michel began growing vines that he discovered biodynamic production methods. . #prieuresaintchristophe #savoiewines #mondeuse #domainegiachino #france See more

11.01.2022 NEW RELEASE 2018 Skin Contact Chardonnay. 100% estate grown, biodynamic and organically grown fruit.... 50% of the Chardonnay was left on skins for 3 weeks before being pressed off and left in old barrels for two years. The other portion was held on skins for an astonishing 737 days prior to being blended with the first component. Zero additions, fining or filtration. Tiny SO2 addition just prior to bottling. One of the finest example Ive taste of skin contact Chardonnay in Australia - super pure, fresh with clean clear mineral character. It's a matrix of spice and fruits. Gingerbread, marzipan, white pepper, clove and turmeric. The fruit unravels with mango, papaya, orange zest and pink guava. Silky and fine on the palate, with only the finest tannins holding shape. Amazing length as always from this diligent producer. 09.01.2022 Domaine de la Cras by Marc Soyard - from Jura via Vosne-Romanée to Dijon . A few questions with the man himself... .... WHERE WERE YOU BORN AND RAISED? Im originally from the Jura, a neighboring viticultural region next to Burgundy. My parents arent originally from a winemaking background. During family meals, the wine often flowed and I listened at length to my grandfather talk about the wines he tasted. IF YOU COULD BRIEFLY DESCRIBE YOUR APPROACH IN THE VINEYARD WHAT WOULD IT BE? In the vines and in the cellar, I let things happen naturally, my philosophy is to intervene the least amount possible. I only intervene at moments where it is important to do so. On the whole, the vineyard is managed following organic and biodynamic practices (since 2016), but not certified. No synthetic products. The wines are vinified without added sulfites and undergo 80% of elevage without added sulfites. WHAT EXCITES YOU MOST ABOUT YOUR VINEYARDS? Im passionate about the vines. Each wine should be a reflection of its terroir and be unique; its for this reason that I chose to use no oenological products other than sulfites (homeopathic doses). Being in the middle of nature and far from the vines of the cote bourguignonne makes the domaine unique, and I think that its an advantage for me because it allows me to differentiate my wines from the other wines of the region. The proximity to a big city, like Dijon, is also unique. IF YOU COULD SAY ONE THING TO THE SOMMELIERS WHO ARE INTRODUCING PEOPLE TO YOUR WINES FOR THE FIRST TIME, WHAT WOULD IT BE? Purity, freshness, and elegance (I asked the question to a sommelier of a [Michelin] starred restaurant with whom I work). WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE TYPE OF MUSIC? I really like Latin and African music; I like the convivial side that this music imparts. IF YOU COULD HAVE ANY SUPERHERO POWER, WHAT WOULD YOU CHOOSE? Teleporting, so I can enjoy a glass in all four corners of the world during one weekend the dream. . #marcsoyard #domainedelacras #burgundy #wine #naturalwine

08.01.2022 Northern Rhône magic from Cave Julien Cécillon | Delighted to have these wines back in Australia!! . Cave Julien Cécillon was founded in 2011 and is the beloved project of winemakers Julien Cécillon and Nancy Kerschen. With vineyards in the appellations of Saint Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage in Frances Northern Rhone Valley, the estate is dedicated to producing elegant, terroir-driven wines. American Nancy Kerschen, and Julien Cécillon, a native of Tournon- sur-Rhône and n...ephew of Jean Louis Grippat, met through an enduring fascination with both wine and international travel. In 2011, having combined experiences working for various international wineries (Yves Cuilleron, Christophe Curtat, Fabrice Gripa, JC Cellars, Clos du Val, Saintsbury, Indevin and Saronsberg) the two decided to embark on their own winemaking endeavour. Cave Julien Cécillon is the product of that union. Respecting the unique environment of each appellation, the estate applies sustainable grape-growing techniques in the vineyard to achieve the best expression of terroir in every bottle. Based on their collective experiences, they blend modern techniques with old world traditions and growing methods to achieve well-structured, graceful, food-friendly wines. . #cecillonwines #cecillon #northernrhone See more

07.01.2022 NEW RELEASE - VINEYARD In 2000, we added a block of Riesling to our original plantings from the 1970’s. Although the vines are no longer so young, we still notice a significant stylistic difference between these vineyards and as such choose to bottle them separately. The vineyard lies at the alluvial edge of a volcanic lava flow. Its roots are in a complex, mineral-rich soil base. Gravelly, friable, basalt loam overlays permeable clay which in turn lies above a limestone ba...se created by an ancient, risen seabed. WINERY The fruit is carefully hand harvested and taken to the winery in pristine condition. For the ‘Young Vines’ we whole bunch press some fruit in addition to crushing some, Belinda believes this adds a more fruit forward element on the nose and front palate. The juice goes straight into tank where it is settled for four days, it is then racked to remove it from gross lees prior to fermentation. Fermentation starts soon after and care is taken to keep it cool, around 14 C. After fermentation is complete the wine is held on fine lees for a minimum of 8 weeks which Belinda notes is very important for the textural element of the wine. A hallmark of our Riesling. GLASS Delicious orange citrus notes and a stone-like mineral element are a terrific introduction here. These qualities proceed to the palate, together with bright, red apple and a powdery talc note. The palate is crisp and clean, while maintaining the rounded quality of white stone fruit, coupled with chalky texture and a clean, bright line of acidity. A mouth-watering, lingering finish completes the drinkability factor here. - @crawford_river_wines #crawfordriver #crawfordriveryoungvinesriesling #crawfordriverriesling #crawfordriverwines
