24.01.2022 Never cooked a cake in my life and most certainly dont know where to begin to decorate one, but somehow, I ended up designing packaging for an innovative new range of cake decorating gels. The client, Deco Magic, or more specifically Karen Coubrough taught me a thing or two especially about cake decorating nozzles. Bloody great products!... JE

14.01.2022 Its not every day that one gets to meet a great Western Australian icon and is then afforded the opportunity to design a book, which unveils their extraordinary life. Written by Victora McKay, the book chronicles the mainly ups and the odd down of a shrewd, yet softly spoken businessman and benevolent philanthropist, who at 90 years of age, still drives himself to the office each day, has a twinkle in his eye and a spring in his step. The magnitude of the mans success (he...s on BRWs 200 Rich List) and generosity to the broader community sunk in over the six moths it took to design and edit the publication. Part of the joy of working on this commission was the opportunity to work with Rob Simeon once again, an exceptional photographer. My thanks also go out to Ben Brennan, of Scott Print, who became integral in ensuring the books quality at the print stage was never compromised.

12.01.2022 FROM THE ARCHIVE - I needed an image of a half decent project to begin my talk to the designers at AGDA 'show and tell' session last Thursday night and found the Wool Directory, which I'd designed almost 25 years ago for the Australian Wool Corporation. As I recall, nobody was using corrugated e-flute back then and I had to place a special order with AMCOR just to have it produced. The client did have some budget constraints - I couldn't hire any models, so I used our daughter, Lesley, then some two and half years old, who's now 27. Never did ask her to sign a talent release form! JE

11.01.2022 Thoroughly looking forward to judging the entries for the AGDA Student Awards at the end of the month. I wont be alone, but will be judging remotely via an app designed for tablets with some well heeled creatives from across Australia and NZ: Claire Connelly, Papercut Studio, ACT Jorge Castillo, Canvas Group, NSW Shadia Ohanessian, Shadia Design, SA... Andrew Timbs, Red Jelly, TAS Andrew Ashton, Work Art Life Studios, VIC Janelle Rodrigues, Creature, NZ Will be an enjoyable + inspiring way to enjoy the weekend and discover what's brewing in the heads of the latest generation of graphic designers. 02.01.2022 After a hiatus of some two years from the broader graphic design community, I've been cajoled by Dan Agostino of the Brand Agency to showcase my 25 year + career at an AGDA 'show and tell' this evening, at the Repeat Offender Café & Gallery in Subiaco. I'm one of three designers doing the dance (Janice Law, The Brand Agency - 5 years; Daniel McKeating, Lost & Found - 15 years) and the third cab off the rack 'cause I'm the oldest (the younger ones need to get home early for bed!).
