23.01.2022 A small share for a BIG cause! Principal of REAL Ally Comley and I attended REISA’s SOS lunch at the ADELAIDE Convention Centre, on Friday arvo. It was great to mix with our real estate fraternity as we gathered to raise money (and awareness) for victims of domestic violence. This is a cause extremely close to my heart and we had the absolute pleasure of hearing and later personally speaking with the likes of Jelena Dokic and Rosie Batty (pictured with us below) both surviv...ors of very real and horrific forms of domestic violence. The fact is that DV can happen to both men women, but the shocking stats are that 1 in every 3 women globally experience violence in some form. I am the proud mother of three girls, and know this to be true having experienced first hand one of my daughters journeys. I have mentioned this because Fridays message was strong and clear. We all need to speak out, stand up and never be ashamed to do so. We need to create a space for this to be ok to discuss and for the victims to be free of judgement and blame. It’s just not ok and starts with our language at home. I will never say I ‘throw like a girl’ or deplete women’s ability in any way again. We ALL have our strengths and weaknesses and it’s time to celebrate them and embrace them respectfully. It’s not ok to feel uncomfortable whether in the workplace or in your own home and no one should treat you with any less respect than they would want to be treated themselves. I want to be part of the change that calls out this behaviour and sees everyone for all their beauty and inner strength- no ‘dream world’, just a reality where we all bloom in our potential. I am blessed to work at REAL, a close knit real estate company who embrace real family values and respect. We stand together to be part of the change that Rosie Batty is fighting for. It may take generations to finally change a culture where some choose to turn a blind eye, keep out of things, too scared to interfere .... but the change must start somewhere. That’s today. Sue

09.01.2022 REAL life heartwarming story.. from Cindy Beecken, from our Property Management Dept One of our Adelaide Apartments was up for rent and I was lucky to meet this lovely family that captured my interest. They instantly fell in love with the property and I had a feeling they would be perfect tenants. We sat at the table and started chatting about their life and how they ended up in Adelaide, I learned that Hooman and Sanaz recently migrated from Iran leaving life as they knew ...it behind. For me it was a very humbling, emotional experience to hear how this Father and husband left his job as a civil engineer to give his wife and daughter a new life providing freedom to live how they chose and not how a government decided they as women should live. In their search for a new home here in Adelaide, they had found great difficulty in being accepted as tenants due to lack of references and being essentially unemployed. But I recognised this family only needed an opportunity to prove themselves and I shared this with our landlord who thankfully was also happy to give them a chance. We have not had any regrets since. I pop in to visit them from time to time and can see the sheer happiness in their eyes for the life they have made here. They show me such appreciation and always insist I sit and share a cup of tea with them while we chat about the little things we all take for granted. I still tear up over this experience because it’s not every day you are blessed to meet such amazingly courageous & beautiful people. I feel privileged to have been able to give them a REAL warm welcome and play a small part in helping them start their new life here in Australia.
