15.01.2022 Happy memory. At the fire in Blackheath on Sunday and we had to drop into the fire control centre at Meadlow Bath after our shift when a car pulled up and a l...ittle boy (maybe 3 or 4 years old) got out with his mum, she asked if her son could give me a hug as all he wanted to do was hug a firefighter. He ran up and gave me the biggest hug and thanked me for saving the "all the houses" . His mum tells me that since the fires started all he has talked about is being a firefighter. After a couple of pictures in the truck he left with a wave and a huge smile for my crew. This little fella has no idea how much this means to us when this happens, gestures like this make the hours spent away from our own families, the smoke, the heat and even the soggy sandwiches a little easier to take and reminds me of what a privilege it is to be able to help such a wonderful community, this is the reason I choose to be a volunteer firefighter.

Less competition 2. Less choice 3. Significant increases in the cost of training 4. The close of around 20 RTO's ... 04.01.2022 Co-regulation is not the answer. Although I understand REINSW is a non-profit organisation, allowing co-regulation by any organisation with a commercial interest in outcomes it regulates would only result in a dictatorship being created. What if one of the franchises proposed the same model? Would that also be ok? Because this is essentially what we are talking about. Even though there is always room for improvement, The majority of the industry supports the status quo with F...air Trading implementing the reforms that were agreed upon by industry, including the REINSW and continuing to regulate agency conduct. What exactly has changed so dramatically in the last 6 weeks that this war with Fair Trading needed to be started? I would be interested to know if REINSW is so well qualified to regulate the industry when was the last time they took disciplinary action against one of their own members? Or what would happen if a future board member had a disagreement with a competitor, would they get a fair go or just be thrown out of the industry? Allowing any regulator to have a commercial interest in the industry they regulate will only result in corruption, no matter how pure their motives may have been to start with.
