06.01.2022 Self Betrayal is the deepest wound of all .... but where does it start from? You didn't wake up one day and say "Ooh I'll put others first at my own detrement, what a great idea!" No! You got hurt, over and over and over again and never understood why. You didn't know how to stop them from hurting you. You didn't know how to protect yourself from the pain in a healthy way, in a healthy way.... All you could do was try that strategy to stop them, or this strategy or another.... until you found one that worked more often than not. And most times the strategy of people pleasing, giving offers what they want, giving in our giving up is the quickest strategy to get results. But at what cost? How has putting others before yourself impacted you? What's been the emotional toll? Are you physically or mentally impacted by the betrayal also? We take on strategies to navigate our way through challenges. We change ourselves to accommodate others. But what we forget is that it's only meant to be a strategy, not a lifestyle choice. We start out so young taking on these "what can I do to please you so you stop hurting, and stop hurting me?" The more we grew up, our emotional intelligence also matures but we forget to strip ourselves free from the strategies that worked when we were children. Instead we wear the strategies like a mask, and over time, very quickly we loose memory of what's real and not real and magician ourselves thinking wec are the mask we wear, we are the survival strategies we implement. We don't start stripping ourselves bear of our masks until the pain is far too great.... until we have finally had one too many people walk all over us, or shut us down one time too many. Or someone continually doesn't consider you because you've never put yourself in the equation either.
