25.01.2022 Welcome to our 'FRIDAY FORTNIGHTLY FEATURE'. Wayne Glenn and I will soon be running some workshops for Save The Children in the Northern Territory. One of these will be in a community we visited numerous times 3-4yrs ago... Wadeye. Last week, I was asked to send some links of the workshops we ran in Wadeye for Red Dust and I enjoyed rediscovering this weeks feature video. Over the years, we've been asked to workshop many different types of themes through song and video, but t...his one came outta left field! Scabies .... How do you write a song about that? We at Realtone, love a challenge and with the help of great Wadeye band 'The Emu Sisters' and the students at Wadeye OLSH 'Darripi Tarronga' (which means healthy skin in the local murrinh patha language) was created. Our approach for this, was to have fun with the subject matter, and in the process destigmatize it a little and make a visit to the local heath clinic look like a very easy thing to do. Check out the sequence in the video where an audience of young boys go crazy with applause at the girls answering questions on a game show about skin health!!....when filming that scene, we told them that they were cheering for Buddy Franklin kicking a goal! It was definitely a fun project that one and a good example of the school, health clinic and community all working together for a common cause. Enjoy.... https://vimeo.com/reddust/healthyskinwadeye

20.01.2022 Very proud of the two community videos that we produced that were finalists in the recent National Indigenous Music Awards Community clip section. One of them was the song Picka Family produced with the awesome community at Tiwi College. Wayne Glenn and Stevo Lane are pretty excited about heading back there in a couple of weeks... https://youtu.be/belnOlNg35I Tiwi College Red Dust

17.01.2022 This weeks 'FRIDAY FORTNIGHTLY FEATURE' is fresh off the press! Wayne Glenn and I have spent the majority of the last couple of months in the Northern Territory and have been fortunate enough to work with some amazing people and communities. Last fortnight feature was from Wadeye, where we started. We then traveled to Wugularr (also known as Beswick near Barunga) and I can't wait to feature some of the song/vids from there in the coming weeks. From there we travelled back to... Alice Springs and out to the Tilmouth Wells Roadhouse to work with the Senior Girls from Yirara College for Red Dust Role Models. We are Connected is the song we wrote together and its a beauty! It also features some of the ladies from the Tangentyere Council who were with the girls for the week. The Tangentyere ladies ran an amazing session mapping out the way language groups are connected throughout the country and was the inspiration for this song. It was premiered at Yirara College today! As always... enjoy! https://youtu.be/uS-ND189UHw

13.01.2022 It's been an amazing and busy year for Realtone. With Christmas around the corner, its a good time to reflect on the many projects we've been fortunate enough to be part of. Recently, through Save the Children Australia and the Thamarrurr Development Corporation we spent a couple of weeks in Wadeye/Port Keats in the NT. We caught up with our good friends William, Michelle & Mark Parmbuk. They asked us to record a funeral song that was written for 2 young men in the community... who passed away when caught out by the tides attempting to swim off a nearby island. William found the two young men and had a vision for the film clip we shot. We are deeply humbled to be a part of this important project and thank William, Michelle, Mark and the families of the young men for privilege of helping them tell the story of these young men. 12.01.2022 It's 'FRIDAY FORTNIGHTLY FEATURE' again and today we feature a classic 'western desert reggae' track from 2013. The songwriting/recording/video workshops that we run through Red Dust Role Models are mostly conducted in schools. Whenever we can, we invite local musicians to be a part of the workshops, so the songs that are written sound like they come from the community. The kids also get a buzz out of their older siblings/cousins/family members being a part of the project. Ba...ck in 2013, Francis, Ambrose, Travis, John and Aaron played on a track that we wrote with the kids at Kintore School. To thank them, we offered to record one of their original songs. Time is always tight on these trips, but we managed to find a 2 hour slot (in the school library) to record the song and video! Whilst we hurriedly threw mics and leads around (note the pop filter holding the mic on the tom!) the guys swapped instruments until they found the lineup you see on the clip. By the way, Wayne filmed the band footage in one take there, somehow moving around the spaghetti like tangle of leads whilst I engineered. Vocals and lead were then quickly overdubbed. I love this song and its recording ... and so do others judging by the mere 35748 views its had!! Enjoy the Kintore Desert Band! https://youtu.be/n122EqF8vI0

10.01.2022 Congratulations to Brianne and Rayden and the Peppi School mob for picking up the MPV (Most Valuable Player award) at This years VAMPtv Vampies. The MPV award recognizes performance in front of the camera and these 2 stood out in 2018. It was a pleasure working with you mob again and we look forward to the next Red Dust trip in 2019!

09.01.2022 We've been out at Ntaria (Hermannsburg) for the last 2 weeks at Tjuwanpa Outstation for CDP Activites Tjuwanpa As well as running audio and video training, we've managed to record 11 songs, 8 video clips and even drawn up plans for a proposed recording studio. Here's a few snaps from the week!

