24.01.2022 This year we will be participating in the Woolworths Earn & Learn program again. Through this program we will be able to get new educational resources for our Family Day Care and all we need you to do is shop for your groceries at Woolworths. From Wednesday 1st May to Tuesday 25th June or while stock lasts, we are collecting Woolworths Earn & Learn Stickers. You will get one Woolworths Earn & Learn Sticker for every $10 spent (excluding liquor, tobacco and gift cards). Plac...e the Woolworths Earn & Learn Sticker onto a Woolworths Earn & Learn Sticker Sheet and when its complete, the Sticker Sheet can be dropped into the Collection Box here at Real Explorers Family Day Care. We will also have collection boxes at Alexander Heights, Kingsway and Warwick Shopping Centres. (Loose stickers welcome also as I have spare sticker sheets here.) Please ask family and friends to collect the stickers from Woolworths too and bring them in. At the end of the promotion, well be able to get some great new equipment. If youd like to know more visit woolworths.com.au/earnandlearn Please feel free to share this post with family and friends and start collecting! The children benefit greatly from the resources we can earn from the stickers but it takes thousands of stickers, we only have a few families in care compared to schools that have thousands of families. The more stickers we have the more amazing resources we will be able to purchase! Every sticker counts. THANKYOU FOR HELPING OUR SMALL BUSINESS. See more

24.01.2022 Happy Educators Day to all my fellow educators!

23.01.2022 This is not to elicit fear or guilt but its important for families to understand how this new system works. What a sad day for the Early Childhood Industry! There are not many winners here, so I beg you to dig a little deeper with the latest FREE CHILDCARE funding. It translates to something like this Essential workers continue to work and receive your full income - child care workers please continue to work and care for everyones children but accept a 50% pay cut!... Early childhood always has been an undervalued industry, this will see thousands of passionate educators walk away because they are financially better off not working. This system might work for big profit based centres who can cut their staff hours and receive funding for children that arent there, but what about our gorgeous small centres or our family day care educators. What about those operating for less than 12 months who are now expected to work for FREE! huge love and gratitude to you all - this world needs you, hopefully our government realised that. Please dont tell educators to be grateful they still have a job! They expose their families to risk every single day and work long hours, all for a slap in the face! Yes this works wonderful for big centres, this is a blessing to families that are keeping their enrolments but not sending their children. Always ask, who does this disadvantage? If you dont believe my word, then head to Family Day Care Australia and read the comments from hundreds of disadvantaged workers.

22.01.2022 We will remember them, Lest We Forget

22.01.2022 So excited as I was notified today that I have been nominated as Educator of the year. I know I may not win but just being nominated by my wonderful parents is enough recognition for me..... a huge thank you to the parent who nominated me.

22.01.2022 Definitely common sense.

19.01.2022 Its amazing to watch childrens imagination develop with limited toys.

19.01.2022 Children and adults need the resilience/ full emotional cup to cope with life. We need to ensure that we keep filling it up too.

18.01.2022 Please sign and share this petition to get the federal government to re-consider the educators portion of the free childcare package.

17.01.2022 A very important message to use the correct wording with your children.

16.01.2022 What an experience we have had over the last couple of weeks. The children were really excited to watch our chicken hatching program come to life. They watched the chicks hatch out of their eggs and then as they slowly became bigger the chicks showed some natural behaviours in the brooder. The children also saw the chicks begin to loose their down feathers as they were replaced by their pin feathers. The children were a little sad to say goodbye to the chickens when they left for the last time, before the chicks were picked up to go back to the farm.

16.01.2022 Just let them play its when the magic happens!

14.01.2022 Wow! I’m excited to share that I have been nominated for Educator of the year 2021. A huge thank you to who nominated me!

13.01.2022 We are now a registered SunSmart family day care, so please remember to put sunscreen on your child/ren each morning.

13.01.2022 An important reminder about being present with your children, not just an observer.

12.01.2022 Happy Australia Day!

12.01.2022 Another reason to encourage play through activities as well as free play.

11.01.2022 A good read if you have a child who likes to sit in the W-sitting position, as it can affect their development.

11.01.2022 To all our Dads, Grandfathers and special people too - I would like to wish you all a wonderful day.

10.01.2022 This can also be used for children of all ages.

09.01.2022 Something to think about in your childs early years.

08.01.2022 Something to think about ...

07.01.2022 Nominations are now open.

07.01.2022 This morning, we attended our local ANZAC Dawn service, where we placed a posie of poppies that the children made together. I was also approached by a few people who loved the posie and said what very lucky children you care for". I really enjoy doing our part to see the ANZAC tradition continue and being able to share it with the children. Lest We Forget

05.01.2022 FYI .... Hopefully this is not going to effect any FDC families, but if you were at Puma Alexander Heights on Friday late afternoon (23/4/2021) or Lakeside Joondalup on Thursday evening (22/4/2021) you will need to have a COVID test and self isolate for 14 days .

03.01.2022 Happy Early Childhood Educators Day to all fellow educators.

01.01.2022 Ive been working on regulating my reaction so I can respond to her, but I am not sure what to actually do when shes melting. My first thought after reading ...this dm was, YES! Get it, sister. Regulating our adult selves in order to respond with intention is often the hardest part. There are four main steps to emotion coaching for emotion processing. First, allow them to feel. In this phase we want to hold boundaries like not allowing them to hurt themselves or anyone else, but we dont want to stop them from expressing for our comfort. When hearing a child cry is too hard for us, we will often rush to make it stop. Allowing sounds way easier than it is because meltdowns rarely happen at a convenient time & they almost always trigger a reaction from our childhood. Next, we connect with them by validating their emotion or experience WITHOUT trying to fix it or put a silver lining on it. This phase is crucial for being able to move through emotion processing in collaboration with them. They want to feel seen & you get to let them know you get it. Now is not the time to decide whether or not they SHOULD feel what theyre feeling they already are. Then, we move onto coping. During the coping phase we are regulating the central nervous system, starting to process the adrenaline or cortisol and moving from the amygdala (feelings brains) to the prefrontal cortex (rational thinking brain). We cannot talk about how to solve the problem until we have regained access to the prefrontal cortex, aka, until theyre calm. Dont rush this phase. They may need time. They may not be ready to cope yet. Let them know where youll be if they want support finding their calm. Lastly, once theyre calm, we navigate conflict resolving or problem solving. We can chat about how to solve the problem or maybe how else to communicate that need. The key is that we arent here until everyone is calm crying, whining, yelling, etc means we arent ready for this phase yet. Which steps do you want more support on? Would it be helpful to have specific language to pull from in each phase?

01.01.2022 This is the same for children who attend day care.
