When the government lockdown and the situation recovers we will reopen the school. During this time, all the fees will be postponed and deferred till when we reopen again. I will be in contact with you again, hopfully soon. In the mean time please make sure to train the stance at least 10min each day.... Mike See more
22.01.2022 Keys to success at DFWC (3/8): 3. Aptitude Aptitude refers to a persons natural tendency to be good at learning something. For example, someone may have an aptitude for music or mathematics. In Wing Chun we value the aptitude for learning itself. You must be willing to learn how to learn. ... Do not expect to obtain a high level of skill by mindlessly following drills and instructions. Most important concepts are grasped through feeling not verbal articulation. If you are unable to do something that someone else can, endeavour to figure out why. Set goals and ask questions, explore and experiment to make steps towards having your questions answered. If you cant break through someones defence the only way you will ever figure out how to do so is by actually trying. You must also be capable of being taught. Do not be resistive to following simple instructions. Some things are done a certain way for a reason. If foundations and basics are not mastered, any further attempt at progression will be fruitless.

16.01.2022 Keys to success at DFWC (6/8): 6. Humility It is actually a very good thing to be competitive. Being competitive constitutes a drive to learn, excel, and be better. However you must also be a gracious loser. Never think that you know everything and that you have nothing to gain from listening to others. Accept that you are lacking in some way when you are defeated and realise that you always have more to learn. ... You are certainly not entitled to knowledge and never think you are unnecessarily restricted when knowledge is withheld. There is always something significant to work on if your eyes are clear; you must prove your worth. You must earn the respect of others. If you are spiteful or overly timid, people will not want to train with you.

15.01.2022 Keys to success at DFWC (1/8): There are core attributes considered indispensable when it comes to being a strong and capable student at DFWC. We find that students who encounter major difficulties in learning Wing Chun are lacking in these qualities. The mindset and training at DFWC is aimed at forging these attributes as they are not only extremely useful in martial arts but also in life. 1. Determination... There is no point to even beginning Wing Chun training if you have shallow determination. The reality is that martial arts is aimed at exploring the full spectrum of combat. In combat, defeat can mean brutal consequences for you and those that depend on you. You must have every intention to win and act upon your principles and values. The same applies with the struggles and adversities that everyone will encounter in life. You have to be willing to put in your best effort from the start. To be determined to win you have to be determined to train to win.
13.01.2022 Keys to success at DFWC (8/8): 8. Ferocity It is normal for people to run away from their fears. To find someone willing to turn around and face their fears is incredibly rare. But for someone to take a step towards fear is a true act of courage. ... Bravery and spirit must come first. To be ferocious you must be intensely aggressive without being overbearing. Dispel your fears and insecurities so that you may crash like thunder when the time is right. Students often say that they cant perform due to mental blockages. All of them are capable of phasing out these blockages with a tough mind. A decision to want to do so is all it takes. Even if there will be residual feelings of guilt or regret after, so be it. If you have to take one step back, make sure you are able to take two steps forward in doing so. Do not be consumed by aggression, but be ready to blaze the full extent of your combat power when it counts. The greatest lesson at DFWC is in understanding that Wing Chun is only properly applied when executed with utmost ferocity. In life there will be tough decisions, and they must be made with absolute conviction. A great martial artist has nothing to prove, but also everything to prove.

06.01.2022 Keys to success at DFWC (5/8): 5. Clarity Isolation training is conducted because there is a need to train very specific energies. When training to perform something very specific you must not allow any external influence on the targeted isolation. You have to have the clarity of vision to know what your goal is and to see it through to the end. ... Whats important is the problem at present. Do not let your mind meander into solving superfluous problems which have no relevance to the task at hand. Forging strong skills in Wing Chun requires adequate mental focus on individual tasks. Siu Lim Tao is practiced for this very reason. For example, it is crucial to focus on developing strong stance before trying to attempt torsion.

05.01.2022 Keys to success at DFWC (2/8): 2. Discipline Laziness is never an excuse for not doing anything. You must train when necessary and not let your skills deteriorate. You must set goals every single day, even if they are minimal, and aim to achieve those goals. It is not hard to spare 10 minutes per day and practice Siu Lim Tao. ... Do not be frivolous when practicing; otherwise nothing valuable will ever be gained. You must be consistent in your determination. A strong stance can only be gained through hard work, not chance enlightenment or foolhardy ploys, and everything in Wing Chun relies on a strong stance.
04.01.2022 Kung Fu is more than just fighting.
04.01.2022 Keys to success at DFWC (4/8): 4. Adaptability Adaptability means willingness to change. Everyone will have bad habits whether they were pre-existing or picked up along the way. Bad-habits are only hindrances to learning and the only reason they persist is by choice. ... People tend to hold on to habits because not doing so makes them feel weak and uncomfortable. You must be willing to accept that weakness and refrain from enacting your bad-habits for the sake of learning. Some people will have certain skills that they are more comfortable executing and tend to heavily rely on them. Because combat is never static by nature, the application of your Wing Chun must be relative to the situation. Refrain from persistent struggle when it is irrelevant. When your path is obstructed by a wall, you will make no progress by ignoring that the wall exists. The wall will never change, so youre the one that has to change.
03.01.2022 The Chaos of Combat: a beginners perspective Last summer I apprehensively joined the family for a day out at the beach. As an occasional beachgoer whod much prefer to lay back, read a book and sip on a cold beverage, I didnt expect to do all that much. I just expected to chill out, read, and once in a while reluctantly offer to jump in the rock pool to placate the more enthusiastic beachgoers in the group. But as most planned outings typically go, things didnt exactly go ...Continue reading
01.01.2022 Keys to success at DFWC (7/8): 7. Toughness Physical conditioning is good, but you have to condition your mind over anything else. In this sense, toughness is much more valued than fitness. ... Make no mistake; the importance of fitness is not to be undermined. However, learning Wing Chun requires you to know that you are incapable and to force yourself through pain to make the impossible possible. Knowing what you are capable of and constantly dabbling within the confines of your own comfort zone will never amount to anything. Youre going to be sweating, bleeding, and risking pain and injury. You will fight. You are learning to rain violence upon people; and in doing so, take the risk of being subjected to violence yourself. You have to have a tough mind, an unbreakable, unbeatable mind. Constantly seek to push your limits and never ever give up, no matter how much it hurts.