07.01.2022 It's 'FRIDAY FORTNIGHTLY FEATURE' catch up week and here is video No2. Recently Wayne Glenn and I were in Kintore (for Red Dust).... just 1 week after Midnight Oil played an intimate show there. Kintore's a good 6 hour drive from Alice towards the Western Australian border (depending on the road condition of course). Midnight Oil generously left some band equipment for the community ... all great sturdy Fender gear (not Squires) that will cope with the harsh conditions. The... community was still buzzing from the Midnight Oil gig and equally so about the support act Running Water Band.... it was the first time in years that all members had been back in Kintore together. The other thing that the community were excited about was that Running Water Band had some new songs ... the lure of the Midnight Oil show had got them feeling creative and they had written a bunch of great new songs and were keen to record them. We arrived amongst all this excitement, with our recording gear and set up in a vacant house. Today's track is one of 3 songs/videos we recorded and filmed over our 4 days in Kintore. It's called 'One And Only' and features a little cameo from yours truly! enjoy... https://youtu.be/qfCQvcYhN7o Jonathan Lindsay-Tjapaltjarri Hermawan Richie Mcwaters Sarah Hamilton Graham Ashton See more

06.01.2022 It's 'FRIDAY FORTNIGHTLY FEATURE' time again! The last three weeks have been extremely busy for us ... so much that we somehow missed the last feature. Firstly, we were in the community of Wadeye, 500 kms west of Darwin, home for a couple of days and then down to Wagaluur, East of Katherine. These trips, were the first for Save The Children Northern Territory. Our brief has been to engage the community through music, supporting the work of their Intensive Family Support Serv...ice. We had 8 days on the ground in each community and managed to record and produce a video for 7 songs and produce 2 video documentaries for 2 different Save The Children services. Two of those songs were written with the community during that time as well. Today we feature a song that celebrates the Yek Nangu Tribe and their country, which lies along the coast west of Wadeye. The band is called the Nangu Red Sunset Band and two of its members, brothers Mark and Cyril are from this country. Enjoy! https://youtu.be/NlLlSeLU0d4

04.01.2022 In October this year, we were invited by the Nauiyu Community through Red Dust to write and record a song/video clip with the whole community. They wanted to form a band to do this and include not only the local schools (St Francis Xavier and Wooliana) but all people of all ages including the Elders. Here's the song we all wrote and recorded and filmed together!... https://youtu.be/7uLieOh-cYk

04.01.2022 So... we started the year with the noble plan of posting 'FRIDAY FORTNIGHTLY FEATURE' of the work we are fortunate enough to do in remote communities. We did manage to keep it up until the end of August but then dropped the ball for all manner of reasons, most notably being really really busy! So here we are again! Tonight's music video comes from Ntaria (Hermannsburg) in Western Aranda Country where our good friends Ted Lawrence and Emilie Goegan are living and working. Th...e song is called 'One Man' and is by local band HIGHWAY 6. The song talks about a man leaving his family and community and the big hole he leaves behind. The film clip was directed by guitarist Cliffy and bassist Rex. It is one of 5 tunes and 4 videos that Wayne and I recorded with the talented musicians of Ntaria during our week visit last month. Enjoy... https://youtu.be/sHDtxltG3qY #FridayFortnightlyFeature

04.01.2022 oops... am a bit late with this fortnight's 'FRIDAY FORTNIGHTLY FEATURE'. This time we go back to 2011, when I was lucky enough to have been employed (through the generosity of Sony Foundation) to work with young people in some of the communities affected by the Black Saturday Bush fires. 'Blue Skies And Beautiful People' was written with the year 8 students of Broadford Secondary College and became sort of unofficial anthem for the school. It was even honored in a speech by the then local member in parliament. My favorite part?... the cameo by the then school principal Mr Alsop. Enjoy https://youtu.be/JurkDwHGZ8g

01.01.2022 It's not often I think about posting photos of the amazing places and people I'm lucky enough to work from and with. Most of the times I'm so remote that there ...is no phone signal or reliable internet. For the last week I've been with some of the Western Aranda people recording their songs and making video clips. We've managed 5 songs and clips this week! Here's a few snaps recording and filming on location. It's been a crazy good year. I have been fortunate enough to work in some amazing places with some truly awesome people in Kintore, Yuendumu, Tiwi Islands, Wadeye, Peppimenarti, Wugalar, Alice Springs, Ross River, Nauiyu. If you want to keep up with Wayne Glenn and my work slip over to our Realtone and give us a cheeky like ... I promise to update it a little more regularly! thanks Emilie Goegan and Ted Lawrence for making this trip happen! Love your work!
